Seeing them hug it out choked me up. I bet there was butting-of-heads during the project, because that's inevitable, but it definitely makes everyone happy to see things somewhat smoothed over.

Bless poor Pete. Anxiety is no joke but I'm glad he's been on to say Hi and Bye. Really, really good for you too Leo in keeping quiet about Pete's need to escape the camera in the face of all the hassle people have been giving you all these years. I'm sure you'd have liked to have been able to say something but not at the expense of betraying a person's trust and privacy. You all have my highest admiration, and for context I mostly think people are dickheads.
What's funny to me is in my opinion, the reconstruction of Tally Ho is the least of Leo's accomplishments since the 1st episode was posted. He's brought new people to an industry struggling to find skilled workers, formed new relationships between others to further their great projects, and inspired who knows how many people watching at home to pursue boat building as hobby or profession. All of that is invaluable.
Yes, indeed. Talented craftsmen like them will never be out of a job. Here’s hoping that younger generations are taking note and realizing that a college degree is many times only worth the paper that it is written on.
Hey Leo! What a treat it’s been watching along this incredible project! I got to meet you last summer at your open house - that really seared the Tally Ho into my mind and helped me understand the magnitude of your accomplishment. Be proud 😀. Keep us posted on the Fastnet race - seeing that in person would be a real experience !
Thankyou for your words, Raul. You and Darleen made the start of Tally Ho's rebuild possible - wonderful. And I hope Pancho finds a good home. To all the folks who worked on Tally Ho, I thank you all.
Whatever transpires, Leo Goolden has made a name for himself as one in a thousand. The project would have defeated many, but he always came through with fortitude, resilience, patience, and forbearing to keep many threads together and meet the challenges with true British grit. Anyone who has ever watched any episode will wish him fair winds and happy sailing.
You’re a class act, Leo, in addition to being a skilled boat builder. I suspect I’m not the only one who’s benefited from your example of the power of community and relationship. Best of luck in the next stages of your journey.
Anyone who watched the first few episodes was probably face palming like me thinking you gotta be kidding - that’s a pile of firewood in the shape of a boat! This ain’t gonna last. Well Leo I’d take my hat off to you except I’ve already eaten it! What a mission. What an outcome. I don’t think even you appreciate yet what you guys accomplished. Fair winds my friend.
Raul and Darlene. Special in every way a human should be. Like a sunset, a picture or video doesn’t do justice. We need to experience people like this in life.
This was my favorite TH-cam series ever, It was nice to see all of the old faces one more time. My only gripe was that I also wanted to see Pancho again. She might not have done much work on the boat, but she always added a tough of color and comedy in her many appearances. I miss that bird.
Thanks for giving us beautiful closure of Tally Ho's yesterdays. I've not missed a single episode since you brought her up from Oregon. Now I'm looking forward to watching all her tomorrows.
This is where it really sinks in that Tally-Ho is let loose. Having watched the project from the beginning, seeing all the wonderfull people that have left their mark. I must express, that I have the utmost respect for Leo who has stayed sharp and has endured through the years. All the best from me here in Germany, looking forward to T-H´s future adventures.
It was good to see Pete again. I had wondered where he had gone. I'm very happy to see that he has been well and thriving. He sure seems like a helluva good fella. Heck, they all seem like really good people, remarkable people with remarkable skill-sets and a remarkably different way of looking at, dealing with, and living life.
So nice to see you reconnect with everyone and really a treat to see Pete! I’m glad he’s taking care of himself even if it meant an abrupt exit. Feeling such affection for the entire crew. Well done. ❤️🎶❣️
feels surreal as a viewer who found you when the episodes were numbered in the mid 20's, which, it now occurs to me, was more than a handful of years ago. man , time flies.
Hey Leo - I'm a 70+ Brit who doesn't do man hugs but - Gee Whiz ( I'll allow myself an Americanism) - this video has even brought out emotion in me! And don't get me wrong (I'm not noted for my political correctness or even basic nodding to social norms!) - I look at the crew who've worked on Tally Ho, I am my father's son and I know he would've said "Jesus wept look at this gang of misfits!" However; I'm also sooooo aware of the maxim that book covers aren't always that revealing. I've watched this channel since the earliest days and have been steadily more and more AMAZED - I've attempted good joinery, I helped my dad on boat building but we are made to look very workaday by you guys! Utterly amazing and gives me faith in the world - some things are worth doing.
Leo, you are a genius. The way you edit your videos, the planning of the 'story', the wonderfully tight community you are part of, ...the works! Well done. (I have watched from about episode 10 and look so much forward to every second saturday, here in Nysna lagoon in South Africa.
As Mr Churchill once said under slightly different circumstances. 'This is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is perhaps the end of the beginning'
Ah, you finally did it Leo . . . I’ve been waiting for that last video departing from Port Townsend, with Tally Ho sailing off into the sunset. Great video as usual, great interviews with many of those who assisted in the rebuild. All genuine talented people who also participated in some commercials which was a real ‘hoot’ as they were not exactly professional actors but added a certain amount of talent and hilarity from those involved. I’ve loved all your videos throughout the years of re-building as well as the educational aspect they provided. At 91yrs of age, I am an ‘armchair sailor’ & have been for a few years. I’m hoping and praying you will take us along on your voyage to England, and possibly the Fastnet Race. That would be simply awesome. Thanks again Leo for all the videos, I shall cherish them & re-visit them occasionally.
Bittersweet to close out that chapter of your life. I suspect that you will look back on those days with that amazing community you created as the best days of your life. I've been a Patreon supporter since the days when you listed every one of us in the credits and it has been a pleasure to feel like I contributed to something so worthy as the Tally Ho. This departure video is a nice way for we supporters to bid farewell to our imaginary internet friends in the Tally Ho community. Now I have to get back to work and actually finish my own boat.
I have found out that adding comments helps with the algorithm. All hail the Mighty Algo. Let the comments begin: Yes! Accordions! My favorite instrument & wrongly maligned here in the colonies (I blame weird Al). & let me say that your musical choices over the years of this channel have been impeccable. It was great seeing everyone again. I did watch Pete's video on the fishing boat job. Very interesting comparing the work done on a working vessel to that of Tally Ho. I cannot wait to see the videos that the future will bring & it doesn't seem that long now that she's in the water since you started. You have done an incredible job, thanks for bringing us along on the ride. Lastly, I really enjoy seeing the views & 'likes' tally roll up as I sit & type this. It was at about 34k when I started the video & is now over 40K. I wish you great success in the coming years, & please know as long as you keep making videos, I will keep watching them (now over 41k). Have a great festive period & watch out for those cresting stern waves!
I have followed Leo and his project for a few years, and he strikes me as wonderfully sane, reasonable and simultaneously driven and inspiringly crazy. To manage that project with all the logistics and people involved is so impressive. And all the brilliant people he got involved! Good luck sailing Tally Ho!
Heartfelt beautiful episode Leo. What a mensch you are. The universal gratitude in this footage was so gracious, so beautiful. Great videography as well especially the tightly cropped long lens seascapes. And that wide closing shot of Tally Ho, Ooph, just sublime.
I used to run a schooner in the 1970s named ''NINA''. Built in 1928 and won the race from NYC to Santander, then went on to win the Fastnet in the same year. ''NINA'' now lies at the bottom of the Tasman Sea. She disappeared in a horrendous storm. When I sailed her on Long Island Sound NY, I would get all sorts of people putter over an stroke her caprail as they took a trip down memory lane. I am sure ''TALLY HO'' will receive similar tributes when she reaches the UK. Well done on your project, Leo. May you have many adventures sailing her. Remember the mast points toward the sky, and the bowsprit shows the direction of travel.
I’m so glad you made this video. There’s been so many characters working on Tally Ho over the years that have become almost family and it’s great that you’ve been back to see some of them. Port Townsend seems to be a very special place and it’s great to see some of the projects that the team are working on. You’ve been an inspiration to many and certainly to me…I’ve now at long last built my own boat and am involved in the restoration of two local classic fishing boats….both a tad older than Tally Ho. Thank you for everything.
Watched this from day one. When you were looking round the boat and pulling rotten bits off and seeing the state of it, I thought you were mad. Watching your work ethic and boat building skills, it only took me a couple of episodes to realise that you were going to finish the project. Not only finish it, but finish it to a quality that the original designer of the boat would have been proud of. Will be waiting in anticipation to see her in the Fastnet Race.
May I say watching this Tally Ho has had a massive effect on those that have worked on here. It's as if part of their souls are built into her as a legacy to what people are truly capable of. I can also say on my behalf having watched every single vlog of tally ho's journey to life again it has affected me too and I can't explain it. For over 18 months I have been working on my boat and for some reason I feel the same I love for my little boat and some part of me is in her too. I look forward to the adventures of Tally ho now as begins a new life.
I've been following for YEARS! I'm not sure if this is an ending or a new beginning,, or both... Sad in ways but exciting in others. Please please take us along on your journey where ever it takes you!! God speed and we ALL look forward to the next installment of that grand girl Tally Ho!!!
How many special people has Tally Ho over the years brought together. Bonds that are tight. Friendships formed and lasting. Here we are now. Sharing a moment in Tally Ho's journey. A wonderful experience that we've witnessed. Great to see old faces. Hi Pete ! Wonderful Raul.... What..... No parrot ? No Leo ! ! ! That's not good enough. That loyal bird. Sight foreman ! Miss her. Take care.
I have followed this project from my little place here in England, I have watched every single episode and loved every minute. It's wonderful to see the old faces again, I even said to myself "Pete, what are you doing?" when we saw him. It was also amazing to see Raul again, I did tear up a bit, you can see that he is still hurting, and anyone with a heart can feel his pain. Like the late Queen Elizabeth said "grief is the price we pay for love", and it's obvious Raul loved Darlene very much. Fair winds and calm waters to all, and a very happy Christmas.
Viewing this series from the 1 dollar purchase, to the masterpiece that it is. Thanks and looking forward to all that is coming. Onward and upward 🍻👨🏻🏭🇨🇦✌️
If it were not for these fine folks doing this work and presenting it to us in this media format most of us wouldn't know about others doing this type of thing near us. The Recreation of the "Seneca Chief" not far from me was a demonstration of skills of those doing the building of the Canal Boat that opened the Erie Canal that I lived on the south shore of. Leo and the Crew was always a warm and fun group to watch work. God Bless.
This episode really hit me in the feels. Served as a reminder how long we've been a part of that community in some way, and how much everyone involved over the years became part of our lives. I just hope at some point I get to see Tally Ho. Living in the Chicago area, it's not super-convenient to just pop over to the coast, or, eventually, the UK.
Thank you Leo and everyone who has been involved in this amazing project over the years. Wonderful people, wonderful project and an education in human spirit, integrity, design and hard work that would be impossible to pay for. I hope one day i might be able to shake your hand and say thank you.
Thank you Leo for sharing this journey with us. It brought a lot of joy and emotional moments to my life too. I am happy I could contribute to the project through donations. You've built something much bigger than a wooden sailing yacht. I can't wait whats next...
Hey Leo, I came to your project late (no idea how this got past me) and am still bingeing on the construction videos. What you have created here online is nothing short of incredible. The people you gathered around you to work on the rebuild were of the highest calibre, true craftspeople who take pride in their work and and keeping historical skillsets alive. There were days I never thought those damn frames would be completed! But it all worked out for the best in the end. Am planning on starting my own nautical adventures at the end of 2025 so will keep an eye out for one of the most beautiful sail boats on the water anywhere in the world. Bon voyage!
Great to see Raul looking so well. Without him and Darleen none of this would have happened. I hear Backtrack is still with Pete. I presume Sailor has gone to keep Darleen company. A very powerful and moving video. I hope all of them can come and visit the UK at some time. Outstanding 👏
What an excellent story-teller-documentarian you've turned into Leo. Revisiting your (OUR?) old friends and colleagues only reinforces how well you have been able to make us part of the close relationships you've made along the way. The support and work they did for you and Tally Ho make us want to say a proper farewell too. Great Job Leo.
I was fortunate enough to find this TH-cam channel early and even more fortunate enough to meet Leo early (do you remember the big bear dog and the dinghy Leo) it’s been a real pleasure to see this fine old lady restored to sailing. I wish you the best, and more importantly, the best to all of the crew that have worked on her for all these years. Please wave if you see us and our green lobster boat out and about!
From Squim to Port Townsend to Albert Strange. Two places and a designer that many of us had never heard of before that $1 was handed-over. Now, Port Townsend is on my radar for a career move as well. Back to boats, back to sailing after decades away raising a family. Thanks Leo.
This was in my top 3 channels I’ve ever watched, by far. The detailed work and craftsmanship was top notch….. I couldn’t wait to see Tally Ho hit water, now hopefully we’ll see some awesome sailing. Thanks guys.
I used to stop by in Aberdeen when Lady Washington was being built all those yrs ago and now here she is after watching Tally Ho being reconstructed. Funny how the world goes around
Leo, it was a pleasure watching the videos, and being the the boat yard watching it come together. I am very much looking forward to watching your journey as you sail back to England. Following seas my friend!
Saying good bye is certainly not my favourite but life goes on. I really think you left a mark on the community that will be remembered for a long time. Each person that worked on Tally Ho grew in the process and your leadership on this project will be remembered by all.
I'm not crying. ... no, not me. It's just something in my eyes. Love you folks. Maybe our paths will cross again and I'll have a chance to do more portraits of everyone.
Im so happy to see everybody again! It was bittersweet to see Raul without Darleen, but i know that she's looking down at everybody with that beautiful smile of hers blessing everybody!
Such a surreal moment. I have been watching through some of the hardest times of my life. You have been the amazing constant that brings lights to my days. Thank you I look forward to the new adventure ahead.
I am a carpenter but didn't grow up around or near the ocean . Always appreciated sailboats and boat carpentry . Learned so much from things i picked up on and learned , from Leo solving individual problems and the reasoning why and how of doing what he did . Turned out beautifully and continues to be a very interesting project . Looking forward to watching the trip back to the UK and beyond . On my bucket list would be to one day see Tally Ho in person . God bless all you guy's ! Merry Christmas !
Thanks for the journey on how to build the Tally Ho it has been fun. The different personality's of the builders are a reflection of what in all of our hearts with the wish we could do the same you are all lucky people. Consider finding or making a flag of PONCHO to be put at the top of the mast so he can keep watch and protect the Tally Ho So you can sail in the spirit of PONCHO.
Thank you Leo for this video. I've been following this channel for very many years, and this video also gave me an opportunity to say 'farewell' to many in your team. Not in person, but 'in mine soul', as Patrick might have put it. 😊 iIt is great to hear that Patrick and Bob will be joining the crew again. I enjoy your sailing videos as much as I did enjoy the build videos, thank you for a taking us along! Wishing you and Marit a happy Christmas, good sailing, and a wonderful time. All the best from the south of Germany, far too far from the sea!
What a beautiful finish to this part of the adventure. I look forward to the next phase and hope the videos will be coming out in a timely fashion. Watching the changes over the years and learning a little about the many skilled and talented people who have contributed to the resurrection of Tally Ho has been a very special experience. So thank you Leo, Merry Christmas to you and your partner and a very Happy New Year to you both.
Hello from Siesta Key Florida Hard to believe how fast time goes by. Seems like you were just looking at a rotting wooden boat For a dollar $ More than once has this channel brought me to tears. Been following Pete's new venture
I've just looked - there's not a single Tally Hon video I've missed...! Thanks to everyone for sharing themselves on camera for this project. Bon voyage!
Har varit spännande följa detta projekt från kölsträckning till detta fina inslag m alla skickliga yrkesmän. Hoppas du hittar något nytt spännande följa.
Aww, Leo, I came aboard on the first video and just want to thank you and all who have played a part in the rebirth of Tally Ho for the huge enjoyment I have had on your journey. I'll follow on as you sail and hope to meet you when you make an emotional return to the UK. Blue skies and fair winds. Xx
I can't believe the project is done 😢 just loved seeing everyone every episode. But with a boat, there are always adventures and projects. Maybe it is the Tally Ho Adventures with the sailing crew. 😊 Loved how you created items from scratched and recorded the Old & Modern Boat building into Tally Ho. The original owners would be blown away by the new systems (self sustaining energy, water, and high tech). Blessings
It was very informative to watch I had a misfortune, I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. I also created a channel and am trying to move in that direction, but so far not very successful(ffk
Pete!! Thanks for giving us that bit of closure. I absolutely loved and missed Pete.
I second that, such a miss when he parted ways!
Me too. He has started his own channel, I saw. Pearl in a can. Good to see that he is well.
I agree. His can-do attitude and positivity was a feature of the whole project. Big shoes almost filled by Paddy and Co.
@TR4zest - Thanks! Went right over and subbed. His first video is really great, it already has over 200k views!
Seeing them hug it out choked me up. I bet there was butting-of-heads during the project, because that's inevitable, but it definitely makes everyone happy to see things somewhat smoothed over.

Or as Leo might say, "Some mates can be bell ends."
For context, you are correct.
Leo’s tact and propriety is one of the show’s enduring qualities
Finally got Pete closure! Great video
I would love to see a financial breakdown of this adventure. What it cost of everything, and comments on how it took place, surprises, projected cost.
Seeing Pete touch base kind of feels full circle. Well done!

90 percent of life happens when we show up.
Remember when the boat was always 2 years away?
It still is for me. I'm waiting to greet Tally Ho and the Captain and crew to the UK.
Now the race is two years away!
Our little baby has grown up. 😢

Very heartfelt moment with Raul. Thank you for sharing, all these years have been a hell of a ride!
perhaps Leo could have added him and his wife's name to the boat
I usually don't tear up, but that was a special moment.
Its never too late? @diverdave4056
You missed out the real hero of the whole build, Pancho!
Lol.
Ya I was hoping to see him too
There is a post about her over at channel's instagram.
@@SciolistI don't have Instagram. I hope she's doing well.

Pearl In A Can is Pete’s TH-cam channel

It is improper to use the term "sinks in" when referring to a ship. It's bad juju.
I can’t be the only person who shed a few tears watching this episode. What an amazing group of people. Thanks for shearing this with us Leo.

Heck, they all seem like really good people, remarkable people with remarkable skill-sets and a remarkably different way of looking at, dealing with, and living life.
On full display here is the tremendous amount of wood shipbuilding skill in Port Townsend. Skills that are a dying breed.
I now also follow Pete's videos, great to see
So good seeing the team again, and stoked that seems like Bob & Paddy are going to be crewing in the future - I love those two!
Poncho? Oh my gosh, there is no closure without Poncho!
Merry Christmas one and all!

Heartfelt beautiful episode Leo. What a mensch you are. The universal gratitude in this footage was so gracious, so beautiful. Great videography as well especially the tightly cropped long lens seascapes. And that wide closing shot of Tally Ho, Ooph, just sublime.
interesting how one can feel a connection to people never met or interacted with in person.
Onward and upward

Holy Crap, the beauty shot at 28:42 seconds. Thank you all at Sampton Boat Co Family for taking us along on this journey. Lets go Sailing.
Bon voyage!
Thank you, Raul! Without yours and Darlene's kindness to Leo, this extraordinary project might never have happened.
Such a wholesome reunion special it was so nice to see the major players in tally ho's restoration once again! Glad to see Pete's doing well too!
The end of an epic build, where everyone benifited from a common goal. I admire Leo so much, what a trip it's been.
Omg PETE's in the thumbnail!
Perfect video to wrap up the end of the beginning. So appreciated.
The greatest show on Earth, land or sea
Haven't cried this much in ages
You never know who you’re walking past on the streets of Port Townsend. An amazing town.
Thanks for the journey on how to build the Tally Ho it has been fun.
The different personality's of the builders are a reflection of what in all of our hearts with the wish we could do the same you are all lucky people.
Consider finding or making a flag of
PONCHO to be put at the top of the mast so he can keep watch and protect the
Tally Ho
So you can sail in the spirit of PONCHO.
All of you who built helped and made this wonderful boat. Every episode I watched . Thank you Leo 🙏
Brilliant to see some of the very talented members of the restoration team.
A huge amount of knowledge and experience shared and poured into Tallyho.
I think that’s a good place for me to end my journey with Sampson Boat Co., too. It’s been a good journey, Leo- I enjoyed watching!
Good to see you two hugging.
Hello from Siesta Key Florida
Hard to believe how fast time goes by.
Seems like you were just looking at a rotting wooden boat For a dollar $
More than once has this channel brought me to tears.
Been following Pete's new venture
God bless them all and none more so than Raul.
What a beautiful soul he is.
🙏🏼❤️✝️❤️🙏🏼
Sláinte 🥃
I've just looked - there's not a single Tally Hon video I've missed...! Thanks to everyone for sharing themselves on camera for this project. Bon voyage!
😂 it's like interviews with witnesses to the crime!
Fantastic to have a catch-up with the folks. Thanks Leo.
Here for Patrick and his new haircut
Blessings
I'm so proud of all of you! Much Love and thanks!
It’s wonderful to see so many folks who were involved in the project.
A bitter sweet episode.
Really great to see all the guys doing well. The finest craftsmen you can find anywhere!
Thank you for sharing this journey with us! It has been nothing short of incredible to watch this all come together.
I needed this. On my porch listening to steady rain on the roof.
It was very informative to watch I had a misfortune, I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. I also created a channel and am trying to move in that direction, but so far not very successful(ffk
I've been with you most of this project and have love it. Thanks for letting me watch and enjoy for the years of boat building.
