Woah, the way you played the 2nd part of Daydreaming at 19:05 makes so much sense...... It's very similar to Steve Reich's Piano Phase! Ugh, I just had one of those eureka moments!!! Thanks!
Same here! The way it's played here made me realise that the origin of this crazy pattern might stem from Jonnys guitar technique on looping a simple phrase and then playing in between the notes of the loop. You can hear it on songs such as Present Tense (live), Thin Thing by The Smile and Loop by JG. The way you visualised it here makes your right hand the "loop" and your left hand the "in between notes". Eureka moment for me too, Sam!
Thanks for these tutorials, I have had my Rev2 for over a year and have hardly touched it, I never quite gelled with it before, after watching these videos I love it, thanks again 👍
In the words of Triumph the Insult Comic Dog, "you are a huge nerd!" That being said, I have no idea what most of the technical stuff you are talking about in this video means but I still enjoyed watching it.
Dude, I’m always so happy when you upload these kinds of videos. I’m a long ways away, but one day I hope to afford of these great synthesizers to play my favorite music too.
Atoms for Peace would be awesome, especially considering you have an MS-20 and Rev2 which are the primary synths used on Amok (with the 08 in place of the Rev2)
Update: thought of some more Wolf at the door Talk show host Idioteque is a sample but im sure you could try and recreate it Treefingers Codex filter Hunting bears and I might be wrong sound similar (the studio version) Myxo (bass) Sit down. Stand up.
18:54 I guess it's worth to hear your alternate cover of Daydreaming. I mean I've heard the one You've done (It's great!), but it would be also great to hear something like Pyramid Song from last year. Just an idea.
are you able to get the bass synth sound climbing up the walls through that keyboard? If so, how did you get the climbing up the walls bass sound because it sounds so much like the original!
You could definitely make a convincing Climbing bass tone on the prophet! I think the original used the Novation Bass Station. When Burne Holiday covered it, we used a MicroKorg! The basic principle is just a saw wave with a slow resonant filter envelope sweep.
@@JoeEdelmann3 Hahaha 😂 Thanks for the reply Joe, you are brilliant and your channel is amazing 🙌❤️ Looks like I'm saving up for the 8 voice Rev2 then... Will probably bombard you with questions then too
PS - Have you had much luck recreating the OG Prophet 5 EIIRP sound on the Rev2? I have one as well and I've found that patch quite hard to approximate.
Hmm... I’m not sure... obviously the dx7 is a digital FM synth, whereas the Prophet uses traditional analog subtractive synthesis. You can definitely get “Rhodes piano” type patches out of a dx7 but the workflow/filtering is not the same. Worth a shot though!
Pretty much any digital or analog polyphonic synth that has filter and amp envelopes! I think Behringer make a few Prophetish ones like the deep mind? Or you could use a plugin like those from Arturia plus a midi controller!
Hmm... the drawback of no presets is I totally forget my settings now! Haha but I’m pretty sure I just set up two saw oscillators detuned from each other with a little bit of filtering.
have you ever gotten the studio version of everything in its right place with the prophet? I was able to get it with my minilogue with this video th-cam.com/video/Pt8DdLuS-n0/w-d-xo.html but can't seem to quite get it with my prophet. Is there a reason for that?
Eric Bryan nice! I’ve played around with it a bit but haven’t gotten 100% there either on the Prophet, it’s definitely a very magical and tricky sound despite appearing simple. Small changes in the envelope and filter can have a big effect!
Angelo Santi All I Need is C G E B G D C! Myxo I don’t know off hand, I sort of just mucked about by ear till I had it! But you could take a tab of the bassline and match that!
Hi man! Very nice video! I feel like you've used a little too much of the pitch modulation in Everything is in the right place. The sound of the recorded track is way smoother and as you said more filtered. But I think your patch is great for lives, very rich and harmonic. Just wanted to point this out for starters. Keep pushing!
Giuseppe Balsano thank you! Yes, you’re right, to be clear I was going for the much more seasick and fizzy sound of the recent live version, vs the more Electric Piano-like recording tone.
Amazing video Joe! I don’t have a synth, but i a keyboard that i plug in my computer and apply some different sounds to it with Logic Pro, do you have any ideia if i can download some sort of patch so that i could have a Prophet in the program??
nicolas roque thanks man! You definitely can download Prophet plugins. The most notable of which is Arturia’s Prophet V, though it is a little pricey at $150. I believe there are some other makers of Prophet plugin sims as well, and even Logics built in “Retro Synth” is not half bad either!
@@JoeEdelmann3 Very pricey haha, i thought that these plugins would be for free. That Retro Synth is already in the program? never saw that one i think, i will definetely try to find it. Thanks for it anyways! Watching your videos is always very inspiring for me
nicolas roque yeah, plug-ins are kind of a racket haha. But Logic’s stock stuff is really awesome! Here’s a video on the basics of Retro Synth th-cam.com/video/179InHT8NZw/w-d-xo.html. Glad to hear you’re inspired! Happy music making!

omg nice nice simple tutorials, great sounds, and and and a spreadsheet... what a treat. Thanks A LOT!
You are the best thing that has happened to TH-cam.
If you made a sysex patch bank of all your Radiohead stuff we could download it would be the best thing to come out of 2020
These settings carry over to my DeepMind12 very well. Thanks

William Lecorchick 😆 guilty as charged
I followed along with these on my Prophet Rev 2. Thanks, now I know how to use it! Great tutorial.
Beautiful recreation of Daydreaming near the end

What does Thom use on Hearing Damage? It’s super dark and fat. Love it. Great videos by the way!
It’s a great question! I’m not sure but I love that sound too.
Thanks Joe. This helps a lot. Keep growing.
I can't understand, isn't the TH-cam algorythm aware of your channel? You deserve so much more views!!

Mentaculus yep! Should have some covers coming to me and Takas channels soon, and tutorials to follow!
Finally! Thank you, I love these videos
NIce work, fella! Not sure I understood half of what you said, but it sounded lovely.
This video was a big inspiration when trying to come up with a synth sound for the cover of All I Need we recorded, amazing content!
This is my new favorite channel. Thanks for making these vids man! Please consider doing another video including the butcher, amok, and the axe :)
In awe of your passion, talent and hard work!! 🤯 Thanks for so generously sharing.
Hey great video man ! Keep it up !
Thanks for doing these, Joe!

Lotus flower (bass synth)
Kid a

I bought a prophet rev2 solely because of these videos and I haven’t been able to leave my room in a full week
why must this happen Joe
On a side note, isn't All I Need's bass a fuzz bass guitar?
It’s a good question! I think it’s an analog synth on the album, but live Colin plays it on the bass guitar!
Great again. Can't wait for atom for peace
OMOMOGOMGOMGOMGOMO HE FINALLY TALKS!

Wondering if you’d be able to do a tutorial for Hearing Damage by Thom.
Thanks for these videos, you rock.
¿Can u make another pedalboard video of radiohead?
german campuzano I’m definitely planning to make more tutorials, including pedal ones!
fuck, everything in it's right place it's just one saw oscillator? :o
Thiago Costa the magic of modulation!
Thanks a lot for your tutorial videos! Can you do something about looper like how to record vocals and other instrument?
MAH MAN
Is the 16 voice Prophet Rev2 doing anything here the 8 voice couldn't?
Nope, in this case just a higher polyphony limit! 8 is still pretty much sufficient as well (unless you’ve got more than 10 fingers 😜)

whats a cheap synth to create radioheads sound?
Pretty much any digital or analog polyphonic synth that has filter and amp envelopes! I think Behringer make a few Prophetish ones like the deep mind? Or you could use a plugin like those from Arturia plus a midi controller!
Filter is waaay too open for Everything in Its Right Place. and waaaay too wobbly, the synth is warm and tight.
