Not only does he have perfect pitch, but his vocabulary is very articulate for a 5-year old. This kid is a genius. He's going to grow up to be a great man.

Romanieo did an excellent job identifying the notes for a five year old. Even if I can sing, I am not good at identifying the notes in the piano. I am actually very poor at it. Your little boy is just a genius with a brilliant mind.

It's so neat how she makes the quiz progressively difficult, so that the kid's perfect pitch is growing even throughout this short session.

Absolutely AMAZING!!! I hear Oprah screaming, "Amazing!". Now I'm just waiting to hear her say, "& you get a car, & you get a car & you're all getting A Brand New Car!". OMG'oodness, that's how I feel watching this kid. You guys are great!

Only people without perfect pitch say pianos are out of tune, lol. It sounded right to me.

See I wish I would have been put in a better school system than the ones I grew up in not to mention moving around a lot definitely limited my capacity because they were always learning something different or they were behind schedule and I'd already learned it.

Haha! If you haven't seen it watch the video of him naming the elements by their number of neutrons and electrons when he was 2 and 1/2. Marbles and grapes on the table he's really cute. Be careful with his little brain. If he gets about as smart as a spacing guild navigator from Dune he might accidently tessaract himself to the dark side of the moon ;)

I teach music and I cannot tell a note by hearing it. I have good relative pitch due to years of listening, music theory, and reading music.
For instance, in the key of C, the notes of the dominant chord (G, B, D) just FEEL like they are crying out to resolve. (That's what dominant chords do!) They feel unstable, filled with tension. The notes of the subdominant chord (F, A, C) feel like a new chapter in a book. Those notes feel kinda refreshing, like taking a new path in the woods. The notes in the C chord feel restful, like 'home'.
Of course, this is how music evolved. It's not surprising I feel the notes in this way.
I do NOT have anything like perfect pitch. If you play a note, I can only guess at it. i know someone with perfect pitch and he does not think at all - he just knows. I guess it's like seeing a color. Most people don't have to think about what color it is. They just know red is red. They don't have to think, "well, it's kinda close to yellow, but a bit darker, and it's more interesting than white, etc. lol
I wish I had perfect pitch, but as long as there's a piano nearby, I can figure out just about anything in music. Theory really helps. I teach kids theory and they enjoy learning about the cycle of fifths, or that major is happy and minor is sad. I love the lyric in the Cole Porter song that says, "There's no love song finer, but how strange the change from major to minor, Everytime we say goodbye." I can't imagine a musician not loving that line!
