Since China lifted its strict Covid control measures in December 2022, Buddhist and Taoist temples across the country have seen a surge in the number of young visitors, who come to pray for dream school admissions and career advancements. Data from China’s biggest online travel platform Trip.com showed bookings for temple visits in February 2023 have more than tripled from the previous year, with nearly half of the bookings made by young people. The Post visited a prominent Buddhist temple in Beijing to find out the reason behind the growing popularity of temples among young people.

People seems to misunderstand what praying is, people don’t pray knowing it’s gonna 100% work. People pray cos it gives them Hope. Hope is a powerful thing if you dont have hope how can you go forward in life

A question that I have for buddhists.
Are you praying to the Creator of this world in your prayers?
If the Creator of this world decided to harm you, could anyone stop it?
If no one can't stop it, except for the Creator of the world, then wouldn't you pray to the Creator alone for help?
Wouldn't it be worthless to invoke others besides the Creator when they can't benefit you if your Creator decided to harm you?

    • @Ibn_Abdulaziz
      @Ibn_Abdulaziz ปีที่แล้ว

      Allah سبحانه وتعالى said,
      وَلَئِن سَأَلْتَهُم مَّنْ خَلَقَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ لَيَقُولُنَّ اللَّهُ ۚ قُلْ أَفَرَأَيْتُم مَّا تَدْعُونَ مِن دُونِ اللَّهِ إِنْ أَرَادَنِيَ اللَّهُ بِضُرٍّ هَلْ هُنَّ كَاشِفَاتُ ضُرِّهِ أَوْ أَرَادَنِي بِرَحْمَةٍ هَلْ هُنَّ مُمْسِكَاتُ رَحْمَتِهِ ۚ قُلْ حَسْبِيَ اللَّهُ ۖ عَلَيْهِ يَتَوَكَّلُ الْمُتَوَكِّلُونَ
And verily if you ask them: "Who created the heavens and the earth?" They will surely say: "Allah (has created them)." Say: "Then tell me about the things that you invoke besides Allah - if Allah intended some harm for me, could they remove His harm? Or if He (Allah) intended some mercy for me, could they withhold His Mercy?" Say: "Sufficient for me is Allah; in Him those who trust (i.e. believers) must put their trust." [Az-Zumar 39:38]
And when harm touches you upon the sea, those that you call upon vanish from you except Him. But when He brings you safe to land, you turn away (from Him). And man is ever an ingrate disbeliever. [Al-Israa' 17:67]
Nay! But they say: "We found our fathers following a certain way and religion, and we guide ourselves by their footsteps."
And similarly We sent not a warner before you (O Muhammad ﷺ) to any town (people) except that the luxurious ones among them said: "We found our fathers following a certain way and religion, and we will indeed follow their footsteps Imitating."
(The warner) said: "Even if I bring you a better guidance than that which you found your fathers following?" They said: "Verily, we are of that with which you have been sent, disbelievers." [Az-Zukhruf 43:22-24]
If you invoke them, they hear not your call; and if (in case) they were to hear, they could not grant it (your request) to you. And on the Day of Resurrection, they will disown your worshipping them. And none can inform you like Him who is the All-Knower (of everything). [Faatir 35:14]

It is important to acknowledge and respect the origins of different religions, but it should not be a source of pride or superiority complex. Just like Christianity is followed by half of the population of Earth, but Christians don't claim superiority over others, similarly, every religion should be respected without any sense of entitlement or ownership.
As an Indian, it is a request to all my brothers and sisters to avoid the attitude of claiming credit for the origin of any religion. Instead, let us focus on practicing the basic teachings of our respective religions and spreading love and kindness to everyone around us.
For reference, you can read the Shree Bhagwat Gita and learn about its teachings, which emphasize the importance of selfless action and devotion to Iswar. Let us strive to be better human beings and bring peace and harmony to our society, irrespective of our religion or nationality.

The Buddhiat sages of India foresaw that Buddhism could not survive in India and sent many great teachers to spread the dharma. They saw that China would be the bedrock from which Buddhism can flourish. And so when Xuanzang (the Legendary Tang Sanzang) came, they passed on all their sacred texts to him.
After countless dynastic changes, countless calamities the Sangha in China has endured, Buddhism always flourishes once more whenever China reaches yet another Golden Age.

To avoid misunderstanding: most of young Chinese are still atheists, but many of us still have the customs to worship buddas or other Chinese gods/goddesses, and pray to be belssed with regard to our study, work, or health. Because we believe no region, the young people shown in the video go to temples only because they heard others saying that one certain temple is magical and the dream is realized after they worshiped.
If it does not work, people might never worship in this temple again, normally we would change to next temple to have a try lol. This is a period of graduation and job seeking, I have seen many Master or Phd students go to temples and pray that they can write out the paper and graduate successfully. I am told that several temples are magical, like Yonghe Palace(Beijing), Jiming Temple(in Nanjing, but people said lovers who went there would break up soon) and Lingyin Temple(Hangzhou).

Yep, it's most likely done out of hopelessness. If they were truly religious, this would likely be the *first* thing they do, but instead it was the last.
I'm assuming the mentality is: "Hey, if literally nothing else worked, there's no harm in trying this". And if that doesn't work, they move on, never stepping foot in the temple again.

They aren't trying to escape life's pressures but they are doing an effort but realizing the fruits of their effort aren't in their control but In the hands, but that of the highest power. Materialism is temporary and finite while your spiritual need is the need of every human being.

I don't know why people have pressure in their life..Think too much about salary increases. Examen. Buy home. Marriage or many other things.
Life is short. It's shorter than a blink
So please don't think too much and give yourself a hard time and try to enjoy your life 😊

Similar is the case with Hindu Temples in India. We have been the only historically non-proselytizing and non-invading religion in the world for the last 4000-5000 years, who have still upheld that stance.
Hindus were mostly athiests or agnostics with some fervent worshippers, for the last 2-3 centuries due to missionary propaganda, widespread orchestrated genocides and fervent teaching of Biblical propaganda, ricebags and other benefits in almost all schools of India. Moreover, the study of Bhagavat Geeta was not undertaken as strictly as Sunday or Friday compulsory classes in Missionary and Madrasah schools ,even now. It was so bad that a Hindu could atleast recite some verses of the Quran or the Bible, but not his own book.
However, i have read in a reputed newspaper that the newer Hindu generation is surprisingly also growing more religious and there has been always a surge in temple visits after Covid and even before the last 2 years. Moreover, many Hindus are also taking part in the religious and cultural historical activities organized in the temples and learning the Hindu arts, while rejecting western and middle-eastern influences like Dowries, Veiling etc more.
Sometimes, I feel we Hindus need not be so fervent and obstinate, it wouldn't make us any different from millions of Muslims or Christians and nobody wants more religiously-driven people carrying out massacres, although Hindu-Buddhists are the least probable to do it "globally". Also because of the non-existence of Apostasy/excommunication laws in Hinduism, the athiests, LGBTQ ,ex-muslims and ex-christians have also started supporting this move surprisingly. These aforesaid groups are getting married in Hindu Temples and claim to follow Hinduism, mostly from Kerala, Maharashtra and some other states, it's a popular joke among Hindus in our locality.
At the same time, Athiesm is also rising in India, which is also great. I am all in for Athiesm too.

I pray and recite the sutras as it gives me a sense of comfort. I also have some wishes which have yet to be fulfilled. I don't think the 'magic' happens overnight but requires long term patience and determination for spiritual cultivation.
