My father was a Marine. Respect was taught very early. I'm amazed at so many young people who don't stand or remove their hats for the anthem. I'm amazed that at many public events people actually need to TOLD to remove their hats. Once a Marine , always a Marine. The only thing my father loved more than being a Marine was our mother and us kids. Thank You for posting this video. And Thank You to all of you out there that know what respect and honor are. This worlds going to hell and a handbag but there are still people out there that can be counted on to do what's right.

Every member of unit bands like this are qualified riflemen, but the Marine Corps Band consist of only professional musicians, they are not Marines as designated by the lyre symbol on their chevron and the split stripe on their blue trousers.
Aye, it's sad that modern society doesn't give military personnel the respect they deserve anymore. There are also less 'Thank you for your service' statements nowadays, but it's the society we live in.
When I joined 4th grade band as a drummer, the first thing our instructor taught us was a medley of Anchors Aweigh, The Marines Hymn and Caissons Go Rolling Along. Played it with pride. Instructor was a WW2 Vet. I always remember how I banged that piece out with authority and precision. He knew I got it. Can still play it like he taught me 36 years later. Love it! USA!

It might seem kind of lame, but the small stride is a result of the common marine corps practice of minimizing vertical movement while marching. The idea is that, when closing the distance of the target, the less vertical distance, the less likely the chance your rifle will bob up and down. Every marine corps custom/courtesy has a meaning.
Charlielyons crsay good choice for your information it is called the delayed entry program it allows you to finish HS, and have a better chance to get ahead while in the corps and prevent a failing in s future outcome of your choices. During the 4th of July parade in the small town I come from, we stand when the flag passes AND when the Ft. Riley troops come by. It is disgraceful that people didn't stand when the flag passed by.

I can't imagine why you lot don't celebrate your national day with a big parade. Every other country does. You have the biggest military in the world. Be proud of it.
Large military parades aren't part of the US tradition. As a matter of fact it's been US tradition not to have active military units marching through cities, except for a few special events. So when it does happen, it's a treat.

***** Yes, I agree. I was speaking generically - all bands. I volunteered with the Rose Parade for a dozen years. There are (at least were when I was there) "sag wagons" - actually extended length shuttle vans - for band members every half mile from the 3 mile point onwards.
I cant wait to sign up when im in my 20s :) I wanted to join since I was 3... another 10-13 years and I'll hope I'll be there. Always wanted to serve my country :) just gotta get my parents to agree at first though....

I am double proud! I became a U.S. citizen when I was promoted to corporal in the Marines, 1975. Never been prouder.
