I love the “Swedish Heart,” Jenny! And I love watching & learning from you! It’s wonderful to be able to watch you & your “Yesterday, Today, & Tomorrow” videos. Thank you from my “traditional” heart❤
My grandson needed a "handmade" project for his 2nd grade "Entrepreneur Day" at school. He watched this tutorial with me, and made several of them to share on that day. He (and I!) was so proud of all that he made, and how popular they were among his classmates. l do enjoy the quilting tutorials very much, but this one was a special joy to share with my grandson.
Thanks for the little bit of Swedish crafting/history! That is a great non-sewing craft to do with kids of all ages & they come away with a finished product in no-time at all. Wonderful again as expected.
I made these with construction paper as a child. When our son was in school I made the with Pellon between two pieces of valentine fabric. Slid a heart cookie in them and gave them as valentine favors. Always one of my favorite crafts.
Thanks for reminding me of these great little hearts. Back in the olden days (middle of last century!), as grade-school girls we made these out of construction paper and filled them with little flower bouquets. After stapling a strip on for a handle, we would take them to friends' houses and hang them on the doorknob to celebrate May 1st (May Day). I liked to make a special one for my Mom for Mother's Day; she'd pretend to be so surprised to find it hanging on the door. Warm fuzzies...
I work full time and take care of my 93 year old father....needless to say I don't have a lot of time to take classes outside of my home....your tutorials are wonderful!!!!!! And all of the products I have ordered are quality!!!! Thanks for helping me feed my "habit"! A very Merry Christmas to all......
Thanks, Jenny....when I taught school, we used to make these into tropical fish out of colorful or shiny paper and hung them as mobiles. They are confusing at first...the trick is to 'play' with it and it will sort itself out. Merry Christmas!
Thank you Jenny - and cant wait to try it! My Grandparents were both born in Sweden (Enanger) and as they died 67 & 54 years ago - this will make me feel CLOSER to them! :-) :-) Thank you again and MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
How fun! My grandmother taught me to make the folded stars. I hadn't done it for ages then last year I made 75 stars for Epiphany. I've never seen the hearts. I'll have to give it a try!
Hey Miss Jenny, thanks to that sky cam and the over the shoulder shots this Swedish heart is a snap. I always wondered how they made those. Thanks for helping out a fellow Swede at Christmas. God Jul! Susan
Thank you so much 😊 they are great 👍 fun and I'm sure children 👶 could have a go at weaving them 😁😁😁😁. Something to keep them amused on Christmas Eve 👍🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄🎄
It took me a while to figure out the weaving part, but I finally did. I decided to make mine a little bigger so I adjusted the size of the template and made three cuts. I punched a small hole and ran 1/8" ribbon through for a hanger and tied small jingle bells on each end of the ribbon. It was so easy! I made about 20 of them and will be putting candy in them and giving them to family and friends this Christmas.
I'm a swede and we used to make these in like kindergarden :P I think pretty much every swede knows how to make these. But we only used to make them from paper.
I fuse cotton fabrics together so the right side of the fabric is on the inside of the basket too. Hot glue a ribbon handle between the inside weaves. So much fun!
hi I have made this a long time too.(I am Swedish and I have a quilt store in Sweden). Traditionally it is made of metal paper ooch something shiny. For craft days in the store I have made them using Heat 'n Bond Ultra. I fuse two pieces of fabric with the Ultra in between and that way it will not ravel. Thanks for great videos:) Marie
Jenny I just love spending time watching your creativity in how easy you show us how to make and create so many beautiful things... Your the best, wish I could visit you and walk through your world of puting these quilts together you have become a big part of my day... I just love watching your instructional videos made easy for all to learn... And know you are there for us when we get stuck gives me comfort :) can't wait for the next one... I think I am going to try to brave a double wedding bad do have any advice to, where do I get my templets and such... would appreciate your words of kindness... thank you!
Thank you for a walking us through. It took me three tries, but I got it, by playing a few seconds, pausing, etc. It would have been helpful had it not been sped up, but I made it work! I used red and green so I wouldn't get confused watching along! Now that I know, I can use other colors! I used scraps of quilting cotton that I cut with pinking shears. I had to starch it pretty heavily to make it easier to handle. Charm squares are a bit too small for my arthritic hands, so I think I'll always make larger ones. :-)
Thanks, Jenny! I married a Swede, and I've always intended to learn to make these, and now I know how! Question: How do you fasten a handle to it? Do you sew it on, glue, etc.? The only ones I've seen have handles on them.
I have been searching for the name of of the block in a vintage quilt that my aunt has. The quilt is just like the one right behind you in this video! what is the name of it please.
this a beautiful craft...watch a few times ands finally made a heart...question...do both templates have to be the same size...I'm trying to make a larger one abs having difficulties...thanks so much
You mentioned in your video that you would have a pattern at the bottom of the video but wasn't able to see it anywhere. Could you please send this to me I would love to make them.
Cute little trinket, but sorry, could not follow video :( instead of sped up....needed slowed down a bit. But that's just me, I guess. Hope everyone enjoys their tiny project :)
Yes! I think people needed to hear that inside-outside-inside weaving part of each line, then to hear the next line starts with outside-inside-outside pattern to get it. I was shocked they sped up that weaving part, given you only do it 3 times.
I've been wanting to try these for a while. I can't for the life of me understand why y'all would want to speed up the video during the hard part though?!!! How is that helpful. I guess I'll keep searching for another video.
I usually love your demos but this one was impossible to follow after the first weave. Why on earth was the video speeded up. I couldn't follow the weaving part at all. I'm still trying to fathom out how to make a purse. Please repeat these moves slowly.
I love the “Swedish Heart,” Jenny! And I love watching & learning from you! It’s wonderful to be able to watch you & your “Yesterday, Today, & Tomorrow” videos. Thank you from my “traditional” heart❤

You are so fun to watch and have such a sweet spirit! I really enjoy your tutorials!
Another brilliant tutorial Jenny. Wishing you, your family and colleagues a wonder-filled Christmas, with every blessing.

So Thank you again
Thanks for showing me that. I am part Swedish but wasn't raised with any of the traditions so it's great to learn.

Love everything on MSQC. Jenny Doane makes it all look so easy.
A friend of mine made these for her guests at her wedding 18 years ago. I was so impressed by them I don't even remember what they were filled with!
How fun! My grandmother taught me to make the folded stars. I hadn't done it for ages then last year I made 75 stars for Epiphany. I've never seen the hearts. I'll have to give it a try!

Cute hearts! You're teasing us with "Lotties" quilt behind you. Maybe you would create a tutorial for this quilt? Pleeease?
Jenny, I was able to get three heart pieces from each 5 inch square. I made these for gifts for my Sunday school class members!
Thanks Jenny, those are fun. It's too late for Christmas but will be great for Valentines day!! My audio was horrible , but I think I got it all.
Krásne! Ďakujem Jenny ♥
Thank you, Jenny!
sounds like fun!

Since I used cotton, I'm going to edgestitch the straight sides.
(I never understand the down votes on MSQC videos?!?!?!)
JulieCCinCO The down votes are most likely from the "hand sewn, only" quilting snobs.
cmpnk1 Ah, well to them I say, "Try having two types of arthritis in your hands and you'll be very happy for a machine! :-)
Merry Christ mas and a happy peaceful 2014!
Thanks, Jenny! I married a Swede, and I've always intended to learn to make these, and now I know how! Question: How do you fasten a handle to it? Do you sew it on, glue, etc.? The only ones I've seen have handles on them.
Merry Christmas to everyone at MSQC :)
wish it wasn't sped up!! I'm a slow learner :( looks so neat I'm going to try it though
WOW!!! That was like instant magic for me! Thank you for sharing! You have a new subbie in me! :D ♥
My daughter in law taught me that, she is from Sweden too
ADORABLE!!!

Woah I didn't know y'all carried wool. Woohoo, Can't buy any till after Christmas, but to quote someone we all know "I'll be back"!
Since I’m half a Swede, I’m in.
I have been searching for the name of of the block in a vintage quilt that my aunt has. The quilt is just like the one right behind you in this video! what is the name of it please.
this a beautiful craft...watch a few times ands finally made a heart...question...do both templates have to be the same size...I'm trying to make a larger one abs having difficulties...thanks so much
I love the quilt in the background! I am new to quilting, what is the pattern?
that quilt in the background is so beautiful.. do you have a tutorial on it?
Love your tutorials!! What is the quilt behind you? Did you do a tutorial on it?
What is that beautiful patchwork on the wall behind you ?
Greeting Jenny for the Uk, love your heart craft. Please could you tell me what the quilt behind you is called I love it..
Thank you for sharing. It is fun craft. As you said it is a little confusing u could have explained a couple of more times.
If you made the heart twice as big, could you cut more lines in it for a bigger weave pattern?
Merry Christmas Jenny and your Family. happy 2014, Feliz Natal para si e familia e um bom Ano 2014
Obrigada pelos tutorias

You mentioned in your video that you would have a pattern at the bottom of the video but wasn't able to see it anywhere. Could you please send this to me I would love to make them.
Is there a tutorial on the quilt behind you? Merry Christmas
what quilt is behind you?
Here is that quilt hanging behind her again. Is there a tutorial for the quilt hanging behind Jenny?
Cute little trinket, but sorry, could not follow video :( instead of sped up....needed slowed down a bit. But that's just me, I guess. Hope everyone enjoys their tiny project :)
very nice - but next time, would you slow the completing part down. thank you for sharing.
great craft...but speeding up the complicated part was probably not the best thing to do, lol
Yes! I think people needed to hear that inside-outside-inside weaving part of each line, then to hear the next line starts with outside-inside-outside pattern to get it. I was shocked they sped up that weaving part, given you only do it 3 times.
Your link to the pattern and template doesn't work.
aren't they from Denmark? :P
YES!!!! They are from Denmark 😊
Actually kind of sad, that the swedish people here in the comments still keeps taking all the credit 🤔
I've been wanting to try these for a while. I can't for the life of me understand why y'all would want to speed up the video during the hard part though?!!! How is that helpful. I guess I'll keep searching for another video.
pattern and template please
Nadolig Llawen
I don't know why you go so fast that we can't follow on the last 3 times???
You showed how to weave these together too fast, Jenny. I love this idea but I guess I need to be shown slower.
I usually love your demos but this one was impossible to follow after the first weave. Why on earth was the video speeded up. I couldn't follow the weaving part at all. I'm still trying to fathom out how to make a purse. Please repeat these moves slowly.
