      Yeah, I don't get it. If it's 90+ degrees don't go hiking in the desert. If there is torrential rain, don't go to the edge of a rising river. If it's in the middle of a winter snow storm, don't go hiking in the sierras. Every year people do those things, and every year people die. I'm sorry for them, but is like they've lost all common sense and survival instinct.

      What's even dumber is that they're in Utah, you can go up into the mountains where it's 50 degrees. WHY would you hike in the desert in the hot summer? Anyone with common sense in the western US knows you go up in elevation during the summer if you want to hike... hike down in the desert in the fall or winter.

    Seeing people take unnecessary risks with their lives like these folks did is upsetting enough. But it's horrifying when you hear about young children dying because their "parents" exposed them to dangerously high temperatures. A 4-month-old infant died of heatstroke when she was taken out on a boat by her parents on July 4th weekend. The temps in Lake Havasu region reached 118 degrees that day. A 10- year-old boy died on July 2 while hiking with his father in AZ, when the temp was 113 degrees. What is wrong with these people??
    The baby's parents actually collected almost fifty grand in a GoFundMe solicitation, on which they posted a photo of themselves holding the deceased infant. Seriously??

    • @jadesterbaby
      @jadesterbaby หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@evening6402 wait a minute, wait a minute. Do you mean the photo was of the parents and child like, a picture taken previously, before the child’s passing? Or do you literally mean a photo of the parents holding the deceased child, after death??

    • @evening6402
      @evening6402 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @jadesterbaby, it was a photo taken postmortem in the hospital. The baby was completely covered by a blanket, and the parents, who were understandably upset, were holding her. But, given the circumstances of the child's illness and death, I was offended by the solicitation of funds that were supposedly meant to help the baby's parents recover from the trauma of her death, and it was even more egregious that they used that photo.

    People are right in the comments, there is no excuse not to carry water.
    I worry about this and my kids are probably sick of me.
    I have a bunch of kids, teens and young single adults. I keep warning them almost daily to always carry extra water and not to rely on cell phones for coms. We recently did an activity that required hiking and I made sure there were enough 2-way radios to go around.
    Here in Utah, this is the time of year to enjoy our higher mountains and canyons, that are much cooler and most have water you could use in a pinch. Save our lower and southern wilderness for fall and spring.
    If you just have to go explore the hotter dessert, take your water, radio or sat coms and binge watch TH-cam videos on desert survival.
    I don't know for certain but I would bet more people die here from heat than lightning yet we tend to respect lightning more than our heatwaves.

    • @Bones469
      @Bones469 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@TheQueensWish I was just sharing my thoughts as a father of 5 adventurous kids and being one that likes to go out myself.
      Water is life and even a quart buys time for people to find you. I take extra water just hiking up into the hills by my house, a place I know very well. What if I get up there and twist an ankle or something?
      Again my real recommendation would be for people to put a little fanny pack or camel pack together. Basic stuff, a fire starter, signal mirror and radio coms. There are so many others carrying the cheap FRS/GMRS radios now, chances are you could reach somebody. Or better yet if you are really into it, pick up a cheap satellite coms system like the Bivy-Stick.
      There is nothing that can be done for what has already happened but maybe, just maybe someone will read these comments and next time they want to go out they might think to themselves, "I remember that kook on the Internet saying I should be a little prepared... Might not be a bad idea..."
      There have been so many of these this year all over the Mojave Desert and Arizona. It doesn't hurt to refresh our dessert survival skills a little. Information is power and education saves lives.

    For a lot of Americans, if you don't understand heat or been taught about hot and cold weather dangers and how to diagnose them then how would she know anything. Additionally, if she has never hiked or does not have any experience hiking she again would not know how to calculate how much water to take. Lastly, if she did not know specifics about the region she was in and how the hot and cold impacts you, there again she wouldn't know what to do. Heat in Florida is fastly different than the heat in say Utah or Arizona. Not necessarily her fault if she didn't know the dangers. Sounds like a tragic accident. Easy to sit back and be the Monday morning quarterback if you know the dangers. Sounds like this poor woman had no clue.
