To prevent mold let the door and drawer that holds the detergent, bleach and softener stay slightly ajar for a few. Then close it. When you’ve finished washing all your clothes. Pour the residual water out of the drawer between washes. Wipe the inside of the rubber on the dyer and wipe the inner glass after each use. Once a month use one cup of distilled vinegar and let it run through with hot water. All of the above prevents it from stinking and mold buildup. I’ve been doing it for a good while. Great review. I've had both of these machines for a little over a year. They've been great with no issues (knocking on wood). I've been pretty neurotic about drying the dispenser and drying the rubber gasket after every load, and not a spot of mold on the washer. I also use the tub clean feature every month, with tablets called affresh. I really like those drawers you have. Subscribed
Aside from the rubber seal inside the washer, I haven’t had any problems. I had a technician to come out and replace the gasket and he made me aware that if you pull the clothes out the wrong way, the gasket will start to chip and the chip will lead to leaking when the washer is in use. When I want to do a quick tub clean, the technician advised that I use cleaning vinegar or maybe even bleach but more so vinegar. Thanks.

Thanks for the detailed review. Considering getting this pair today and curious to hear how they've held up for you. also, for the splitter hose that sends water to washer and dryer (steam), did the dryer come with that accessory or is that a separate purchase?
They’re holding up pretty good so far. Every 3-6 months I do a tub clean with vinegar and I clean out the dryer vent with a can of compressed air. As for the splitter hose, I don’t believe it comes with the hoses but it does come with the splitter. This specific model does come with the steam feature.
There’s 3 different models of this washer and at first glance they all look the same until you look closely at the features. That’s being said. Make sure you’re getting the one that best fits your needs.
Great video. My 4 year old electrolux 5 series washer ring leaks on floor and fills my pedestal with water. My matching dryer motor and mother board fried yesterday. $3k down the tube. Looking at this unit, GE's front load with ventfresh or a electrolux 6 series
I use to sell washers and dryers years ago. Electrolux is only a more expensive GE (General electric) and Frigidaire model, they’re the same company . There isn’t any longevity in neither brand. I kid you not. I would have store owners buy from me. They would buy everything but GE, Friggidaire, Electrolux. LG, Kenmore, Whirlpool, KitchenAide are the brands you want to stick with when it comes to appliances.
Have you had trouble with Steam Fresh? My clothes come out half dry and half soaked in random blotches. It’s almost like it was in the middle of spraying water and auto stops.
Reliability depends on whose numbers you believe! I don't trust sites like Consumer Reports or Wall Street Journal when it comes to reviews. Big money can buy a nice review. I like to listen to the words of people who could actually lose money if they endorse something that is crap! A retail store that sells its own service contracts executed by its service department (NOT outsourced) is going to make less money every time it has to service a machine under that contract. Its much more profitable for them to sell a reliable brand and just pocket your extended warranty money. Also if a local store does not honor its service contract (executed by their service department), its a lot easier to take them to small claims court or get the local TV station interested in doing a story about that local business. And yes I DO have personal experience with that. Its funny how fast a business will fix your problem when they find out you are going to be featured by the local news station in a negative story about them and they can't blame a third party! Check out the video from Yale Appliances in Boston. th-cam.com/video/XE-5JlgOsDM/w-d-xo.html According to Yale, if you want the most reliable machines, go with LG. According to Yale, if you want to have the best experience from the manufacturer if you do have an issue, then go with GE or Whirlpool. Watch the video to the end and download their Free Buying Guide, then scroll down to Best Front Load Washers. According to Yale, they are servicing the LG's at a 2.1% first year rate and the GE's at a 6.4%! (I don't believe 2.1%, but I can believe 6%.) Again according to Yale, the biggest problems with the WM4000's are (1) they lack an automatic dispenser, (2) the washer door is not reversible, and (3) LG lacks the mold control package. According to the salesman who sold me our WM4000 (at an appliance store in Torrance, California) the biggest problems with the WM4000's are (4) drain pump failures and (5) the computer control boards. (1) The lack of an automatic dispenser is only a problem if you are a person who cannot get over the urge to use too much detergent!! (2) The inability to reverse the door is a problem you should have thought about before buying the machine. (3) It takes 24 hours of dampness to grow mold. If you have mold on your gaskets, that means that for at least 24 hours you failed to get the gasket dry. (4) The drain pump failure is a legitimate hassle. But here's the thing. LG tells its customers to drain the drain pump and clean its filter once a month. I have YET to meet anyone who does that!! Whenever I would go to the box stores and ask people who owned a LG front loader about their machines, most of them would say they didn't even know HOW to drain and clean the filter. So yeah, the pump is a cheap $50 pump and its probably crap. But that's all the more reason to keep the pump clean and don't stress it out by letting it build up with gunk!!! Admission, I got my machine on February 18, I drained and cleaned the filter on April 18, I'm going to do it every other month. (5) The computer control board is another legit hassle. But its probably the only hassle that is never the customers fault! Oh, and according to the salesman who sold me the WM4000, he buys Electrolux. Why? He said he manages an apartment complex, and according to him the Electrolux's can take a beating the the LG's cant. Since I don't plan on abusing my machine, I should be good with LG!!
How are you liking the machines. I just ordered this dryer in white. I plan to order the washer later as I'm buying Christmas gifts now and wanted to save money. I needed a dryer, though my dryer decided to quit after 15 years.
Thanks for great detail! Just got ours yesterday. Already did 5 loads (our old washer & dryer broke few days ago so need to catch up). The LQ ThinQ does have an odor. Do you know how long that lasts? Also I thought the washer had a blue light when we first turned it on, but now it’s not on. Do you know how to turn it on? I fixed the dryer light & turned it on but can’t figure out washer. Thanks so much!
Hi, glad you enjoyed the review. I’m not sure about the odor you have but you can pick up some tide washing machine cleaner from Walmart, or just simply use a cap full of bleach. Also make sure you’re leaving the door cracked in between cycles. The higher end of this model does have a light in the washer but the middle and lower end models do not so unfortunately I can’t inform you on that. . From what I’ve seen before, that light can be replaced.
thank you for video deciding which to buy but have set my thoughts on lg now either top or front load i just get nervous with the lack of water in the front load i like nice clean clean rinse or i just dont feel its clean and rinsed enough could you do a video on wash and rinses this was a great video thank you
We've had this same model washer in our home for the past 3 months. I had to convince family members about the lack of water use as well! My standard settings these days are as follows... "Tide Pods (Original Scent) + Permanent Press+ Cold Water+ Lo Spin + Normal Soil + Turbowash + 1 Extra Rinse". Tide Pods: I wanted to go "environmentally friendly" with some of the 100% natural pods. OK, I didn't try every single maker. I did try 3 different natural pods, and they all sucked. Arm and Hammer pods work well. But if you have someone in your family who will complain if there is no scent in the clothes when they are done, then Gain "Flings" pods and Tide pods work. Permanent Press: Some of these cycles like "Heavy Duty" are RIDICULOUSLY long. This machine once quoted me 2 hours! Permanent Press has never quoted me longer than 1:04 and has never failed to get whatever I put in it clean. I wash bedding, whites, rugs, everything in Permanent Press. I had a vibration issue when we first got the machine. Get yourself a leveling tool ($10 on Amazon), put it on the machine in the center just above the cycle selector so you will see it every day you begin your wash. Make SURE that bubble is between the two vertical lines on the leveling tool, ESPECIALLY if the washer on a pedestal. Get yourself some neoprene anti vibration pads (again about $12 on Amazon), 1/8 inch thick. DON'T get the 1 inch high thick ones, you don't want to raise the center of gravity any higher than necessary. The higher the center of gravity and the higher the weight of clothes in the machine, the more it will vibrate, ESPECIALLY if its not level! For MY situation, I have found that if I select Permanent Press, let the machine weigh the clothes to give me an estimate and it tells me anything under 40 minutes, then there isn't enough weight in the washer to make it vibrate enough for me to worry about. But if the washer tells me over 45 minutes, then it might have enough weigh in the clothes to make it vibrate more than I am comfortable with (but I am a worry wort, everybody tells me so). If the machine tells me any number over 42 minutes, I will remove some items from the washer until it gives me a time under 40 minutes. Cold Water: It is my understanding that most detergent actually performs better in the 45 degree to 60 degree range. Lo Spin: Our machine is on a pedestal, which is on a tile/vinyl type floor, in a very old house. If I had a concrete floor and no pedestal, I wouldn't worry at all about spin speed. But this machine gets the clothes so dry even on the low spin that I don't see any real benefit of going with hi spin anyway. Normal Soil: Using heavy soil hasn't made my clothes any cleaner (that I could see). Anything higher than Normal Soil seems to just add more time and not make the clothes any cleaner. Turbo Wash: Turn it on and the washer will lower its time estimate by about 6 minutes. Extra Rinse: I always use the (1) "Extra Rinse" option. Its important to get all of the detergent out. This model uses so little water AND only offer cold water rinses, so I think 1 Extra rinse is the way to go.
Seems like you’re able to customize any wash cycle just by selecting the cycle, then on the right adjusting the various options: temp, soil, spin, rinse, whatever…Correct me if I’m wrong. I know some cycles will have some settings locked, but generally there’s enough cycles/settings that you should be able to find the combo u need.
The Downloaded and also knob settings aren’t 100% customizable. For example, Heavy duty might already be preset to “hot” , on certain fabrics I prefer cold so that the color doesn’t fade.
Yeah I get that. I mentioned that’s probably the case. I just meant that with the amount of cycles and the settings you can customize, you should be able to find a cycle that works for your needs.
My wife and I love them. The fact that the washer gets the water off of the clothes so well that we have to question if they’re dry or did we wash the is good enough for me.
Hey there! Quick question. So we just got this set today and I started washing but there was so much excess water on the plastic ring surrounding the drum? Also the detergent dispenser has a lot of water. Does your washer do that too? If yes do you just leave the doors open? Do you have any odor issues with the washing Maschine? I really would appreciate your feedback. Thank you in advance!
Normally the water should drain off from the ring surrounding the drum. Excess water just as well as the detergent should also drain off into the drum. Mine does not do this. I leave the door on my washer cracked after every cycle so that the moisture can escape and won’t cause an odor. Try pulling back the rubber ring towards the bottom of the drum. There should be a small hole for the water to drain. Also Make sure there’s nothing blocking that hole.
We typically use “Normal” for washing clothes and the dryer picks the best drying cycle based off the washing cycle which is normally “Normal”. If you wash “bedding” the dryer will automatically choose bedding for the drying cycle, and so-on
Today I am getting rid of my LG washer , 👏👏👏 nothing but problems. I had to front loader washers . Leaking and now the drain pump so going to a different brand.
I’m sorry for your inconvenience. I would suggest getting coverage on them when buying them new that way anything that needs to be fixed will be on the insurance.
Not at all. If you bought yours brand new, make sure you removed the bolt from the back of the washer. The bolts have a white plastic piece attached to them. Also adjust the legs at the very bottom. They screw out and in to level the unit.
@@monicalira1034I fought a vibration problem with this model for about a month. Solution: Black Neoprene Foam Anti Vibration Pads, Rubber Padding with Adhesive Backing, 6 in X 6 in X 1/8 in Rubber Insulation Anti-Vibration Pads (from Amazon for $12.99) AND Empire Level EM81.9G 9 Inch Magnetic Torpedo Level w/Overhead Viewing Slot (Made in USA), Silver/White/Blue (from Amazon $8.90). Put the leveling tool on the machine just above the cycle selector and determine which leg needs to be raised. Slip a Anti Vibration Pad under that leg and recheck the level. Repeat until level. This solved 90% of my vibration issue. My machine is on a pedestal (the quality of which I'm not totally convinced is all that great) and on a tile/vinyl floor. Ideal conditions would be a directly on a concrete floor. We do washing on Saturday and before that first Saturday load, I recheck the level. It could be the floor has a little sag in it, it could be the pedestal (which looks to me to be made from sheet metal) has a little bit of a "flex" to it under load and is not as sturdy as LG would like me to believe, it could be one of the legs on the washer (or the pedestal) is not quite locked. Just recheck the level before every wash day. And I try to limit the weight of the clothes in the machine to 10lbs and the spin speed to low. Heavy wet clothes, spinning real fast, is just asking the laws of physics to show up and make the machine vibrate (especially if its on a pedestal).
The washer is excellent in my opinion when it comes to bedding. We have a dog we let in the house occasionally. When his hair sheds it gets everywhere. But I’ve never had a hair left behind on the bedding after washer it.
Yes it does have a filter for the pump and any water drained out of the unit. It is located near the bottom/ left side of the washer right below the door. Push the tab down and pull back to open the door. There’s a spherical shape know that unscrews, that is the filter.
Very helpful review. I appreciate the detail and information given. This is the model I decided to buy and I came to TH-cam to see it in action. On a side note... I'm curious about the white can between the washer and dryer. Is that a trash can or storage container? Was it made to fit between a washer and dryer? Thanks so much for sharing this information.
I’m glad I was able to make your decision worth while. The white can is actually a storage container for the dog’s food. It wasn’t made to fit between the washer and dryer, it just ended up being a perfect fit lol.
The fact there is no light can be somewhat of a blessing! My family has always had the old school top loaders, we had a Kenmore that none of us were exactly sure how old it was! Anyway, the main objection everybody had against me getting this washer was the fact the can't see the water level, therefore, according to them, there must be something wrong with it. Well, after two months, they have final learned to accept the fact that its just a little tiny puddle in there. One of the main reasons I bought this machine was the "Turbowash" jets that spray water toward the center. Its really a marketing ploy designed to shut up those people who say it isn't using enough water, it makes those people feel like its using more water. It really isn't though! If there were a light in there, you would be able to see just how little water its really using! Better that those "its not using enough water" people can't see in there!!!!
Dude…There’s a Manual dry cycle right there on the selection knob. That’s where you can setup a custom cycle. So I’m confused why you said there’s no way to program your own mode for drying.
Keyword: Manual. I was speaking more from a programmed/Downloaded setting. That way my kids wouldn’t have to manually set up each feature. It would already be preset.
Thanks for the video, have this on order at the moment and can’t wait to get them. Was there any special fittings or hoses beyond what is supplied with the set that is necessary to install?? I have both standard sockets 220/110. But in the past I bought a washer that was capable of steaming and it needed a part that I did not have upon delivery.
Do washer and dryers makes noise? Of course. TheWM4000 is LOUD. Motor sounds like a turbine. Water valves make thumps through water lines in your house. When Water inlets open and it fills with water it is loud like a fire hose. Don’t buy the LG line of washers.
Literally the most quiet machines I've ever owned. I can hear the chime signal much more easily than the machines. The water thumping issue is how your plumbing is designed and specific pressures can cause a water hammer issue. Add a 20 dollar water hammer arrestor to your cold water hose inlet at the wall and you should be good.
For the thumping in your water line, you may want to research a water hammer arrestor. I've read that installing those can resolve the water hammer sounds. Good luck!
@@AltruisticWarrior Its not water hammer, I have arresters installed. I opened the machine. It is the terrible design of the water lines and values at the top of the machine right under the cover. The opening and closing of the water intake values and the spraying is the terrible design, I'm surprised LG engineers overlooked this simple design flaw. I tried different size washing machine lines, you know, the ones designed for HE machines. That did nothing. I also changed the psi pressure to the lines that go into the machine. Not much difference. LG engineers that did not have noise as a criteria in their water valve design or water line location. All they would have had to do is put sound deadening around tubes inside the machine and use better valves.
I’m sorry to hear that. The lint trap for this particular is actually it’s normal depth. Although different style dryers have different lint trap depths.
Normal/Bright Whites/ Towels/Delicates-35-45 mins Bedding/Sanitary/Heavy Duty- 1hr The cycle times also depends on the soil level and the amount of clothes that the washer senses

My clothes come out half dry and half soaked in random blotches. It’s almost like it was in the middle of spraying water and auto stops.
I don’t really use that feature as much. But what I was told my an LG mechanic was to make that your dryer is not on energy efficient mode.
@@laqintin2 that may be it! Thank you!!
My lowes had the pedestals for $35 each so just went ahead and bought the washer and dryer set too 😂 we had been eyeing them for awhile
That’s a pretty good price
How has your set held up? Were looking at getting these soon.
Looking into this or Electrolux brand. So hard to decide. Really worried about reliability, and servicing should we need it at some point.
@@dwaynedaniels8140 ha ha ha worry wort, me too, your the best thank you
Hi I just got the same combo how do you get the steam to work
what is this compared to LG electronics graphite steel wash tower?
Thanks for the review. Does the washer have a drum light?
Unfortunately it doesn’t
What the little thing in the middle of washer Ana dryer with the animals print on them
It’s the dog’s food
Do you still like them so far? We’re eyeing on getting these!
@@laqintin2 thank you for that info. You were really helpful!!! 🙂

How do I turn on the light for the inside of the washer ?
There is no light inside the tub of the washer which they should fix.
What’s the best setting/cycle for the best wash and dry?
We typically use “Normal” for washing clothes and the dryer picks the best drying cycle based off the washing cycle which is normally “Normal”. If you wash “bedding” the dryer will automatically choose bedding for the drying cycle, and so-on
i dunno guys ive had these for a year now and the washer just doesnt clean my clothes. seems like it doesnt use enough water.
Have you tried the new GE? Great washer, but the dryer is terrible.
Are you able to wash comforters?
Yes, I can wash comforters, small and medium size pillows and sheets. (Our entire king size bed set) in 1 load.
They are still using the same lint trap system that I have in my set that is 14 years old isn’t there anything better
I do feel like the lint trap can be engineered a little better to keep from having to blow out the lint compartment as much as possible
Can you reverse both the washer and dryer doors?
Yes it is. It comes Pre drilled holes.
Does a kind size comforter fit in the washing machine?
Yes, with room for a flat sheet, fitted sheet and pillow cases
My dryer(new) the normal dry does not dry within 1 cycle. Has anyone had this problem. If I put it twice then it dries
I have this same issue. I think that’s an energy saving feature. So to speed up the drying process I set the dry level 1 above normal
Does your washing machine shake horribly on a heavy load spin cycle ?
Not at all. If you bought yours brand new, make sure you removed the bolt from the back of the washer. The bolts have a white plastic piece attached to them. Also adjust the legs at the very bottom. They screw out and in to level the unit.
@@laqintin2
I’ll have to pull it out again and adjust it. But I think the floor is not level where the washer sit at. Any suggestions ?
@@monicalira1034 start spinning those wheels at the bottom and use a leveler!
@@monicalira1034I fought a vibration problem with this model for about a month.
Solution:
Black Neoprene Foam Anti Vibration Pads, Rubber Padding with Adhesive Backing, 6 in X 6 in X 1/8 in Rubber Insulation Anti-Vibration Pads (from Amazon for $12.99) AND
Empire Level EM81.9G 9 Inch Magnetic Torpedo Level w/Overhead Viewing Slot (Made in USA), Silver/White/Blue (from Amazon $8.90).
Those door designs aren’t my favorite but I love those machines
Anyone have an issue with not bein able to pause the dryer. Tried turning machine off a breaker.
How does this washer perform when washing pet bedding? Is pet hair easily removed?
The washer is excellent in my opinion when it comes to bedding. We have a dog we let in the house occasionally. When his hair sheds it gets everywhere. But I’ve never had a hair left behind on the bedding after washer it.
Does this LG have a filter for the pump? Thank you for your review!!
Yes it does have a filter for the pump and any water drained out of the unit. It is located near the bottom/ left side of the washer right below the door. Push the tab down and pull back to open the door. There’s a spherical shape know that unscrews, that is the filter.
@@laqintin2 thank you very much! Merry Christmas!!
@@cooknwoman merry Christmas to you as well.
Is this size washing machine capable of washing a king size comforter?
Yes, it definitely is capable, with a little room to spare. (My wife and I have a king size comforters)
I wish the washer would come with an interior light, just like the dryer😊
That would be of very good to use, especially in a room with limited light
Dude…There’s a Manual dry cycle right there on the selection knob. That’s where you can setup a custom cycle. So I’m confused why you said there’s no way to program your own mode for drying.
Keyword: Manual. I was speaking more from a programmed/Downloaded setting. That way my kids wouldn’t have to manually set up each feature. It would already be preset.
Does the cycle reset after it’s been customized? Or does it return to the custom settings? Just curious.
Are you able to change the door direction/orientation on the washer?
Unfortunately that is not an option with the washer. There are not pre drilled holes on the opposing side, and the door is not made to do so.

I have both standard sockets 220/110. But in the past I bought a washer that was capable of steaming and it needed a part that I did not have upon delivery.
Since you have both plugs. I would say purchase 3 hoses. 2 for the hot/cold on the washer and 1 for the steam feature on the dryer.
Sorry, everyone! I thought that this was a review for the new LG Boombox.
Do washer and dryers makes noise? Of course. TheWM4000 is LOUD. Motor sounds like a turbine. Water valves make thumps through water lines in your house. When Water inlets open and it fills with water it is loud like a fire hose. Don’t buy the LG line of washers.
It's so quiet you wont even know it's on! It's amazing
@@evirapier2963 It's all relative. Much louder than our 20 year Frigidaire. Maybe I'll post a video, maybe I got a lemon.
Its dryer lint trap is shallow and does not work…
I’m sorry to hear that. The lint trap for this particular is actually it’s normal depth. Although different style dryers have different lint trap depths.

How did you turn your light on in the dryer
Unfortunately for the drier you have to press the power button for the light to come on. The light is not activated by the opening of the door.
How long are the cycles
Normal/Bright Whites/ Towels/Delicates-35-45 mins
Bedding/Sanitary/Heavy Duty- 1hr
The cycle times also depends on the soil level and the amount of clothes that the washer senses
