The current Corrie is very stage like. Salon always has one or no clients. Never a hairdryer on the go. Pub with no more than ten people inside. Two customers max in the shop. No background noise or chatter anywhere. So unrealistic and not enough to keep any business running. These Classic Corries are so much better with more enjoyable characters too. Thanks Eve ❤

Thanks Eve, for taking the time & effort to put these up - made my X'mas !
I often hear talk about, _a lack of female role models on TV_ - but classic Corrie was full of them.
I'm a bloke, but grew up admiring & respecting the strong women of The Street far more than any of the male characters: they taught me to be straight talking when needed, to keep my counsel and to hold onto my sense of humour - even in adversity.
Those of us who were lucky enough to grow up in the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's owe an awful lot to Hilda (Ogden), Bet (Lynch/Gilroy) and Rita (Fairclough/Sullivan) - my 3 favs.
    Happy New Year !

You’re very welcome Sean, I’m glad you’re enjoying watching these oldies.. hard to believe it’s thirty odd years ago now, where did the time go! You’re right about the strong women of the street though as of course originally as Tony Warren put it - it was based around 3 strong women… the ultimate snob (Annie Walker), the tart with a heart (Elsie Tanner) and the devil incarnate (Ena Sharples). I don’t think any characters they came afterwards made the impact that those 3 did, except possibly the lady in my thumbnail picture.. Elizabeth Theresa Lynch, she just grew and grew as the show went on. Thanks for your nice comments!

I was a little bit too young to fully appreciate Mrs. Walker, Elsie and Ena. By the time I was truly bitten by the Corrie bug (mid 70's) they were already entering their twilight years. I do remember them all, but it was the dry Northen wit and twinkle in the eye of Hilda, Bet & Rita that made them stand out for me.
Your uploads are especially precious for me.
I left the UK in 1989 so I am now seeing for the very first time everything that I missed. As I get deeper into the 90's I know that I am coming to the end of the Golden Years. Quality rather than quantity was what made Coronation Street special, and going head to head against Eastenders was an unfortunate though, perhaps, inevitable battle. Like so many things in this life, the lurch from the analogue world into the digital era did not ncessarily herald a better dawn.
Huge thanks again for making it possible for me to take a little trip down the cobbled street.

Oh you’re very welcome Sean once again, I’m too young to remember those 3 ladies I mentioned too.. BUT thanks to TH-cam I have seen that late 70s period you talk about - which to me is probably the best Corrie era (when Bill Podmore took over in 1976 he added the comedy.. which was so brilliant, it stands the test of time). I just carried on from ‘89 onwards as people were asking for it but yes you do get the impression the quality is gradually diminishing… I’ve reached ‘97 now myself, it’s not great to be honest BUT there was plenty of fun on the way! Anyway.. thanks again for your kind words! Really appreciate it! 😉

I heard an interview with Brian Hibbard at the time of Corrie's 50th anniversary in late 2010 (he died 18 months after that in June 2012). He more or less said that he never intended to stay any longer than the 12 months he was contracted to stay (and I think he let the producer know this) and the way the storyline was going I suppose they must have decided to write him out 4 months early and by the way he sounded in this interview he was happy with that.

Ivy and Vera are absolutely certain that their jobs, revolve around their personal lives.
They come and go as they please, depending on what's going on in their personal lives, and expect their jobs to be there when they deign to return.
And when they are actually on the job, they spend half their time gassing, never taking into consideration how low the demand is for hags of their age and skill level. But, when questioned about their unwillingness to live up to their end of the terms of employment, they're incredulous and/or righteously indignant.

Loved many more people in the beginning, but as of now I only really like Rita and Bet. All the other women are daft, and the men lying and scheming. Curly might turn out all right, and love Kevin and Martin. All the Duckworths are sad substitutes for Hilda and Stan. Audrey , Mavis, Vera, and Ivy are all around the bend, and always have been.

People really are missing the point of view of Ted's family. To begin, I am someone who despises anyone looking to gain from an apparent loved ones death. However, Ted's family seemed very nice up until they realised they were not notified of Ted's health yet shop assistants and gold diggers to shop assistants were informed. I think that's the point they became incensed (with good reason imo) the money situation is now less about financial gain but more the hurt and betrayal of being family that were deemed below strangers to be informed of his health.
