The Chola dynasty of south india had good trading relations with eastern china. That would explain the temples and artifacts. Didn't realize it spread that far.

The spider and elephant worshiping lord Shiva is some how connected to "Sri Kaalahasthi". The name Srikaalahasthi it self denotes three animals who got the mukthi by worshiping Lord Shiva. Here Sri = Spider, Kaala = Snake and Hasthi means elephant. The story to prove mukthi can be attained by even animals and not just humans. This also brings the idea of Hinduism every life is equal.
sri = respect, kala = time, hasthi= elephant . its temple where spider, elephant worship shiva to cleanse their doosha of rahu / ketu = sins of snake

Not true. Buddha was not an avatar. His birth was a Karmic birth. In other words, he had reincarnations before becoming "buddha". But avatars are incarnations or non karmic births.

I think you should really need to understand how to define a person with Tamil, Indian and Hindu.
Tamil is linguistic identity
Indian is a national identity
Hindu is a religious identity (though Hindu originally a geographical identity, which includes southern parts of India).
And all these identity can fit a person who lives in India, speaks and follows Tamil culture and follows Hinduism (Shaivism is a branch of Hinduism).

True.there are five elements worshipped by tamils. Kalahasti was one among them.The other four are in TN. Both thirupathi and kalahasthi were once in tamil nadu.
