    Crazy how pretty of a color that blended into isn't it? I've even unrolled it off the dowels when I took it off the board, then rolled it sideways like you did on the hand carders, then pulled that into a sliver type roving. I like dizzing it off the hand carders too the way you would off the combs. I hadn't had my board out for awhile but a wild hair to get out my bag of mill ends and blend some of it. I'll post in group soon.

    this was so helpful!! thank you! I've wondered about the differences because I'm just currently learning with hand carders, have always wondered about combs, and want to get a blending board eventually (though so many people tell me just to save up for a drum carder instead, idk)

    Thank you Trish! Question about hackle blending... Would that be similar to the blending board on the lines of load, pull out\off, load again til blended? I've seen Paradise Fibers load a double row hackle then diz it off for a combed top roving making the multi-color strips instead of actual blending.

    • @FiberLoveDiary
      @FiberLoveDiary  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can use a hackle that way, or you can come off it like I did to blend further

  • @lizatraut

    Thank you for your video, for some reason I find them so much easier to watch than a few others. Yours seem to be my go-to on this new adventure of spinning, dyeing and prepping raw fibre. I have purchased a nano and washed my first fleece. I have come to the place where I release dog brushes are taking far too long and I need to buy hand carders. Could you please give advice when it comes to the TPI. If merino and angora (goat) is what I'm able to purchase where I live- which hand carder do you purchase 72tpi or 108tpi? small or standard-size carder to start with? Thank you for any advice

    • @FiberLoveDiary
      @FiberLoveDiary  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would advise you to buy the biggest carder or handcards you can afford comfortably. 72 or 90 tpi are nice middle of the road numbers. Merino can be tricky in a drumcarder if it's very fine. But if you go slowly, it will help

  • @tronald42

    As a total newbie I have a question that may sound stupid.
    I have never tried spinning, and I'm not sure I would like it. But I'm pretty darn sure I would love blending colors, using any of these methods or any others! I love messing with colors etc. My worry is that if I had fun blending colors into cool rolags or something... then what? Even if I did spin it... then what? I totally dislike knitting.
    So I guess my question is: For someone who ONLY wants to do the parts shown in this video, is there a need in the community for this skill? Or is this everyone's favorite part and nobody would want to use someone else's blends?
    I would like to think my work could be part of something more than just sitting in a box after I enjoyed carding/blending it. I would have to sell it though, because I have to make back at least the cost of the fiber, or else I can't afford to keep doing it. Does this sound desirable or would I have a hard time fitting in?

    • @FiberLoveDiary
      @FiberLoveDiary  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only answer is, it depends. It depends on your skill level, your skills in social media and desire to run a shop online or otherwise, take photos, get your items into a brick and mortar shop, etc.
