  • Have you ever finished spinning some top that was space dyed and then wondered what would have happened if you had tried a different technique, or even just plied it differently? We're going to split this 8 ounces into 8 different spins. Crocheted and knitted swatches included! You can really see how these different spins affect color in the finished products.

    I live an hour from Paradise Fibers and like to stop by when I go to Spokane. They have the SWEETEST staff. I just picked up a Della Q case to house my new Electric Eel nano wheel.

    I know its kind of silly but I kept staring at the pastel skein in the background at the beginning. Its beautiful and reminds me of unicorns. I also love watching you chain ply.

    I'm same as you if I don't have a routine I dont do it lol I hate house work I'd rather just dye spin and knit crochet and weave lol. I'm so glad you did this as I struggle with moving out of my comfort zone, so thank you so much for this video. Much love and big hugs to you, John Luther and donkey

    Thank you for taking the time to do this Trish! It was very interesting to see how each turned out with the different techniques. I did a similar study once with a fiber spun three different ways and each skein looked somewhat different, it was fun to see! I’ll look forward to the next study. Which I realize already may be out since I’m a few weeks behind lol

    The colour way spins up really beautifully. Thanks for showing us both knitted and crochet samples. Personally I prefer the samples from the yarns that were spun without being split.

    You make the chain plying look so easy!! And even with one of your cute puppies in your lap! 😊 My lil Yorkie wants to sit in my lap when I’m spinning but I have to concentrate to much right now.

    I am always amazed at the outcome of colorways. I looked at that 8 ounce of fiber and thought, Yuck, who thought to put those colors together? But I loved them spun up! I just can't seem to visualize how colors will spin up. Thank you for taking the time to make this study. Very helpful.

    I love how differently each one of these came out, Trish! I loved the way the striping worked in the crochet swatches, many hand dyed yarns have such short colour sections and I loved the more gradual transitions. I would also be curious to see how the yarns worked as weaving yarns.

  • @danielleh5911

    Long time crocheter and new knitter….I’ve learned that I prefer variegated yarns in a knit fabric. I like the distribution of the colours much better. Crochet will always be my first love but this just reinforces it. I like the thin lines of colour over the chunks. So now I have to remember to split my top lengthwise when I spin next time. Thanks Trish!

    I would be interested to see the difference sinning from the fold next to these as you said it would make a big difference colour wise in the finished yarn. Your videos are what made me get into first weaving then spinning. Love them all, and appreciate all the work you put into them. Thank you from Canada where we need all the wooly stuff we can get, lol.

    I love the thicker stripes on the knit, it’s so pretty!
    I ‘m working on a fractal spin I started in July for the Tour de Fleece, sigh. I spun 1/2 the braid end to end on one bobbin and split the other half into 3rds and spinning them end to end, making sure the color repeats are in the same order, on the 2nd bobbin, like yours they’ll just be shorter. I’m on the last 3rd, then I can ply. Wish mine went as fast as it looks like yours does, oh the beauty of filming ;p. I’m looking forward to finishing this one as I have another deep stash fiber I’m pulled to spin!

    New subbie, here! What a great experiment. I am also very taken with how the resulting yarns look so much more subtle and toned down that the top. Surely due to the colors mixing, of course. I have a number of dyed tops I had dyed a few years back, and I am excited to try this experiment with them, as they turned out brighter than I thought they would when I dyed them, and I felt they would look too circus-y for my taste as garments…your experiment has me thinking perhaps they will be ok! Thank you for sharing this!

    • @FiberLoveDiary
      @FiberLoveDiary  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Welcome! I didn't really say it, but I think the way they were toned down was due to the dark red and dark greenish blue that was dyed in large sections. It seemed to blend with the brighter colors and tone them way down.
