- A Cuban sandwich is a combination of roasted pork, ham, and cheese that originated among the Cuban workers in the cigar factories in Key West, Florida as early as 1831. I tried to keep the flavors authentic & cooked it up on the Lone Star Grillz lonestargrillz... offset vertical Smoker.

One of the best sandwiches ever!!! I have the bread baking now, pork almost done and made some southern potato/egg salad to top it off!!! Great one Greg!!!
I love Cuban sandwiches. Some friends and I went to an authentic Cuban Café and a friend asked if he could get a Cuban sandwich without mustard, he was told "NO!".
Period
I worked at the Miami Airport for a few years and learned to love Cuban food. Now I’m craving a real, genuine Cuban sandwich.
Just seeing this two years later. Nice sandwich. I remember my first Cuban in Miami. 2010. It was wonderful, as I’m sure yours is. Cheers.
Born and raised in Miami between Cuban sandwiches and all, this looks like an amazing Cuban sandwich!!!
Just came across your channel . The cubano and the Reuben sandwhiches are the best sandwiches ever made. I just ate the Reuben and I have a cubano in the fridge ready to reheat as I'm typing this. God bless you brother, be well.
Looks like a good sandwich. Most of the shops here in Tampa use a combination of mustard and mayo. Also the bakeries that make Cuban bread use a knife cut on top of the loaf and insert a palmetto leaf before baking. It adds a slight touch of flavor to the crust and after baking they pull it out but occasionally a bit of the leaf stays in the bread.
Nothing better than a good el Cubano! Rock On Greg!
Excellent video and fantastic looking cubano!
Looks pretty legit. Thanks for keeping it authentic. The beer should have been something from Cigar City!
Love a tour of your yard, and collection of bbq!
Great sandwich and Cali Creamin’ is the nectar of the Gods!
Amazing Greg! Noting like any Cuban sandwich I've had. Lot's of love went into that cook bro.
Thank you brother!
@@BallisticBBQ My pleasure I hope you and the family are doing well.

Glad you enjoyed it!
Great looking Cuban sandwich Greg! I made one a few months back and it was so good. I had a Cuban sandwich in Miami several years back and I'd fly back just to have it again. Great job!👍🏼

Looove cubanos!
I grew up eating Cuban sandwiches and I gotta your sandwich looks amazing. 🔥🔥🔥♨️
I live in Tampa (home of the cuban), I've never seen one that good.
Go to Wright's. They've won best of the bay for Cubans quite a few times. Also, Big Ray's on Interbay has a bangin' Cuban.
Please don't lie to him , that was a poor take on a Cuban
One time for Tampa Cuban sandwiches and the SUPER BOWL 2021
That Sandwich is looking great and I will give it a try for sure - like it 👍👍👍
Yummy for my tummy
Awesome video once again Greg. Will be trying this on my Pit Barrel!!

Awesome video!!

Good stuff, this will be my cook this weekend!
Delicious Looking Cuban sandwich Greg ... Packed full of flavor and crispy bread ... Great job Cheers
I've been to Cuba last year and have to say your version looks way better than what I had in Cuba!! : ) Well done!!! Must be tasty!
Mostly because the Cuban is a Florida invention.
@@bandwagon240 cool :=)
It was invented by Cubans, with left over Cuban Christmas dinner. Regarding the difference between Greg's sandwich, and the sandwich you ate in Cuba. It's because Cuba is a communist country, were everything is scarce, and probably the sandwich filling had skimpy portions, lack of condiments, and marinade.
Greg that cuban sandwich looks fantastic! Wow I have never tried anything like that before.
Love your videos, Greg!
Tampa Native approved! Although we do add salami, it's a local thing :)
Tampa in here
Love a good Cuban!
Outstanding! That’s all I can say. I would eat that whole sammich, Brother!
Nice Fricken sandwich Greg !!! Way to go Bro 👍👍
I was worried right up until the end you didn't have a plancha or flat griddle tray that could press the sandwich (because of course it's a grilled cheese sandwich on steroids) Then you blew my mind again with using that grill attachment on the Lone Star. That was epic
Looks fantastic as always brother
Thank you brother! I've been wanting to do this video for a while now!
Looks good !!
I´m a big fan of your cooking, Greg!! this is awesome
That sandwich looks Amazing 👍🏼👍🏼
I could totally tear up that whole thing right now. And drink that beer too 😎
Hey man, really appreciate your videos, but it's tough when I'm fasting! Keep it up man!
@@JoesCaribbeanVanLife why would you fast if you don't want to?
Great cook Greg, love me some Cuban sandwiches!
Great cook Greg thank you for sharing 👍
One of my favorite sandwiches. I did similar, but didn't cook in marinade. I like your method and will update.
Nice sammie! And that’s awesome Mother Earth is out in Cali. The Brewery is 20 miles from my house!
OMG, that looks killer!
I'm sadly behind the times in that I've never had a Cuban Sandwich, but my son sent pictures of some he was enjoying when he was in Miami recently. Yours looks like it could come out of the best joints in Little Havana :)
This looks delicious! I'm definitely going to have to throw that on the PBC and give it a try. Thanks for another great video!
Good looking sandwich Greg!!
Love it. Nice you did something different for you. Keep it going!
Never heard about Cuban sandwich before, will cook it tomorrow, look so good. :)
Looks good brotha. I like a lot of your recipes. Keep it up!!
Good stuff my brother! This is a real killer amigo!
Greg, great video, love me a good Cubano. Have you ever used your vacuum sealer to assist with the marinade process? Works great.
Looks great. Planning on making Cuban sandwiches this weekend. At what temp and hours did you cook the pork shoulder? I’m smoking a 3.5lb pork shoulder on my pellet grill.
Awsome sammich. As much as I love swiss cheese is there any other type of cheese you would suggest?
We Cubans marinate the pork for 2-3 days, in the refrigerator. Also, we bake the ham, and not use sliced ham, which is a bit too salty. It was invented from the Christmas dinner leftovers.
wow I want that lone star planche press
Nice looking Cuban Sandwich Greg! and I should know as Tampa is the home of the Cuban Sandwich, not Miami like some think..LOL They were made for the Cigar factory workers back when Tampa was the Cigar Factory capital of the world..
Sorry before Miami or Tampa ,we habe cuban sandwich and medianoche in PR in 1970
@@axelagosto5196 1970? Try Tampa in 1900 or so - "When The cigar industry in Florida shifted to Tampa in the mid-1880s, when the immigrant community of Ybor City was founded by cigar manufacturer Vicente Martinez-Ybor. Tens of thousands of Cuban, Spanish, and Italian workers moved to the area over following decades, jumpstarting the growth of Tampa from a village to a bustling city. The first recorded mentions of a distinct Cuban sandwich survive in descriptions of workers' cafés in Ybor City and nearby West Tampa from around 1900, leading other historians to theorize that the sandwich as now constituted first appeared there.[12][13][14][15][16] A travel article published by the Mason City Globe Gazette in 1934 said that Tampa's cooking was "much more distinctive than elsewhere in the state" and lists Cuban sandwiches (along with Cuban bread) among the city's "signature foods".[17] Researcher Andrew Huse states that "the old 'mixtos' coalesced into something more distinct - the Cuban sandwiches we know and love - an original Tampa creation."[4]"
As a 30 year resident of Tampa, I'd say the only thing missing is Genoa Salami. Give it a whirl the next time around, all of the revered local joints always include it as standard equipment.
Great looking Sandwich Greg. The brined pork has to infuse some nice flavors. Meatlover's special.
You are really making me want to pick up one of those LSGs
Hey Greg, would you get a more authentic mojo flavor in the pork if you marinated overnight? Would it be better or to over powering? I really want to try this recipe. Any tips would be appreciated.
We Cubans marinate the pork for 2 to 3 days in therefrigerator. We also use baked ham, not sliced ham, which is a bit too salty.
You should do a show off all your cool grill's video next.
I enjoyed this cook but I sure wish you'd bring back pouring the beer of the cook into a glass. I always enjoyed that part.
I will start doing that again. A heads up... My next video that posts wasn't poured. I'll bring back the glass!
Hey Greg, awesome vid as always. BTW, can you not use fork on glassware? Dental ambient makes me cringe.
Noted. Will not do this anymore. Thanks for letting me know.
@@BallisticBBQ wow, didn't think this would get noticed. You're one of the most considerate TH-camrs out there. Cheers.
*There isn't nothing like a Cuban sandwich prepared in Miami, you'res made my mouth water!*
We are going to be making this tomorrow - so could you clarify for me the timing. I understand it goes in at 250 degrees for an hour to an hour and a half uncovered, but is it another three hours after you cover it or three hours total cook?? Definitely don't want to overcook. Thanks (PS: we have just under a 5# pork.)
Hey man another absolutely fantastic video- thanks! Quick question- how did you cook the pork to fall-off-the-bone at 250F for only 3 hours? Was it because you braised and covered it? When I smoke butts on my shitty generic kettle I keep it at 250 but it takes like 7 hours, wrapped in foil for the last 2.
Would love to see you cook with some wild game Greg. I'm sure you would have some killer ideas that my shallow mind hasn't come up with yet.
If you can’t find bitter orange, you can also just use lemon or lime juice. Some people prefer using that instead of the bitter orange. Also, I know you said you got the bread from a Cuban restaurant, but that didn’t look like Cuban bread. The crust is too dark and Cuban bread also doesn’t have that score pattern on the top. Cuban bread is usually much lighter in color, and the loafs are usually bigger. Restaurants in Miami cut the loafs down to make the sandwiches. On average you can get about three sandwiches from a single loaf of bread. Supermarkets do sell smaller sandwich sized loafs, but restaurants don’t really use them.
Also, this sandwich has two different builds. If you live in the Miami area, the build is pork, ham, Swiss cheese, pickle and yellow mustard. If you live in the Tampa area, they also add salami to it. Some places also add mayo, but I think that’s sacrilegious.
If you replace the Cuban bread with an egg bread, you wind up with the Cuban sandwich’s cousin the medianoche or midnight sandwich. The sweeter bread gives it a completely different flavor profile. You should try it.
Looks great, did you use a thermometer to check that the pork was cooked to your temperature?
Not necessary when its coming off the bone.
Hi Greg, just a quick note from my side: I didn't get any notificatioms from YT for your last three videos (including the Chicago smashed). Never had any probs before so I guess it's a YT thing.
Anyway, as always, great videos!
Thorsten Frank I get that a lot. I hear the same frustrations coming from creators and viewers... It’s a TH-cam thing I guess. Make sure that the “bell” is still clicked on. I think this glitch has been in-clicking viewers.
@@BallisticBBQ Hi, I´m a long time subscriber, and viewer, and never had any problems before - the reason I noticed it is because you reguarly post videos and was a bit surprised I didn´t get any notifications for two weeks which made me suspicous.
I´d really would like to know what´s going on at TH-cam.
damn that pork looks good
Finally!!
Greg at 11 pm: I can't believe I ate the whole thing....
*downs the Alka Seltzer*
I love Portos sandwich if yall from los angels area go to Glendale best Cuban sandwich
I would hate to be your neighbor. Haha 😆 but, I love your videos. Makes me wish I made more money to get quite a few of your heat givers(grills).
Dang this looks amazing! I’m really going to have to try this. Where ever did you find those square disposable roasting pan’s? Can you put a link?
In any grocery store, Ralphs, Safeway, Albertsons, Pavilions..I think that the east coast name for Ralph's is Kroger.
All that to make a sandwich lol....this guy makes me so jealous lol
