    I miss the RTS carriers. Obviously they were pretty OP back in the day, but they were more strategic and tactical than they are now. I think if they had toned down the damage by a ways and changed the spotting mechanics, they could have made a nice support class. Playing a CV now doesn’t even involve the ship for 95% of gameplay. You just become a pilot.

    • @andreaspedersen3952
      @andreaspedersen3952 7 วันที่ผ่านมา +18

      Not sure if I would call it OP.
      -There was a high skill floor because of the micromanagment and multitasking, so not many could make the most out of it.
      -If you look at dmg numbers, it has nearly doubled after the rework. Since gameplay has been so dumbed down, most can do well.
      -one of the biggest factors is the big nerf to AA. If you got too close to an AA cruiser with your RTS squadron, you could easily lose 10 planes. Also if the enemy CV was skilled he could strafe all of them in 5 seconds.
      -Yeah... the alpha strike could be extreme, but it demanded so much of the player. A couple of minutes putting up your squadrons in crossdrops etc and avoiding most of flak. It was a ballett of death and ridiculously har to do, so I had no problem with complimenting if one could devstrike me.
      -As I said: it's so dumbed down that WG were forced to give the class auto-repair and ASW. They can't even detonate! Remeber: before the rework a CV couldn't launch a plane if it was burning. I speaks a lot about how idiotic it has become.

    • @tsuaririndoku
      @tsuaririndoku 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@dididikaaaWith an experience DDs it is impossible. There is a drop gap where CVs can’t change the drop patterns. All DD has to do is pull full reverse and start turning into the torps. This cause the whole drop to miss or you dodge it between them. “Just Dodge” works back then. Not to mentioned, CVs now can Harass DDs a lot more often than before and picking DDs much easier than RTS one, if nor straight up killing them in a single air strike if land the attack correctly. Bombs might be the best effective against DDs but again it have drop time. All you have to do is time it correctly. Unlike Current CVs where you can’t even predicted the drop time. Because the drop time of the CVs are just drop in. Yes, RTS CV do have torpedo arming time better than current CVs but planes back then dies a lot easier and each plane kills is basically making CVs getting weaker. CVs can be totally useless in late game (depends on the players)

      @swanky_yuropean7514 6 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@tsuaririndoku I don't know what game you were playing but it was definitely not WoWs with RTS carriers. DDs were spotted permanently because you could hover a bomber or fighter squad over them indefinitely. AA worked differently back then, it was percentage-based. Depending on your AA values and the squadron's HP, you had a chance to shoot down a plane. DDs had horrible AA values, especially Japanese DDs. So there was no way to get out of permanent detection from an enemy CV. Then there were also cross drops, where a CV would just attack the DD from multiple angles. "Just dodge" is basically impossible in that situation.
      And then you had the occasional idiot CV that would waste all their planes in the first 5 minutes and then suicide into the enemy because he didn't want to just sit around wasting time for the game to end.

    • @tsuaririndoku
      @tsuaririndoku 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@swanky_yuropean7514 tbh, IJN DDs had it rough back then. But CVs back then also have it rough. If another CVs decided to go full AS mode or DDs have to atleast need a cruiser for assistance. Back then CVs have its loadout there were 2-3 loadouts. USN CVs usually go full AA mode because their drops were already powerful enough. IJN are more spam cans as IJN CVs held more aircrafts but less numbers within the squadrons. Fighters used to feel like it is something where it disrupted CVs. IJN DDs aren’t very good against CVs anyways. I mean what do you expect from a Japanese Ships for the AA guns? Plus it is balanced back in the day where Type 93 have the same torpedo detection as Mk14 torps. Back then, Shima 20km torps are very popular. Because they can just drop at 20km and CVs can’t track them down as often. I mean having 3.5km air detection combine with 20km torps that are also stealthy are very powerful. Oh and back then people can shoot undetected at certain ranges. Unless you are BBs. Many IJN Cruisers and Destroyers can shoot without being detected. Remember annoying Zao or Mogami Cancerous 155mm, even the Tier X BBs have to focus on it? Due to how stupid that ship was when using 155mm spam in the open seas with good concealment and you can’t detect them back while they can use 35knt speed to kite away from detection. Back then it was a menace. Which is why CVs are very balancing factor against IJN ships back in the day. These little things also easy to rudder out from any situation due to high concealments.

  • @damiandorhoff719

    Keep in mind that the priority target skill did not exist. So cruisers did not know if someonewas aiming at them. Especially at high tier a spottet cruiser could be deleted at any moment. The same thing could happen to a bb that shows any kind of broadside before the german bbs arrived. So alot of players just went bow in until they were way to close because they were afraid to turn out and show broadside.
    At the beginning it was even a1 point captain skill if you want to know if you are spottet. DD players ended up grinding up a new captain on every dd because if they retrain an old captain they would not know if they are spottet while the captain was still in retraining and could not use his skills. So they could be perma spottet without knowing it until they were under fire.

    I think that was the last (and in my opinion the best) iteration of this map before she was completely removed. There were players that hated it, and I think they hated it of the same reasons others loved it. You could set up an ambush, sneak behind the lines, even hide from the CV, use the islands of cover and some other things. This map opened up a lot of options if you weren't fighting the cursed standard battle, where you were more or less forced into the middle.
    When it comes to the player base and their skills, I think you can't really compare it. Does the player base has been degraded, when you look at the skills? Yes for sure, but you can't compare it with the first days of the game. Back then there was no established player base with players that had played month or even years. That is different now. You mentioned the stale games in high tier now. These stale games show how degraded the skills are. People doesn't know how to attack anymore or what to do, they just stay at one position and fire. Situational awareness ist today more or less unknown. Go through the old replays. How many battles will you find, where BBs standing still in open water firing, maximum moving a little bit forward or backward. Everyone would have told you, unless you are protected by an island, never stop. Stopping means dying! Look at the battles now. Many ships park in open water totally unprotected or better only protected by range and the RNG coming with it.

    I really miss the RTS era, I had 80% victories in my Zuiho, 65% ish win rate in my Ryujo, Kaga and Saipan, however high tier cvs really sucked. I kept away from these because the enemy allways did weird stuff with straffing which deleted all my planes.
    For instance, when the enemy fighters strafe out of a battle (losing a plane in the process) my fighters kept lock in place for awhile. They wouldn't even strafe back or anything. But when I did that the enemy players would inmediately strafe my fighters without cooldown or anything.
    Then Worcesters came, with it's 3500 ish AA damage per second plus being able to use AA from smoke screen and I just quit playing high tier cv battles.

    You ware wondering from where is the Replay. Its from the beta , just not sure closed or open. On the post battle screen is "Beta work in progress". About the 3 tier spread ,I think they fixed that in the first few months of release. They used the WOT spread but saw that it wont work on ships because t6 and 7 had no chance vs 9 and 10. Also it took them about a year to release that they had to put a lock on CV tiers to avoid this as T7 hand no chance vs 9.

    I remember the islands in the the north being massive and when you went in there it was tight. Lots of hiding and brawling around the islands. RTS CV was overall a better experience in ships. Dfaa was very useful, the fighter could help. Grouping up actually made a big difference to survive against CV'S. The player felt like they had options against the CV. Especially late game when they would actually lose planes and that mattered. There was more cv on cv crime. You could get the CV's on for and disrupt flight operations. The strafe mechanics made the skill gap much higher and did hurt the matches. They really just needed to tweak things, but they wanted that console player money and built it for that audience.

  • @tsuaririndoku

    Back then RTS CV is better at controlling CV themselves because they don’t have to press M. Because you can just press 1 and auto pilot around while moving aircrafts at the same time. Most of the time CVs does this. Which is making them harder to dodge torps because top view have limitations and CV flight decks is wide, which isn’t your actual ship hull.

    I still had a lot to learn back then. So I often did yolo rushes on bbs with a dd. That map was perfect for that.
    I also remember the +3 MM. I had an Omaha and some games were against south carolinas and others against north carolinas and I am not sure if there was even a game with both carolinas in the same match. Matchmaking could be really funny with one team having more ships but the other team having higher tier ships. Or one team having higher tier ships and a tier 2 ship in a tier 8 match.
    And people did fail divs and bring a tier 2 umikaze into tier 10

    There's been at least three versions of islands of ice that I remember. This one, the one that came after it, where one of the caps was really separated by large islands from the others, but no smaller ice field, and then the version we have now. I do agree the small ice field in the SE makes it different than most maps, the problem was most people tended to avoid it heavily, I kinda prefer to second version of the map for this reason.
    The whole standard battle with single cap mode was never good though. I have a total of 24 draws playing the game, and I'm pretty sure 90% of those came from this game type. For those that don't know, ships didn't give or remove points at this time, so the only way to win was to cap the center. If people kept resetting the cap, or if they ignored it for too long and weren't able to kill the entire enemy team it was a draw.

      they were fun to play but the micromanagement could be difficult. Especially on Japanese CVs. While on US CVs in mid tier you had the option between a Bomber Layout without fighter protection and a fighter layout with only one or two dive bomber squadrons. You can say WG took way too long to balance RTS CVs until it was too late.
      The Problem was that the Player Base could be very hostile towards Players that still had to learn. Especially towards inexperienced CV Players. It was so bad that people Teamkilled their CV or ratted him out by giving the enemy Team his position.

    I do seem to remember there was another version of this which had the North West a bit more open and the ice field changed a bit, but I don't recall if it was before or after this version, I do remember being gutted when they changed it completely to the version which was waaaay more open with the two big islands right next to the centre cap, didn't they talk about destructible ice bergs on the rework, did that even happen or am I just making stuff up now, man it's all so hazy!

    🤔
    CVs were "balanced" by capping their aircraft capacity, but once all planes were expended, you were as useful as a sitting duck.
    How about allowing to (literally) buy squads after you run out off them? 20k creds per squadron at T4, up to 100k at T10, with a maximum of 3 squads.
    OR, adjusting the gameplay. You expend all the planes but in exchange gain control of the secondaries?
    Dunno. Thoughts. Ramble ramble.

      Given that wg seems too afraid of buffing AA

      Honestly, the CV plane caps or whether they regen is kind of a red herring. It makes no real difference. Some CVs are gonna have plane caps are that are high enough that it doesn't matter and those are the CVs that will be played. Those that have low caps just won't be.
      Midway had over 100 planes in the hangar. You'd have to wipe the squads many times to actually deplane her.

      Plane caps are mandatory. CV players need to know risk management when to commit on attack. Since you are most likely to survive till the end and you are not under pressure. As we see today, giving ability to infinity replenish in most broken class in the game is most surely bring problems. Carriers should have remained high skill class.

    No wonder the players left the game in droves. The amount of damage done by RTS CV's is idiotic.

      Err, the game grew quite a lot from the time this video was made. This was literally right after release or during beta. The other RTS CV video you saw was 3 years later.

      @@Aerroon Sure, but RTS CV's still sucked because of this mechanic being so OP.

    The game was so good back in the days. Today it's at best mediocre. Good old days 🫤
