Jeff Beck never got the glory of a Clapton, Hendrix, or Page, but I'll take the totality of his career over any of those dudes. Beck was such an innovator and he never feared changing his style or if it alienated his audience. Beck was like, "Come along if you want, but even if you don't, I'm gonna do it anyway." Rest in Power, J.B.

Completely agree with that statement across-the-board. He was completely under himself and didn’t give a shit if you loved him or not, he was just a God. I’m sick to my stomach with sadness today…

Jeff was my #1 Guitar Hero of all time followed by Robin Trower at #2. I'd be hard pressed to name who the #3 slot would go to. Too many greats to choose from.

I think he got glory even more than those mentioned...

    • @Gregorypeckory
      @Gregorypeckory ปีที่แล้ว +2

Glory is overrated but Jimi isn't. Lumping Jimi in with Clapton and Page is just a silly tradition, not based on anything real. Beck was infinitely greater than Clapton or Page of course, but Jimi was the godfather of modern electric guitar. There was never any greater contrast between one artist's body of work and everybody else's that came before then there was with Jimi.
Jimi opened up more directions for modern guitar for all of us than anyone.
Beck was awesome and unique, and it sucks that he died, but it's Jimi that revolutionized the color pallet of all electric guitar music from then on; Jeff would have told you that if you told him he was better than Jimi.

I got to meet Jeff Beck in 2015, my girlfriend at the time had a connection to Fender and got us backstage passes. We were much younger than the rest of the people backstage (we were mid-20s at the time) and Jeff came and sat down and had a beer with us, asking us questions the entire time and telling stories about his first Fender. Such a surreal experience, RIP Jeff

I'm near tears over this loss too, Pete. Jeff Beck always seemed so youthful to me, partially because he never stopped artistically growing and exploring, even into his last albums. He never went on artistic autopilot, and for that and other reasons, he was, and is, truly a model for all musicians. It's so hard for me to fathom that he has died, but I'm grateful that we had him as long as we did, and that he gave us so much!

He simply could not be matched by anyone, and you could always instantly recognize his playing when appeared as a guest on so many great records other than his own. I’m so glad I got to see him live in 2018, truly electrifying experience and easily the best show I’ve ever been to. It was an absolute privilege. This hits me very hard . 1st concert I saw was The YARDBIRDS featuring J. Beck and their new 2nd guitarist Jimmy Page , 1966. I saw him many more times. Unique. A sad day for the music world. We will always have his music.

My dad introduced me to Jeff Beck way early on in my journey of musical exploration, he’s my dads favorite player. We listened to Blow By Blow so much and it’s one of my very favorite albums to this day. That record helped me begin to understand arrangement, composition, and odd-time. A masterpiece.
Somewhere between 10-15 years ago, my parents and I went to a Detroit Tigers game on Fathers Day. As the National Anthem was about to begin, the PA announced that Jeff Beck would be performing the song. We couldn’t believe it and it was certainly done in complete Jeff Beck style. I never saw Jeff in concert, but I’ll always be grateful for that memory.
Finally.. yesterday, I saw posts that Jeff had passed moments before playing a gig. I’ve played drums for 15 years but yesterday was my first paid ukulele gig. Finding out about Jeff’s passing in that moment gave me intense inspiration to play my fretted instrument to the best of my ability. It was a sad but poetic, full-circle moment in my musical life.
Thanks, Pete, for the comprehensive breakdown of Mr. Beck’s career. Truly one of the great and innovative artists of the last 100 years. He is and will be missed.

Jeff Beck came into our class at school late in the year. We were all 13 and he was 14 years old. He immediately got respect, because he was a year older. His Mother asked the Head master to please take him for the year. He was looking for a guitar to play, and his mum wanted him to do piano as she was a trained concert pianist. One day in the Music Room he came in as we were waiting for the Music Teacher, with a load of bits of wood and wires and went straight to the back of the room and went and sat on the floor of the store cupboard. The boys he knew best asked him what he was doing, and he told them he was trying to make a guitar. I thought to myself that he would find it impossible to make a anything, let alone a guitar with that lot!!. However just before he came out, a few blues notes came from that floor. We were all astonished! He almost made some magic! After we left school for the last time, we would all look after him and his music. Cynthia Allen-McLaglen

My younger sister sent me the news. I was devastated.
There were many times I would sit with my Jeff Beck signature stratocaster and play songs like, Never Alone, Where Were You., Two Rivers. My sister, who loves music was always amazed with how vocal Jeff's song were.
May your tone sound great in heaven Jeff. You have some great players to jam with up there.

saw him in Quebec City few years ago. there was a rather small stage and I was front row. suddenly he appears with that cream strat and I was totally starstruck. at one point he was right in front of me and I kept thinking '' I don't believe it - this rock legend is right in front of me '' and I kept looking at him playing that guitar very upclose. what a moment it was. RIP Jeff Beck

Well said, Pete. I will always cherish the memories of seeing him live about 10 years ago at The Moore Theater in Seattle. Just phenomenal. I was just spinning Blow By Blow a couple of days ago. Every bit as good now as it ever was, maybe better. Really bummed about his passing. RIP, Jeff.

Thank you for your video in homage to the great Jeff Beck. The shock of Beck's sudden death is too much current for the wire, so to speak. So, R.I.P., Jeff Beck, and thank you for adding your special melody line to my life.

Morning Pete, agree with everything you said. Jeff was a unique one of a kind guitar player. I had the opportunity to see him a couple times and each time I was blown away. He was truly a master. Wired is easily one of my top 5 albums of all time. I can't say enough good things about it. It never gets old. He will be missed.

Haven't stopped listening to him since I heard the tragic news...an icon and I was lucky enough to have worked with him twice at Parkgatestudios( proprietor) in East Sussex. Setting up the mics in the main room whilst Jeff, Pino Palladino and Stewart Copeland were jamming was a privileged moment and is etched in my memory. My favourite guitarist of all time, his improvisation taking the guitar to places you never expected with such emotive tones that tore into your soul, growling like a tiger, heavy like a tank, shocking like an AK47, delicate and sweet like a dove and crying like a baby. Never one for small talk, straight out of the car, into the studio and pick up the guitar...can't think of many musicians that can evoke such feelings. In bits this morning, writing whilst listening. A piece of my personal jigsaw has gone missing...a true great has gone and will be sorely missed.

Hi Pete - A total shock, just cant believe it and absolutely gutted. This guy was one of the best. There are few guitar players who own there own sound, and Jeff was one of those. I remember when Jimi passed, I was so upset - this feels exactly the same. RIP Jeff

    Heard last night at 10.45pm.
I remember hearing about Jimi’s passing on some September afternoon in ‘70. A similar numb reaction followed.
Jeff was responsible for probably the greatest electric guitar playing I’ve ever come across.
    RIP.
