The ghosts of Painters Mill. What a place to see a concert. I was probably there. What us 80's rockers would do to go back in time and see Crack the Sky on a Saturday night at the mill. Thank you to whomever posted this.
Never made it to Painters Mill..i was just barely old enough to get into HammerJacks before it closed..Saw Tesla one night..Vince Neil on his first solo tour another night. Wish i could seen these guys..sooooo underrated!
I first learned about Crack the Sky in 1980 in Ocean City MD. A summer on the beach, working at The back of the Rack rock club and listening to CTS. ICE baby ICE
Tremendous fun. I remember when this aired, I recorded it on tape from the radio. So strange to see this band without Ritkowski and Carey and Vince DePaul look like kids!
I grew up in Waynesboro. My best friend lived across the street from Jimmy Chalfant's parent's house. I'd ride my bike to his house every day and I'd hear Kix in the garage practicing, EVERY day. Like 1976-ish.
@@if66was99 My gf liked Jimmy ... so we kidnapper 2 of them one night LOL I mean we actually hid in the band truck!! Nothing crazy went on ... we went to her apt and actually sat around and ... ok we just sat around and talked all night.
Matty Taylor I saw them last year in ocean city md. Im 16 and I fucking love CTS! Actually I saw them twice last year and plan to see them in april in baltimore!
I came late to the CTS party too. Discovered them in the late 80's early 90's or so. Finally saw them at Camden Yards in 2003. Great band! Tight as F, even then. All the changes and jumps and stops and starts in their songs... they NEVER missed a beat.
That was festival seating (standing) with maybe 300-400 people there. I wiggled, finagled, pushed myself right up to the very front row. Right beside the stage left speaker cabinet. I probably lost 10% of the hearing in my right ear that night. Small price to pay for R'n'R! :-p
He was worried about shootings in the 80s his head must be exploding in todays world!!! These guys are an incredible band and have always been ahead other their time and seriously over looked. Glad I have lived in the Baltimore area to know these guys music!!!
I used to see them & bought a few of their albums when I was in high school in the mid - late 70's. Growing up in Phila, we'd all cross the Tacony-Palmyra bridge to go to the giant bars set up in old warehouses that lined the main road leading to the bridge, since the drinking age was 18 in NJ but 21 in PA. Crack the Sky was probably the best band who played those "clubs". Most of the other bands were lame Kiss / Aerosmith cover bands. By the time of this 1982 show Cheeze Rock like Boston, Foreigner, Cheap Trick, Van Halen had taken over the airwaves, & it sounds Painfully like they're trying to sound & look like what was popular at the time. No wonder I lost interest in them. I don't recognize any of the songs . . . at the beginning at least . . .
Man..thanks for the words..takes me back! I grew up in the 80's as a kid an teenager..Cecil County,Maryland..its in the middle between two major cities; 45 mins from Philly,an 45 mins from Baltimore...i see these old clips on u tube an man,its REAL blood, sweat,an tears ya know? First show was Kiss/Ted Nugent in '88 at Cap Center in D.C..been to 100 major concerts since..Love it!
@@dwade6322 I graduated in 1980. Been to probably close to 100 concerts too, mostly at the old Cap Center. Best was probably Jeff Beck and SRV. Seen Ted 3 times BTW. Twice solo and once with Damn Yankees.
Was at that show with my best friend Tony. Shortly after we left for boot camp, I went Navy & Tony went Air Force. Truly our last carefree days.
I attended all these concerts at painters mill. RIP John Tracey!
I WAS THERE , Peace, cheers, puff puff , from Pasadena,Md
Was at particly all their concerts at painters mills
I recorded that on my new $500 VCR 🤣 years ago I lent it to Bobby Hurd,he never gave it back to me .🤔🤯🤣😎

I saw these guys back in Shreveport, LA. Back in like 1983, great band, Hot Razors stuck in my mind to this day.
Tremendous fun. I remember when this aired, I recorded it on tape from the radio.
So strange to see this band without Ritkowski and Carey and Vince DePaul look like kids!
I was there! Such fantastic times and music❤🎶
Bobby hurd was a beast! Especially with Carrie Ziegler next to him! Bring back Carrie Z
Palumbo is from West Virginia, yet he has a Baltimore accent. That's awesome!
That is cool. Y'know I grew up in Bmore and moved away in 1980.... and I still have the Bmore accent also. Weird huh.
"HEY HUN!" LOL..B-more accents are great! I live in Maryland, near Pa an Del state lines.
@@dwade6322 HON!! LOL
No way, that's a Western PA/ Ohio Valley accent for sure. I grew up in Weirton.
Right down der in Dundalk hun.
I just got turned on to this band literally today. Holy shit where have I been the past 40 years to have missed this?
right there with ya, brother!
John Waters through Spotify?
cmon john, pure Maryland brilliance...
Same. I can't believe i've never heard this.
John Waters That is awesome you found CTS. They are one of the best bands ever! Enjoy!
Loved Crack the Sky and 98 Rocked!
Should've been much bigger than other bands out there! Go Maryland! Kix etc.!!!!
I grew up in Waynesboro. My best friend lived across the street from Jimmy Chalfant's parent's house. I'd ride my bike to his house every day and I'd hear Kix in the garage practicing, EVERY day. Like 1976-ish.
Well... I never really "grew up"... but that's another story. :-p

Ditto for the Iron City Houserockers and the Michael Stanley Band.
These guys where at the top of their game back then
A great time to grow up in Baltimore!!! Crack the Sky!!!
Matty Taylor I saw them last year in ocean city md. Im 16 and I fucking love CTS! Actually I saw them twice last year and plan to see them in april in baltimore!
Never saw a show at Painter’s Mill! No car, no friends with cars, and flat dead broke. Always regretted that.
I'm just hearing this band for the first time. I'm probably not the only one that thinks they sound a lot like Be Bop Deluxe. Great stuff musically.
Ziegler made the show ripping on the bass!
Crack the Sky was fantastic last night at Club 66.
I came late to the CTS party too. Discovered them in the late 80's early 90's or so. Finally saw them at Camden Yards in 2003. Great band! Tight as F, even then. All the changes and jumps and stops and starts in their songs... they NEVER missed a beat.

I'm one of the 98 Rock contest winners...blue t-shirt and sunglasses over on the left. Fun night!
Man, that recording engineer is seriously "baked!"
Yea...
I see it too...
Memories at painters mill
Cruel Shoes!!?!😉😎
Wonder how many of those kids bought a gun when they grew up?
i was there baby...yeah!!
All I can think about is no Rick.
98 ROCKS! WIYY ! WOO !
DAMN! Fan-fucking-tastic!
Hot Razors in my Heart!
Nice mix of concert, interview and behind the scenes video
This Line up was highest energy and ROCKNESS version of CTS , for me anyway, my homies, JT , Bobby Hird, Carey & Vinnie
Fucking killer! Every time I watch this it gets better!
I'm here buddy. B'more forever!
He was worried about shootings in the 80s his head must be exploding in todays world!!!

"When I grow up I'm gonna buy a gun". Kids these days don't even wait to grow up . . .
98 ROCK!
2k views where is everyone?
Court Beall oh , sorry. I was listening to a Duke Jupiter reel.
24:57 OH ROGER!!
That is one of the _oddest_ rock TV things I have ever seen.
I can't believe WBAL (channel 2) put this on the air! 98 Rock for sure, WBAL not so much.
Crack the Sky without Witowski is like Pink Floyd without Gilmour.
Agreed! That is a cover band at best.
Palumbo, Witkowski, D'Amico, Griffiths and McRae WERE Crack the Sky!
@@billhughes8237 Joe Macre
@showlogicprod I actually really like the album without John .
Exactly this ain't Crack the Sky...
I’m a crack head !!!!!
Terrible sound quality but that was AMAZING
Bobby Hurd is all you have to say.
Hird
What studio is this? Where did crack the sky record in those days?
Im not sure but im sure it was some studio in Maryland they recorded albums at..prob Maryland institute for music or one of those studios.
This was Painter's Mill and I think they used Sheffield studio??
Is that a Korean flag on the karate gi he has on?
Palumbo is the only one still in the band?
Palumbo (and Cary Ziegler) IS the band.
Roger Pace on horn passed away ... best ever!! RIP

no.....Dave Demarco is the current bassist. this is Carey Ziegler.
Just saying as a crack the Skye fan as a little buckaroo
Johnny P you are in your twilight years! If you want to put on some good shows bring back Ziggler!
