Hi Pete. Bill Brasso here. Drummer with Frank in Oblivion Sun and with him on Zeitgeist. Just letting you know Frank was born in 1954, like Stanley and myself. Frank was 68 years old. He fought like a grizzly against the cancer that was first isolated in a kidney, but metastasized to other areas. We loved him dearly, and miss him. Thanks for this beautiful tribute. And please keep playing our music! Best, Bill

So sorry about your dad. He was a great composer, great keyboardist, and I think his sax playing is better than he gets credit for.

I had the pleasure of seeing Happy the Man open to two standing ovations for Renaissance in DC in 1976. Possibly the most intense show I have ever seen - I am certain to this day that Frank Wyat levitated from his chair the whole concert alternating between keyboards and woodwinds. Amazing!

SO SO SAD!!! I had no idea this happened. I grew up in DC so I was privy to having seen them at Cellar Door and become an original huge fan one of the GREATEST and frustratingly underappreciate & underexposed of all the best of Prog, Happy the Man! They were PURE PROG, not as POP or Americanized Mainstream as the other US prog inspired acts! I truly loved Franks contribution and song writing. He was a key member of the HTM Trifecta! In fact, his 2020 SOLO Album is AMAZINGLY beautiful ! Part of my youth has been lost upon this news!

Happy the Man was one of the great unknown and unappreciated American progressive rock bands of the '70's. I'd recommend any of their albums for anyone interested in truly challenging music.

Damn Frank Wyatt and Jeff Beck in one week totally heartbreaking. The self titled album is one of my "stuck on a desert island". Such great underappreciated music. Rock in peace.

Thanks, Pete, for your ongoing recognition of musicians leave us on the planet without them. Sad to hear but your shows always seem to capture the right tone and memory of them. R.I.P. Frank Wyatt. And thanks again, Pete.

Thanks Pete. First thing I've found on the internet to confirm this. Amazing composer. I'm so sad ;( The HTM reunion at NEARfest 2000 is what drew me there (my first prog "festival") and I went to all NEARfests since - On a few occasions I was able to talk and hang out with Frank HtM & Oblivion Sun (at both at NF and Prog Day). May he RIP.

Pete: Dave Hughes here, bassist with Frank in Oblivion Sun. Stanley, Bill, and former Oblivion Sun and Happy The Man musicians miss him terribly. I was in the band from 2009 until the completion of Zeitgeist. When I first joined the band I was having trouble playing a particularly difficult line in one of OS's songs he had written. I mumbled to myself at a rehearsal, "That'll never fly." Frank overheard me and offered, "Yeah, but it's got wings." Ponder that for a minute.
Frank was a monstrous talent. He could sit down at the piano and immediately, spontaneously compose incredible music. He had scores of unused ideas in his head at the time of his death. He could have produced multiple (continuing) albums with all his content.
Frank never presented a new song as "crystalized" to the band. He wanted each member to interpret his demos, and create parts and twists and turns that Frank never envisioned. He was eminently unselfish in this regard.
Frank was also an electrical and mechanical genius. He built his home and virtually everything within. He was a master woodworker as well.
Frank was a perfectionist who never imposed upon or judged his peers in their efforts. He did his thing, and all looked up to him. He NEVER boasted.
Frank battled his cancer for ten years, with dignity, and never complained. He just kept on living. He cussed it occasionally, but that didn't interrupt fulfilling his visions.
Frank Wyatt was perhaps the most intelligent human being I have ever encountered. He was a big teddy bear who loved giving hugs to his buddies. I miss those hugs. RIP, Franky.

For me, there are only two bands that have come close to the musical genious that we can hear in Genesis, Yes, Kansas and Camel, and one of them is Happy the Man.
    Rest in peace, Frank Wyatt.

As a prog and jazz fan, I loved Happy the Man, and Frank's invaluable contributions to them, so much. As complex as their music could be, I often found it to be good for relaxing and reflecting after a hard day-- and this is definitely an unusually hard day, with the losses of Frank Wyatt and Jeff Beck. RIP to both of them!

Everyone remembers Kansas and Happy the Man to a lesser extent as far as American progressive bands go, but no one seems to remember the great Fireballet. Fireballet's first album is a very high-quality prog album.
