  • The United States Marine Corps West Coast Composite Band performing at the 128th Pasadena Tournament of Roses Parade on Monday, January 1, 2017. This composite group brings three Marine Bands together from around Southern California. The band members are fully combat-trained and prove that they are as proficient with their musical instruments as they are with their weaponry. Many of these these fine service members have completed tours in Iraq and/or Afghanistan.
    00:10 - Warm up
01:02 - Eternal Father Strong to Save

My high school band was the next band in the line of march following the Marine Corps Band for the January 1963, Rose Parade. The actual parade route is a little over five miles but bands must first march down the assembly area anywhere up to an additional two miles just to get to the parade route. By the time we marched into the parking lot at the end we were exhausted. The Marine Band was also in the same parking lot. SO here are a bunch of high school kids ready to fall over and the Marines looked as fresh as when they stepped off. Our band director a former Marine bandsman himself couldn't help himself and kept pointing out how easy the Marine Band had made it look. Of course I joined the Marine Corps a year later. Not the band but I wanted to put out that much effort and make it all look so dang easy. Semper fi and the Marine Bands are the best.

Excellent video. I especially enjoyed the warm-up portion where they played "Eternal Father" and Semper Fidelis. It's also great to hear them play the Marine Corps Hymn while marching, with the piccolos soaring high above the band.

My great grandson Ian Patterson. Son of Wendy Reinking Patterson and husband Jim is a member of this band. He plays saxaphone and is the tallest member of the band. We are so very proud of him

The best part of the Rose Parade!!! Could you also, if you can, catch the turn the band makes at Colorado Blvd? I love how the USMC takes that bend. Thanks!

Hey Kevin. Not until you mentioned it, I did not know what that was, so I googled it. It's a great thought but maybe at a later time. Right now, I'm good with how I have it, just sharing content that I capture for all to see and enjoy. Thanks again!
