My best friend had a baby this year & I made a quilt for him…For his first Christmas, I used the leftover fabric from his quilt to make him a star ornament! Can’t wait to give it to her ❤
Pretty sure I just had a fabric tornado hit my sewing area! 😅 I picked up 6 grands from school today and this video pops up in notifications. Ari hits play and all of a sudden they all start yelling “yeah yeah we need to make these” next thing I know I have 6 littles picking out the fabric they want to use. They had a blast! Thanks Miss Erica for the perfect timing on an afternoon craft. All the kids went home proud as a peacock with their new star ornaments. Super fun and easy! That was the bomb digity. 🤗🤗
You can use two sided craft paper as well. If you twist before tucking the point you will have 3D points. In the 50’s we made these bigger with paper, dipped in hot wax then glitter. They were hung from the gym ceiling with light shining on them for a Senior Prom. We didn’t have the things for crafting that are available now. Thank you for a jot down memory lane.❤
Hallo Super aus aber kannst du mir das auf deutsch schreiben ✍ danke sind super 🎉🎉🎉 sachen was du machst und zeigt wünsche dir noch einen wunderschönen Tag
I have so much "scrap" fabric that I could use to make a bunch of these!! Now I know what I can make to go along with my hand-made crocheted scarves for next Christmas to donate to our local Veterans outreach program!
Hello, this star is not from Scandinavia but from Germany. It's called "Fröbelstern". A man, Friedrich Fröbel, invented it. He is also known in the USA. His birthday, April 21st, is celebrated there as National Kindergarten Day. He developed these stars, which actually have 8 additional points and thus have a 3D shape, for kindergarten children to promote their cognitive skills. In fact, I once successfully made it with a school class (8 years old) out of strips of paper. It is very popular here in Germany, but only a few can fold it.
@denisebooth866 the information about the German Friedrich Fröbel is true.I am a kindergarten teacher in Germany and learned about him during my studies ,also how to fold this star. You can read about him on Wikipedia
Thanks for the information. My mother-in-law used to make the 3D version out of paper for her tree. Since she was Norwegian, I just assumed it was from Norway. I took one of hers apart once to find out how she did them. These cloth 2D ones are very pretty as well.
These are beautiful! As a true novice I would have liked to see the whole star done in real time so when I make one I could follow all the way through. I guess I can rewind and repeat right. Looks like you do amazing work! Thank you for sharing this gorgeous craft!
If you click on the "gear" icon at the bottom of the video, you can change the speed of the video by clicking on "playback speed" and then selecting a slower (or faster) rate than the original speed. It does affect the sound as well, but it is handy for catching the details you might miss.
I had just watched another tutorial on these yesterday and thought I wish Erica would do one . I love your tutorials. So easy to follow. Thank you for all you do!
Thank you so much for this tutorial! Your instructions are easy to follow so I had no problems making these. I make ornaments for both of my daughters and two granddaughters every year for Christmas and I’m always searching for something unique. I’m making these ornaments for them this year. 😊
thank you. I've watched many videos on making this star. I kept getting the first start wrong...the way you laid out the start clicked in my brain ❤ great video
Thank you for doing this video. I've watched a lot of videos to learn things and yours is one of the best. You kept moving, kept it simple and didn't side track about other things. I've watched videos that was like watching paint dry. Thank you. 😊
Oh my gosh!!!! I’ve been trying to do this from someone else’s tutorial. I have had to start and stop the video so many times. I was so frustrated. She made mistakes, which we all do, but it’s very hard when you’re teaching a technique. I went all the way through yours and was able to make my Star right along with you. You are a great teacher!!!! Thanks for your tutorial, I will definitely be subscribing to your tutorials! Looking forward to see what else you teach. Thanks for making my stars so much easier and fun to do. Have a Merry Christmas!!!
Just finished making one with my 8 year old! Great practice for them cutting fabric and using the iron safely! Plus she knew the instructions before I did haha Thank you!
Thank you for a clear cut tutorial - I’ve seen these online, but didn’t necessarily get all the instructions. I appreciate your step-by-step teaching style.
We just made these at quilt guild and they are so fun. I came home.tonfind a tutorial that perhaps made explaining the process a tad easier because I want to have my grandbabies make some of these with me. Your way of explaining the steps is perfect. I think the children will catch on quickly. They are ages 5 3/4, 8 1/2, 10, and 11and the littlest one already sews a little with me on slow speed. Thank you for the tutorial.
This reminds me of the stars I made as a child 50 years ago except out of paper and in three dimension with a points in the center. We made them out of paper cut into about one inch strips wove them as you do with the point at the last. Then we dipped them in paraffin wax to stiffen.
This is such a fun star to make. I’ve made hundreds out of decorative card stock same measurements also smaller stars to match my larger paper stars. This year I’ve been making them out of jewel toned silky ribbon which is a bit of a challenge because they are so slippery to work with. Glue and my quilt clips are a must have for that project. They make nice hostess gifts or use as a place card at your holiday table make sure to let your guests know they may take their ornament with them or after dinner gather guest and ask guest to hang their ornament on your tree Happy holidays
Thank you! I have watched about 6 different video tutorials for these stars & yours was the easiest for me to follow. I made my 1st one while watching. Thrilled to have another project to use up my Christmas print fabric.
I watched your tutorial on these stars, and made 24 of them for my grandkids to have 2 each. I traditionally give each grandkid an ornament or two for early Christmas gifts each year. They all loved them.
Can’t tell you how fast I got up to get my son construction paper just to try this. I don’t have fabric but it definitely worked with the paper and it came out awesome….granted had to extend some pieces because it was a bit too short but it worked nonetheless. Very happy how it came out. Now my son is asking for fabric just so I can make these for the Christmas decorations 🤦♀️😂
This video is the first I've seen of yours. Thank you so much for being easy to understand and follow. I've been doing crafts for a lot of years, and your gift to teach is so helpful for those of us who want to make them. Hello, and I hope to make these later today when my grandkids come over for a sleepover. I think they will like them.
Love these. Thank you for sharing. Several years ago I did these with scouts using 1" ribbon. A Christmas print ribbon and a coordinating solid. I'm going to pick up some fabric today to make some of these for ornament swap.
I love this! I am going to invite some ladies over for craft night and this is what we will make. Made my first one tonight and thanks to your tutorial, it turned out great. Thankyou for sharing your talent and expertise. You are my fav!
Hi there!! Been meaning to tell you thanks for the tutorial to make these stars. I had a great time making these. I attend a Cowboy church and I made 30 or so for our church tree using cowboy/western prints. They were a perfect addition to the tree. Thank you so much!
very cute star and idea, I will definitely be making them. i think i will turn i into a sewing project though. i have a ton of jelly roll left overs. if i were to sew them together with a 1/2" seam and cut them to length i think that would make for a very interesting star with lots of colors! for those that want to skip the whole process of having to cut out the pieces of cloth to size, fold & press, repeat. you can simply buy 1" double ( that part is important double) folded bias tape. they have it at all fabric stores and in multiple colors, just not in the fun patterned ones. This may seem like i'm knit picking here, but i just want people new to sewing ( i know this is no sew project.) to know the difference. you kept saying to "press the cloth" when in fact you weren't pressing it you were ironing it. when you press something you press the iron down on an area lift it up and move it to another area. this is especially important when sewing bc if you iron you can stretch the material out and or out of shape.
Oh my gosh, these are darling! I love little projects like these because they might actually get finished before the end of time. Lol. And they would make cute little gifts too. Thanks, Erica!
Thank you for sharing your tutorial. I was given one of these fabric Star ornaments for Christmas. I watched your tutorial and just made one. Now I have plenty of time to make them for next Christmas.
That tree is so cute, Would be fun to make mini trees for Sr center residents, that above all would appreciate the quilted ornaments, this is so so cute
Hubby said he loved that and they would look good in grey and blue. I think red and green or we are Tennessee fans white and orange. Thanks for the tutorial.
Best instructions I’ve seen! Some of the others leave out some crucial steps. Your initial layout to start the weave is just want I needed. I am making some with quilting jelly strips which are smaller and cute! Thank you for your excellent video. A+
Well where ever they are made , thanks for sharing your version Erica , I think I would try sewing them closed or use some glue that wouldn't wash out so I could wash them when they get dirty .
Thank you so much Erica, I really really enjoyed watching create those beautiful and stylish fabric stars 🌟 they are really really cute and adorable too. Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags ❤❤❤❤
I love the concept. Love the star. But for those of us who are slow PLEASE don’t speed up. I was fine until you sped up the camera and I kind of got lost. You are a great teacher. I hope I’m not the only slow person. Thank you. Happy holidays!
Great tutorial! It looks so complicated but you made it very easy to follow! I can’t wait to try these! I think they would make sweet gifts for my ladies small group! 💕🙌🏻🎄
Those are so cute! Scandinavian! If your looking for things we don’t know I have an idea. I never learned how to read a knitting pattern or crochet pattern. I can knit a hat but I can’t read a pattern. Could you please teach me that? You are the best teacher on TH-cam!❤
I made these a few years ago for an ornament party and they were a big hit. So easy to make. I just may have to make a big batch for our tree that coordinates with the theme this year.
I love these! I made and gifted them to several people last year. I love the red and white that you've made. Great tutorial and thanks for the reminder! 😊
Thanks so much for your easy to follow tutorial! I'll be making these with my 3 grandchildren for all of my children and grandchildren this Christmas! I just subscribed ❤

Oh good, I'm so glad they had fun!
Oh my gosh. I just did these today with 4 of my grandkids and one on Saturday. They're so cute!
That’s so nice!
I love it! ❤️
They will make great keepsakes. Put each ones initials on the back for remembrance.,
Thank you for this tutorial. The first one was tricky, then I got in the swing of things and made 6 more.
Made these with my daughter in law and 7 yr old grandson. Great video and lots of fun. Thanks for great video and Happy 2023.

My dad taught us the same, but with christmas ribbons instead of paper or fabric
Kudos for decorating.

This looks like how we used to make the chains with our empty gum wrappers. in the 70s 😉 I'm liking this.
I have seen several videos on this star ornament and this is the best. It has the best instructions.
I had just watched another tutorial on these yesterday and thought I wish Erica would do one . I love your tutorials. So easy to follow. Thank you for all you do!

Beautiful ornaments! I made about 40 this weekend as gifts. Quick and easy once you get the hang of it.

Good point on the "press" vs. "iron", you are correct!
Just made a bunch of these...started out on another video but Erica's weaving method was so much simpler than the other video. Thank you!
Very pretty I love home made stuff no matter what kind
Thank you for this lesson I made 3 today you are great explaining directions

I love the concept. Love the star. But for those of us who are slow PLEASE don’t speed up. I was fine until you sped up the camera and I kind of got lost. You are a great teacher. I hope I’m not the only slow person. Thank you. Happy holidays!
Agree. Show each step slowly until star is done
Very fun project. You are a very good teacher and made it easy to follow. Plan to make some for this holiday. Thanks!

What a coincidence as I had just watched a tutorial on this same ornament….how fun and cute, thank you.
Those are so cute! Scandinavian!
If your looking for things we don’t know I have an idea. I never learned how to read a knitting pattern or crochet pattern. I can knit a hat but I can’t read a pattern. Could you please teach me that? You are the best teacher on TH-cam!❤
Okay, I'll add it to my list :)
Thanks for sharing this beautiful ornament. I love the idea of you having a Christmas tree in your sewing room. ❤️
Pretty awesome. Project for my grandkids for sure. I know what this year’s Christmas decorations are gonna be! Thank you!
