The White Giant: A Mission to Ride the Lyngen Alps' Steepest Lines | Krister Kopala

- Last year, Rab athlete Krister Kopala dedicated his season to riding some of the most unforgiving lines on Jiehkkevárri, the highest and arguably most remote mountain in Norway's Lyngen Alps.
With its 1100 vertical meters of rock, ice, snow and no fall zones, the massive South Face, was by far the most intimidating line of them all.
'The White Giant', documents Krister’s journey on this impressive mountain and his project to ride the steepest lines of his life.

Also "only 45 degrees feels flat" is quote you need to frame. That's a great summary of the spirit.
It’s great to see the attempts that don’t work, they are such a big part of real life and are an important part of being transparent and therefore inspire people in a positive way.
criminally underviewed
Maaaan Norway churns out some of the most badass athletes. Cool
some of the most insane snowbording i've seen recently! Bravo Krister and Vetle, compelling storytelling
so sick, thanks a lot guys. I is such a pleasure to see you riding. all the best & have a good season ending 2024. From Munich - all the best! Daniel
Wow, just wow… credit is deserved where credit is due!! Amazing
What Krister does on his board is just unbelievable. Incredible stuff.
Always nice to see a little bit of insight into what does it take to ski such lines!, bravo Krister and the team!
What an insane piece. The riding, storytelling, filming
That's some mental lines you guys went for. Really happy you managed to get them and even happier you survived the process.
Way to shred, and all of you have the bravery of lions. And way to earn your vert. It's so extra satisfying.
Plus put together a big time high production value mini documentary. Plus all the other accurate accolades here in the comments.
The aerial videography and other footage is polished and gorgeous too. I spent a lot of winters skiing the Tahoe area mountains on and off piste. I've skied some of the steepest stuff in NorCal, Utah, Whistler, etc. and can't imagine tackling the sheer verticality of the upper pitches. Even with powder and softer snow. Other than avalanche anxiety I used to feel safe on extreme steeps with fresh snow and low avalanche risk.. But never at those pitches.
As you pointed out, the exposure and objective danger is Defcon 1. No mistakes allowed. Period.
Pretty rad stack of accomplishments all in all. Anyway, I enjoyed the heck out of it. The bonus is that backing track at 16:38. Sick tune. 😎
Thanks and best in your future endeavors!
Outstanding, so well done..excellent production..good job Krister..😊
Getting wiped out by a mistake vs. conditions. Conditions prevail. This is an excellent overview of conditions which might confront one at any given time. Perhaps not quite as far, or steep, or less maneuvering room for a short distance. Endless variations. Before cell phones, and air rescue, the envelope had not expanded to this level of risk. Very graceful.
Well done. Thank you for taking us onto this journey. Kudos to Vetle :-)
Really Amazing, Guys!
Thanks for doing this!
Wow. What a thrill. And with music from ISÁK. Awesome video!

@@RabEquipmentwicked riding! what's the song at 16:38?
@@mg3434 I believe this is a Norwegian band called Nonne. Their tracks which are very few are on Spotify and TH-cam but curiously enough not this song.
Best movie of 2023!
So sick!!
Badass! You guys got it.
Bravo!!!!!
Great docu
Unbelievably epic.
Unbelievable skiing/snowboarding skills on show, tough hike up but the scenery was stunning when the mist had lifted, super sick indeed! Those avalanches looked more than a bit sketchy, Russian Roulette indeed and the final descent was insane. Cheers Alan
That was crazy!
Wow Krister, weel done!💯
amazing!!
I was like there some serious riders coming out of Europe and soon realized its the same ripper from Nikolai channel. Absolute charger.
10:13 This comment really touched on the essence of the lifestyle you guys are living! Made me pause and reflect for a bit.

Time to send it down obel gabelhorn my man
Krister Krister Krister holly fuck det der e så fucking crazy.. stay safe dude
All I can say is.. Holy smokes!
krister is my god.
Krister is the most progressively ridiculous split-board mountaineer in the world atm... change my mind. Rab - Send my man to AK and watch him leave a vapor trail down the snowpack
sticking pole in the ground and hooks up. "Im standing safe now". Fuck that was a scary part :)
insane film!
think he was standing on solid rock too though but yes
❤ Kristen
Does anyone know the name of the music playing on 16:30?
Does anyone know what hardboot setup Krister uses?
Key Eqiupment Disruptive boot and Phantom bindings i think.
🤗
POW in April!?!!!
weee
16:38 song?
Man that last one was sketchy as H!
Terrible conditions lol. You all got more lucky then not.
I'd rather stay home and watch it on TH-cam.
