If Honda do a 450 Rally with respectable service intervals, tall 6th gear for highway, comfy seat and good fuel, they'll have probably created the bike that virtually all 'adventure riders' would agree is the closest thing to the mythical unicorn... Honda DO IT!!
@@sayuas4293 the crf300l weighs more than the crf450l, despite how little sence that makes. Odds are that would translate into the rally model as long as they don't do anything stupid. Overall I think it would weigh much more that the crf300l rally and it would be an absolute unicorn.
After the 100km of enduro trails I did yesterday with my 300l rally I was overwhelmingly surprised at how it handled everything! From tall hill climbs, sand, mudding, and the trip back home it was great! I am not surprised they sold out everywhere because they are the go to right now.
I've had a 300L, and I picked up a Rally last weekend, used. I put a Yoshi and 550 Stage 1 ECU on it, and took it on a short adventure ride this weekend. It was plenty on the mountain roads, and so much more fun on the fire roads than an 800cc behemoth.
I've been researching for a 1st bike since 1992... lol, I decided that dual sports are where I belong & so I've got 7-8 bikes I've been looking at every MOD & their cost along w/ the feasibility of my doing that upgrade. Intent & Cost are the two mitigating factors & I've patiently looked at everything; Last week as I went to the Honda Dealer Website I found the Rally version which put me on my head. Wow, this version offers lots of things that added up have sold me over all the others. I'm kinda like your wife in experience at this point but thanks for your video, it adds to what I already have come to love & I don't even own it yet - go figure? Exciting!
I've been following you for approx. 4 month's now & have really enjoyed your video's. You & Brook do a super great job. My hat's off to Brook as you can see by watching that she really tries hard. Keep up your great effort's Brook. Thank you & have a great day!! Illinois, USA
Just bought a rally to replace my DRZ400 (tired of carb cleaning) and wow does the rally ~feel~ soooo much better. That gear ratio is perfect (1st gear for DRZ was always way too tall), the clutch (I have never felt such a light clutch before), the idk what is but it just feel so much lighter than the DRZ
The 'misses' and the near misses in your video explained much more about the bike and the capabilities than the sleek pro's in the bike release commercials. Great, great video! Thnx for sharing.
Great video, P! When you fall you're supposed to yell "Jimmy's down!"(Seinfeld reference) 😁 After dropping the T7 6 times this past weekend, my son riding my KLX300 is now also looking forward to me getting a lighter bike for off-roading, since he got to help me pick it up 6 times.
A XR400L would have been an amazing thing. Add Rally features and it might have been the perfect unicorn. From what I have seen of the 300L Rally it looks like the best Adventure bike available.
Me and my wife also ride a Crf300L rally but I have a Crf1100 standard , I was laughing when I herd the sound of your wife communication system because that is exactly what I am hearing when we go on trails a bit to hard core 🤣🤣🤣. Love your video ! You are exactly right to say this bike is not just for light off road , I took it to extreme trails in Quebec .
Hey, Brook is doing better than I am! Just pick it up and go on. I have a few more drops before I get it right! Looks like a great starter bike and the price is about right, I may go for one myself!
Yeah, I’ll probably get the engine guards this winter. So far I’ve only beat up the stickers. The problem with the engine guards is I’m not sure how difficult it will be to remove the plastics with them on. I don’t want to have to take apart half the bike just to change the oil.
Yep. The problem is that it’s grandfathered in here in North America so there is no incentive to improve it. They’re charging more for it than the Rally btw.
Sticking with my dr650 until something similar to a 450 rally comes out from a Japanese manufacturer. It would be lighter and likely as powerful if not more powerful than my dr650. That would be the unicorn for me.
Got a 300 Rally on order. Never even so much as sat on one in a dealership, but I did my homework and I think it’ll be a fine, lightweight woods bike for North Idaho and Eastern Washington mountain moto camping.
Morning from new Zealand just got me a 300L down here really enjoying it and find it great 👍 got about 3000 km on it also got a v Strom 1050xt for road work one think that put me off the rally was that head light 😀 looks odd 😀 Cheers enjoy your video
I have a 250 rally and it's a heavy booger when it starts to lean at a stand still. I'm not totally flat footed on it but it does feel light on the trail riding. Fun and great looking bike.
"Ichy boots" has been driven quite a bit with Honda 300 there in south and middle amerika..heading to Alaska. Seems that she is happy with her bike. Also having 1,16 milj. followers...
GREAT video. My 07' KTM 450exc, 525exc or XR400 w/E-start will never be replaced but i will add Yamaha's replacement for the WR250R whenever that comes.
I've been interested in a lightweight (learner legal) ADV that is capable offroad, and most of the options are just naked bikes dressed up with ADV fairings. The CRF300 Rally is about as close to a serious trail "ADV" as I've seen. It would be nice if there were more options that didn't have alloy wheels, disappointing ground clearance, and low bottom-end torque.
Agree 100% Seems the journalists had some preconceived notion that the two bikes had vastly different applications even though they are nearly identical mechanically. My rally has been though nearly every type of trail we have in Florida but I am about to by a standard 300 as well and modify it for more off road capability.
Well I did find a 300L last week and took it out to the forest this weekend stock aside from some bar risers. My son rode with me on the Rally, it was his first time on bumpy trails and deep sand. I have to say I'm shocked at how different the 2 bikes actually are. The Rally dwarfs the L in size, both width and height although my Rally got a little taller due to the Motoz tires. In the woods the 300L feels infinitely smaller probably due to the nav tower and windshield not being there. I ordered the kitchen sink for the L already including the D606 / MT21 combo to compare against the RallZ tires on the Rally. If either set is more road or dirt biased I may switch them from one bike to the other. I did post a short video of both bikes together in the woods however our off road experience is weeks not years.
Had the ‘17 250 Rally for 3 years and it was a “good “ not great bike and that was because Canada’s roads are straight and more straight with high speeds in order to get to the trails. It is hugely forgiving and I credit it for getting me back on after 25 years not riding. Traded it in when I got my KTM 790 Adv r ( love this bike’s character and competence) but wish I kept fir my boys. If Honda did a 450 or 500 Rally, well, that would be awesome.
I had the CRF250L Rally and it was a really good bike capable of more than just gravel roads but I tried to push far beyond gravel roads and went well past its limit. In its stock form it it was rather weak though, once I changed the gearing, put on some off road tires with bead locks, an EJK fuel controller and modified the exhaust and air box it was better but still not great. The suspension (I'm 240lbs so the suspension never stood a chance) and weight of the bike became its most limiting factors at that point and it was exhausting trying to muscle it through the trails, admittingly trails it was never meant too ride. I realized I was using it just as dirt bike and didn't need the street legal classification so I sold it and bought a Husqvarna FE 350, I am much happier and am able to go much farther for much longer on it without fatigue setting in. Incidentally, Corbin makes a seat for the CRF250 Rally so I would imagine they do for the 300 as well. It is an expensive upgrade but well worth the investment if you plan on doing long days in the saddle.
Thanks for the tip! We actually had the saddle shaved as part of the lowering process and Brooke is still all day comfortable on it. It's definitely not a dirt bike, and if I want to ride rougher stuff I'll look for something more capable.
@@DifferentSpokesTV That is what I should have done from the start but I had just had back surgery a year prior and thought my dirt biking days were over and had sold my CRF450X. I bought the CRF250 Rally thinking I would just stay on the dirt roads in the vicinity of my off grid cabin, you can probably guess how long that lasted before I hit the single track trails. I kept it for 1.5 seasons before I finally accepted that I needed an actual dirt bike. Great bike for the trails you show.
In my opinion, the 300L Rally, KTM 390 Adventure, and Royal Enfield Himalayan are the best short and/or new adventure rider bikes out there. All have their pros and cons but I like your choice. I am extremely interested in the rumored KTM 490 Adventure and Husky Norden 501. They could fill the niche you described perfectly and are supposed to be released this year. The Honda 450 RL Rally, the upgraded Tenere that’s now being talked about, and some off road Triumphs and Hondas people are chatting about speculatively could be really cool too. 👍🏾
Being based in the UK, as far as I know we only have the choice of CRF300 or KTM690 - no middle ground whatsoever. (there is the 450L but it is way too expensive) Hype level for anything new that fills the gap would be insanse!
For the sake of an argument, let's say you plan to ride Trans America/Canada Trail (or just a portion of it) which would include about 8 hrs a day of riding on off-road (nothing extreme, just gravel, packed dirt...), and paved roads (no highways and interstate, nothing over 55-65 mph). Let's say for about 2 weeks. What modifications on CRF250L/300L would be "a must", and what modifications you would prefer? How to make CRF travel, "long distance" Dual Sport bike? Thanks.
Great video! I have been watching quite a few videos of the Rally and considering one very seriously. Maybe if I delay a little more I'll hear an announcement for a 450 version. 😄
Just like the CRF250L was dumbed down from CBR250R 26hp spec to only 23hp. The 286cc of the CRF300L was dumbed down to only 26.5hp from the CBR300R 31 hp spec. Just use the CBR300R ECU with some stage one mods and enjoy about 33 hp at the crank. A low cost YSS rear shock with rebound damping adjustment can easily solve the comical noSHOWa rear suspension work.
The only problem With 250 and 300 Rally over the L version is the soft low down plastic. Id like to see the larger tank and some protection instead of the plastic which breaks too easily.
Can't wait to get my rally I'm 4 on the list . Its taking forever for dealers to get them in . But its given me time to find a good cheap after marker weight up grade to the back and front shocks and spring , a good aluminum skid plate , rear rack with side frame that holds a small gas tank ,and some crash bars .
Mind sharing the upgrades and how they worked? Primarily the suspension is what I'm interested in. I'm thinking of buying one of these to follow the kids around ocotillo and the suspension is the only thing that gives me pause! Did the shock upgrades give you the performance you were hoping for? I'm just under 6' and about 215lbs
@@erichenderson7324 I keep checking with the Chattanooga dealer and they still to this day haven't called me to tell he they have one come in . I gave up a month ago and went with a BMW G650gs Sertao . I'm so glad I didn't get the honda .
Love the look of the rally. How much lower does the lowering kit make this bike? The 300 LS is as high a seat height as I’m comfortable with. Brook is doing great. 🎉❤
Thanks! We've actually just sold the bike. Check out today's video. The Kouba Link drops the seat about 1.7 inches. Brooke is 5'7" and it was still fairly tall for her so you may want to go with the LS. It'll be lighter and less top heavy as well.
Yeah that’s about right. I would move up from the xr150L to the 300LS. IM 5’1”. It’s a challenge 😂. My husband isn’t much taller but longer legs. Still might be a stretch for him. It is a beat of a bike though. 😊
Due to the lack of trails where I live, I`m a dedicated road rider. And seeing you sweating, swearing and dropping your bike, I guess that riding on a road may not be a bad thing. However, I envy the light weight of this bike and the nice countryside.
Great review and kudos to Brook. At min 3:59 when she is standing up, it looks as if the size of the tank is a bit of an impediment. How much of a problem is it?
You are awesome 👌🏻 😃😄👍🏻 I like when speaks Directly about the fact...which I appreciate it 👍🏻 🙂... A New Subscriber , Greetings from Kingdom of Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦 🌴
I had the 250 for my spouse. Wasn’t powerful enough for the highway part of the trips so sold it. Shame as thought it would have done well but there was too much vibration at higher rpm.
If I ever get a bike it would be the Rally for all the reasons you mentioned, but if there is a bike I wish could be made, perhaps a smaller displacement Tenere 700, maybe300 or 350. I love the T7 but just a smaller, lighter version and Yamaha would clean up, I think. Of course, what makes the T7 great is that engine (great engine note!), and if it was a 300 or 350, it would be a single cylinder bike (which would be WR territory).
There are rumours of a Tenere 300 in development around the 321cc parallel twin from the Yamaha R3. The engine wouldn’t sound the same as it’s not a 270 degree crank but a 180. But I like that engine and it would be a good adv bike I think.
There is a reason why all the best enduro riders inc King God Jarvis come from a trials background. Before you can go fast, you gotta learn how to go slow. I cannot stress or recommend highly enough a trials school weekend for you and Brook. It will transform your off road riding skills. Regards, Edit, there is NO SITTING DOWN.....

I love the "Rally" model, but there are none for sale at any Arkansas Honda Dealership. Why advertise a product that cannot be bought at any price?
The riding footage is like the out take reel... Hilarious fun..
Might as well show everyone how much I suck at riding :)
I've broken plastics on the 300La. The rally scares me on $$ the plastics cost me heaps more than you think
Aftermarket should be cheaper though right?
So far I've just scratched the stickers which are easy to replace.
add her the Tusk Heated grip kit, you can add your favorite grips over them, they work great and will be welcome in Canada im sure
Yes, we're definitely going to put on heated grips soon.
How about a TW300 with full disc breaks and optional ABS.
Great video. Great bike. Can't wait to get one
hi thanks for that video i am to bye one soon do you have a flat tire ofthen tel us on a video what we shuld have when we go on a trail please thanks
Thanks for the video. I like this bike more and more.
Glad you liked it. We're not regretting the purchase.
How about Yamaha T4?
and be a single
There are rumours of a T3 being developed.
@@DifferentSpokesTV I have heard about T4 that will use the already existing parallel twin that Yamaha have.
An excellent video, I’ve subscribed 👍
Thank! Welcome aboard!
Great job, beautiful trail!
Due to the lack of trails where I live, I`m a dedicated road rider. And seeing you sweating, swearing and dropping your bike, I guess that riding on a road may not be a bad thing. However, I envy the light weight of this bike and the nice countryside.
Yeah, we're super lucky to live where we do. Dropping the bike on pavement is much more traumatic. Dumping it on dirt is a regular occurrence.
Great video - subscribed.
Great review and kudos to Brook. At min 3:59 when she is standing up, it looks as if the size of the tank is a bit of an impediment. How much of a problem is it?
You are awesome 👌🏻 😃😄👍🏻
I like when speaks Directly about the fact...which I appreciate it 👍🏻 🙂...
A New Subscriber , Greetings from Kingdom of Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦 🌴
Thank you so much 😀 Welcome to the channel!
Another 100cc I'd be interested.
You and me both! I don't know why someone just doesn't do it. The DRZ400 is old tech, bring us something new.
great video thanks mate
Tempted by the t7, just wondering how the weight is offered?
I had the 250 for my spouse. Wasn’t powerful enough for the highway part of the trips so sold it. Shame as thought it would have done well but there was too much vibration at higher rpm.
Great video, Thanks!
You go girl.👍🏻
Oh, and great music!
Have you looked at Versys 300?
Brook is a badass!
Thank you for the review. How did you lower the seat? If it's any standard lowering kit, can you please post the product link?
I would like to see you on your Stelvio again through this :-P
Pozdrowienia z Niemiec!
That would be my last video :)
They tell me I will be picking up my rally weekend after next, but I won’t be holding my breath 😭
Where are all these trails located?
There is a reason why all the best enduro riders inc King God Jarvis come from a trials background.
Before you can go fast, you gotta learn how to go slow.
I cannot stress or recommend highly enough a trials school weekend for you and Brook.
It will transform your off road riding skills.
Regards,
Edit, there is NO SITTING DOWN.....
Thanks for the info! I've been pondering taking an off road school. If not this fall then next spring.
@@DifferentSpokesTV try and find a trials school, even in the US, next best would be enduro. Forget motocross.
thanks for the info...
What do you think of yamaha making a tenere 300 using a retuned r3 motor?
Can u put alloy wheel on this bike??
How are you running power for your gps?
