      This might be due to the fact that while the story gives you an objective to reach, how you get there is still partially up to you & there's exploration to do on the way. New sections of the map and how to get around for one

    My first was the prime mini game in nintendo land, which got me interested in the franchise. Then I have played through dread on switch and it is great. Also you can now play through all of the 2d metroids on switch but I hope they still add zero mission because Metroid 1 on nes is very difficult since there is no map or anything. Between the atmosphere, the weird creatures you encounter, that feeling off Dread that you could run into the SA-X at any moment (at least on a 1st time playthrough as you don't know what to expect) and the fact that Samus is in the weakest state she has ever been. Yeah Fusion is that one game that keeps you playing with your buttcheeks clenched. Things that Dread followed on... also to anyone who plans to play Fusion for the 1st time and is planning to use headphones, beware of the boss creatures' screeches, you have been warned.

  • @MichaelBuckley284
    @MichaelBuckley284 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Looking forward to another playthrough, my hands were cramping on my ds lite last I played it, so the larger controls I have on switch should be an improvement. Favorite metroid, hands down is echoes. But I can get why it isn't everyone's cup of tea, little lone casual gamers. I love the difficulty spike, morph ball's drastically increased utilization over mp1, in puzzles and bosses, ammo management, and I'm a strange outlier, who likes the key fetch questing haha (what can I say, just like exploring), MP2 was exactly what it needed to be in the trilogy, a display of the terrifying consequence of phazon to a planet over time, and hence conveyance of the stakes. And whereas the chozo were hiding the artifacts for the cipher from prying eyes but intended you to find them, it seemed natural, that the Ing, desperately trying to keep you or the luminoth from getting access to the stolen energy would put every hindrance to you getting the sky temple keys, and hence I didn't mind the fact you need a late game upgrade to even find them, you are overcoming their best efforts by becoming the strongest warrior they've faced. I love the power scaling feeling of Samus, and I don't feel like it is replicated to quite the same extent in other entries. But end of day, everybody has different characteristics they like in their metroid, and at the heart of all the mainline and primes is the core formula of metroid that we all love, hence, even my least favorite metroid is still one I routinely love to replay anyway!

    Zeltroid, if you’re going to make a video to help a first timer understand what they’re getting into with Fusion, it would be better to avoid story spoilers. Just a suggestion for the future.

    Fusion's my favorite 2D Metroid. The linearity didn't hinder the exploration for me at all, the BSA Station is a fantastic place to explore, even after beating the game. I remember being stuck at 99% completion, never being able to find that last thing, whatever it was. Hope to remedy that this time around.
    The dialogue is heavier than other Metroid's but make no mistake, it's fantastic and really does contribute to the flow and atmosphere of the game. So, if you're thinking "Other M," don't, it's the antithesis of that.
    Fusion is challenging but I found Zero Mission and Dread to be more difficult. However, Fusion is harder than Super. But like with all difficulty in the Metroid series, Fusion is not unfair. Once you learn the enemy patterns and get the feel for your power up's, it's pretty much cake after that.
    The SA-X will take you on one helluva thrilling (and chilling) ride throughout the entire game. The Bots from Dread have nothing on "her." In my opinion, the SA-X is, hands down, the greatest antagonist in all of Metroid. "She," and this entire game is an absolute must-experience!

    • @TheAdventGamer
      @TheAdventGamer ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I find things just hit a lot harder in the beginning of Fusion which makes sense considering this has been the weakest Samus has ever been. The surgery to save her from the X Parasite really took a lot from her. Still by the end you're probably as strong if not stronger then you were previously so there's that. And honestly I kind of like stuff like that.

My favorite game in the series is by far Super Metroid with Metroid Prime being a very close second.
    I just finished Square's magnus opus Final Fantasy XVI on the PS5 and I'm looking for something a bit more grounded to play. When I saw Metroid Fusion available on the Switch I about fell out of my seat. While I may not be much of a handheld guy I would be remiss if I didn't say how badly I have wanted to play this game. I believe Metroid Dread should have followed the same art style and not gone with the 2.5D or featured Samus running away from her enemies like a helpless child. It's like a 2.5D version of Outlast and Outlast sucked.

    usually older games being dropped is a good sign because as history shows, there's a chance there may be a remake announced today/recently or in the near future. And by near future I mean the next 3 to 20 years.
    Almost makes it look like a cake walk to wait for the different parts of Final Fantasy 7 remake. By the time the 3rd or whatever last part or disc comes out, I'll need a hip replacement from jumping from excitement.
    1:50 I agree that fusion is a good game that helps set up the gameplay for Metroid Dread though Samus Returns being from the same Video Company that made Metroid Dread, def is the one that helps with the gameplay mechanics in particular. However if you somehow master certain tricks/strategies in Super Metroid, Fusion, and Samus Returns in that order, being able to pull off those complex tricks becomes a lot easier as you yourself become a Metroid "veteran" having played at least 3 games including Zero Mission.
    "Fusion is too short"
    It kinda is but if there's a remake, I would imagine they might help upgrade the game's exploration and find a way to make it slightly longer, and I'm not talking about cutscenes.

    I wasn't a huge fan of fusion when I've played it previously, partly because of some poorly indicated paths for progression late in the game. (If you're stuck, there's no shame in using a guide. I would have been FAR less frustrated if I had done it) I also found some of the bosses frustrating because of how long it took to get back to them when you inevitably die. Don't get me wrong, I love a tough boss, it's why I love Dread so much, but sometimes it takes a few minutes to get from the last save room back to the boss afterwards. All that being said, I still fully intend to play the game when it comes out on NSO, I'll just be making frequent use of save states before bosses and using a guide if I ever forget where the invisible morph ball tunnel is 😂

    My first metroid was metroid ll return of samus I was kid with my gameboy and that game amazed me I thought it was the best game I'd played on the gameboy then I played fusion on the advanced and it was just a confirmation that it was my favorite nintendo game 😅

    I always though Fusion was a great game. I never minded the more linear style of it, because it makes sense in the context of the story. This game is more about a specific set of objectives, yet somehow, it still *feels* fully like a Metroid game. I think Dread did an amazing job of striking the perfect balance. I know some people complained that it felt too linear as well, but I definitely don’t agree. I think while Dread definitely softly nudges the player in the direction of the intended linear path, as we’ve seen now, there are TONS of ways to sequence break and get certain items early, which makes Dread really good for replay-ability.
    Hard to choose a favorite, but if I had to, I’d choose Dread. The only reason it’s not Super is because the controls feel a bit sluggish to me now. I think if we had a revamped (but not changed) Super Metroid with the fluid control style of Dread, that would be the absolute perfect game.

    Fusion has the best Metroid bosses in my opinion and is my fav 2D Metroid. My personal favorite Metroid however is Metroid prime 2 there seams to be some hate around that game but I played it over and over as a kid.

    I like this game Probably more because of the compelling enemy. Going from the hunter to the hunted imo made the game. If it didn't have such a interesting enemy I think it could have easily been one of the worst games.
    I personally don't like the movement and the jumps of this game. It's grid like and opposite of what I'm used to. This game was also held back from it's linearity but, at least then it could flesh out a concept like this.

    Fusion was the first Metroid game I ever finished, though Prime was the first I played. I think the more linear design makes it an excellent starting point for people new to the series.
    I would love to see Fusion remade someday. I think the GBA does hold back some of the atmosphere it was going for, and I would love to see it redone on modern hardware.

    Fusion is still my favourite game in the series, I absolutely suggest everybody to play this game.
    That said, at 1:07 you are actually missing OtherM between Super and Fusion.
    Despite it not being a numbered entry (it is basically Metroid 3.5), it is still part of the main games, as also confirmed by Dread art gallery.

    sorry not the hardest nor the scariest i love fusion but before i played it years ago people made it out to have survival horror type elements with the SA-X and its far from the case, theyre just scripted sequences and they always felt that way and broke the emersion i was feeling whenever i encountered one of those sequences, it made me think oh this is really just a scripted sequence i have to run away and thats that...Dread on the other hand the emmi give that feeling of true panic and tension, sure they are assigned to specific areas but, making your way through those areas is always accompanies a feeling of "Dread"and the hopes to god they dont run you down, out manuvre you, and pin you down, and the fact that you have a chance to parry and escape just adds to the frantic panic that sets in, like "oh my god i managed to escape i better get the fuck out of here" it gave me the survival horro elements i had gone into fusion looking for and i cant commend it enough for doing so, and also almost every fight in dread is a bloody scrap

    The linear nature is to drive it and give the game proper structure. It also make SA-X absolutely bone chilling because the storyline has driven you to the point where the reveal is jaw dropping. Personally love this title at the time I write this currently playing "Dread" and remembering how scary it was as a kid reminds me why I'm in love with dread tight corridor side scroll horror with Samus dipping around being badass in the process. Chefs kiss🤌
