I bought this bike. 2022 CRF450RL. Great bike, but I agree that it should be less race engine which has more maintenance and be able to hit the highway longer distances to get to more trails. In my area there aren't many trails close by.
Honda honestly needs to make bored out to be a 500cc single bigger oil capacity with two oil filters. Basically just modifying the 450x engine a bit to be the perfect consumer light adv bike breaking KTM/Husky’s hold on the market. With 5000km oil changes, 65hp, 300lbs wet. Perfect bike.
The bike you describe sounds great, but as you accurately predict it would probably cost about $11k. Personally, I would still choose the CRF300L Rally: 330 lbs, 10.9” ground clearance, 200 mile range, ABS, 70 mph cruising speed, 80 mph top speed, 8k mile service intervals, and all for only $6,300. However, @Honda, if you make the bike described in this video, PLEASE take notes from the T7 and keep it simple, optional ABS is all the tech it would need.

I've always said that a similar 450 with quite a bit more power would be ideal, especially if it's still a somewhat lightweight machine. If Honda made this bike, I'd have to seriously consider it.
I have a Tiger 900 RP and a CRF 300 Rally. The Honda is where I spend all my time because it’s just so much better off road than the Triumph while being close enough on the highway. I’d trade the Triumph in a heartbeat if a 450 Rally as described in this video was ever built.
@@philipbarton2634 Typically an hour to an hour and a half from my house to trails. I ride out at factory pressures then air down to 15 psi off road. I truly believe Honda are like a great wise Oracle. The punitive cost of fuel and being a finite source, the supposedly underpowered CRF 300l Rally is adequate for a new wave of early adopters of riders who will wonder what all the fuss is from the older generation regarding the nitpicking of minor issues. I own a Yamaha wr 450, a KLX 300r (the 2006 model that weighs only 106 kg) , a 660 Aprilia manufactured mt03 and despite my awareness of variables in power delivery of all these bikes , CRF 300 Rally seems perfectly adequate however I'm from New Zealand and our highway speeds are conservative compared to the US or some parts of Europe. I guess it's a perfect fit and therefore I don't feel the need for the likes of a gas guzzling 450. The we 450 isn't exactly economical nor are the likes of a KTM 450 and especially a KTM 690 all of which I've ridden. Economy is a major consideration here in New Zealand. We're paying as much as$3.00 - $3.15 per litre at the pump!!!! Incidentally the Yamaha 660 Mt 03 2014 model gets around 68- 70 mpg imperial gallons and weighs only 174kg !! Has an adventure bike geometry and handles back roads just fine.
Given that it would be unique in the segment, I'd gladly pay a couple thousand more than the 450L. Keep it simple like the 300L and I think it would be a winner. But if they don't keep it accessible to the average rider in weight, cost, or Hight it will be a no go for me.
They should use the cb500x engine with a more torque oriented tuneup, a new frame, with suspension and tbe other details... But they already have a great engine for rally purposes
In 71 I got out of the service and hadn’t owned a bike for six years. I was 24. I bought a Suzuki Apache 400 and went into the North Louisiana to do some real damage to my feet, hands, head and back. I’ve never wanted a bike focused on off-road again
Subscribed and appreciate the content. I'll add my voice to those asking Honda to make a 400 cc Rally. Any bigger than that and the gyroscopic forces of the engine make steering tougher - the reason the Beta 390 is nimbler than the 500 while almost weighing the same. Also, I can understand not wanting to cannibalize their 450RL sales, which, as noted are competing with KTM and Husqvarna bikes. A rider friendly CRF400 Rally with a shorter seat and a de-tuned engine for long maintenance intervals would not do that. It would attract DRZ 400 and WR250R riders in droves. Please Honda, help an old man out who's looking for a bike that won't crush him or leave him stranded in the back woods - 690, 701 ...cough.
I would seriously consider buying a 450 Rally if it existed. Always loved the look of the 250/300 Rally, but at 250lbs without gear they just don't have enough power. I currently have a KTM 890 R. Having 2 ADV bikes seems kinda silly.
I think that many ADV bikes are far more capable than their present owners are anyway! To be as good as the Dakar riders would take me many years of training and much money. I applaud the current bikes on the showroom floor and am glad just to be able to ride what what I have.
Exactly well said . Ive got an Africa Twin 100L and an 850 would be much lighter . Ive test ridden a T7 but its still on the too top heavy side . 450 Rally with 40 HP with a strong sub frame would be excellent.
My adventure motorcycling isn't on highways so I'd like the ADV version of the CRF300L with a large rack, 5+ gallon fuel tank and some nice color like black instead of racing red. If I rode highways much, I'd definitely want the 450cc engine and probably a windshield. Alternatively, I'd also be very interested in Honda making an Africa Single, much lighter than the Africa Twin, 400cc to 500cc single cylinder engine, ABS and maybe modes for street, rain and off road. Keep it light and simple, and $8000.
It has to be on a par price/ feature wise with the Tenere even if Honda increases capacity to 500 - 600 cc or brings out an 800cc version of the Africa Twin. I’d favour a 600 if it came in lower, less expensive. A basic version and a more expensive higher featured Adventure version.
I predict an 850 TransAlp before a 450 Rally. Would cater more to the travel and moderate adventure crowd that don’t want to tackle a 500-600 pound big trailie.
Hope it's not a 850 I don't think it needs to be that big. 750cc would be enough. The crf1100L is already lighter than the bmw f850gs. How much would this 850 be ? The transalp went 600 - 650 then 700. And it sounds like the transalp name is going to be re used.
Unfortunatly this dream will never come true....it´s a slap in the face that a chinese manufacturer named KOVE listening to what the ADV world demands for years and build a 450 Rally bike for the masses....somethig the Japanese brand never was and will be able to do...although they really tempted us with the CRF 450 L Rally Prototype they showed on the fairs for years.....blame you for this HONDA! I really love my modified CRF 250 Rally but i bought it because there was no alternative out there on the market for my preferences as there was no 400-500cc single or twin ADV bike available weighing 150-160kg. If there will be one alternative and this will also be well priced than i will switch! HONDA won the Dakar Rally with Mr. Brabec and that was the best time to sell a CRF 450 L Rally but they didn´t.....i never understand that behavior....
You should really consider the 690/701 platform. 350lbs. The lc4 engine has been sorted out nicely on reliability. Long service intervals, 74hp. Huge aftermarket. Put on a windshield and comfy seat and your set. There’s even a Long range model with extra tanks.
With GPX, at least someone seems to finally answer the call. Hope their 450 Rally will finally land in summer and get the good build quality their current bikes have now reached thanks to them actually listening to their customers.

@@philipbarton2634 Typically an hour to an hour and a half from my house to trails. I ride out at factory pressures then air down to 15 psi off road. I carry a small pump to put 3or 4 pounds back in before riding home The triumph needs nearly twice the pressure on road and the TFT goes nuts when you air down even slightly
Enjoyed listening to you, presenting like my professor back in the university days! Thanks
AJP PR7 ...it's just about what you describe as your unicorn bike
Heck yes! I want a real dual-purpose bike that is light enough to throw around on the trail when necessary!
I want one. I have a 250 Rally and a 2020 Africa Twin. I’m ready for the third and (for now) final pony in my stable.
Yes Honda I would. In a heart beat if you make that bike.
I would seriously consider buying a 450 Rally if it existed. Always loved the look of the 250/300 Rally, but at 250lbs without gear they just don't have enough power. I currently have a KTM 890 R. Having 2 ADV bikes seems kinda silly.
Its the perfect Bike 💪
I think that many ADV bikes are far more capable than their present owners are anyway! To be as good as the Dakar riders would take me many years of training and much money. I applaud the current bikes on the showroom floor and am glad just to be able to ride what what I have.
It would be awesome to finally see a crf 300 Rally ! Same aspect!! But with 650 or 700 c.c. Engine !! What do You think about it !? !!
I've been commenting this on hondas posts since the 450L came out.
I’d love a 450 Rally
Exactly well said . Ive got an Africa Twin 100L and an 850 would be much lighter . Ive test ridden a T7 but its still on the too top heavy side . 450 Rally with 40 HP with a strong sub frame would be excellent.
Bring it on... Honda...
Crf450rl exists now, but apparently it stalls all the time in slow speed off roading unless you spind thousands on hew ecu and exhaust.
Honda, Yamaha, KTM, BMW, please give us more mid-weight capable adventure options. 450-500 cc is plenty of fun!
I‘d buy it instantly.
Ajp pr7 checks a lot of these boxes
It has to be on a par price/ feature wise with the Tenere even if Honda increases capacity to 500 - 600 cc or brings out an 800cc version of the Africa Twin. I’d favour a 600 if it came in lower, less expensive. A basic version and a more expensive higher featured Adventure version.
I'd buy one 100%. GET IT DONE HONDA!
Legendary bike if it were to materialise! I would definitely buy one for around the tenere cost. Please Honda! We are all waiting!
I would be happy to have the CRF300L Rally available in my country...
Do you remember Indian FTR750 track concept?
PepperRidge farm remembers.
This would be the perfect bike…
I’m in line for mine, just waiting for it to show up.
I agree! Option B for me!!
I totally agree. in order to make the engine less labour intensive, I think they should do it with a twin cilinder 500 cc engine.
@@chrishart8548 - Definitely agree and would like to see a 700-750 as well with weight at or below the Tenere.
This is all I've wanted for years. If someone made this bike from the factory, it could be the only bike in my garage.
Thanks for another solid video!! I was just saying to myself today when is different strokes gonna post a new video:)
Thanks! The next one will be a Cross-Canada trip.
@@DifferentSpokesTVsounds great 👍 I will definitely be checking it out!
KTM / Husky quality is what it is.. it's not just engines that explode
I was close to getting a 2018 690 but was just unsure about reliability. If I found one for the right price now I might pull the trigger.
@@DifferentSpokesTV try and get a 2019 690 or 2017+ 701 so you get the dual balancer shaft. Pretty nice.
Heck ya this would be perfect !! Make it
With GPX, at least someone seems to finally answer the call. Hope their 450 Rally will finally land in summer and get the good build quality their current bikes have now reached thanks to them actually listening to their customers.
