I really like Hongqi's design language in general. Its not like other Chinese EVs which some of them could be a bit generic or GTA like. Hongqi actually makes some immediately recognizable impression on the audience and I think that is great for the brand image.

My dad owned his first Mercedes S500 in 2003, since then my family bought quite some German made vehicles, until last year I found the brand NIO, which is Chinese owned, very efficient and with an affordable price, so I bought the NIO ES8, a quite nice electronic SUV, simple and good looking exterior and interior, since that my family was determined to buy Chinese brands. Incidentally the reason a lot of their cars have Western "touches" is because they can copy them without fear of being prosecuted for copyright issues. While strictly speaking it's illegal, they get away with it because you can only take them to court in China if you're based there. This is a deliberate rule by the Chinese government because they know that it helps their economy, hence the reason there are not only fake products everywhere, such as the iPhone, but even fake stores like the "Apple" stores kitted out exactly like the original Apple stores in the US. It's claimed that there are actually more fake Yamaha motorcycles in China than there are real ones.

The Golden Sunflower series cars are not for rich people, but for elites with money. People who want to buy them are subject to a vetting process. For due diligence and background check to be passed, it usually means potential buys have good track records and reputable public image. People who bought those Hongqi cars can't sell them to a 3rd party either. After all, those cars are for top Chinese government officials and visiting presidents of other countries. For example, French president Macron rode Hongqi L5 when he visited China.

After years of economic espionage in Germany, cooperation with Mercedes, BMW, VW and co., whereby the Chinese have acquired a lot of western knowledge, you can now see the result. Chinese cars are an optical mix of different German car brands because they could and still can develop and build something independently. Currently, the Chinese state propaganda is badmouthing Western car brands and giving generous gifts and discounts to the population if they only buy Chinese brands. So this isn't competition, it's total manipulation of the car market, so foreign brands automatically have a much harder time selling cars. In addition, the Chinese government tells the population that they drive so cleanly with electric cars, but forgets to tell them that 70 to 80 percent of the electricity is coal, and up to 50 new coal-fired power plants are currently being built.
