    The aspect ratio and forced use of FB is a definite deal breaker. For sports the frame needs to be unbreakable and made of a flexible material and come with a safety strap. I'm sure there will be better alternatives to choose from fairly soon - hopefully with a built in phone.

    Awesome video, NBTJ! I’m so glad that you reviewed this with an honest day-in-the-life experience. I have long hair too, so I’ve been wondering how it would affect the camera. Thanks for touching on that! I’d love to see a follow-up video to this where you spend more time with the glasses in different environments, plus using the new multimodal A.I. camera update. Excellent work as always! 👍

    I have a love hate relationship with these glases.
    I bought a set of the transition lense version of it, and they worked great for a couple of days, but then, everytime I tried to livestream, the glasses would disconect immediately. (the only work around was to uninstall and reinst all the metaview app to get them working again... but that would only work for a day, and then back to square one). In addition, people said that whne taking calls, i sounded distant and low... SO I returned them (hard to keep a pair of $400 flitchy glasses).
    Then yesterday i found a person selling the same glasses (used) on marketplace for $170, and I bought them (Glitches at $170 are acceptable). ODLY ENOUGH, THEse pairs have had no issues so far... NONE! So maybe an initial bad pair?
    Anyways, 2 pieces of advice, if you feel you will stream or take many indoor videos, do yourself a favor and BUY THE TRANSITION VERSION... its horrible to stream videos indoors while wearing dark glasses. The Transitions is the way to go.
    Second, be aware that the only way to record videos longer than 1 minute is to do the livestream video, and then save that video (to later transfer or capture it)... but if the video is from a live concert or event, YOU WILL LIKELY GET STRUCK WITH A COPYRIGHT WARNING FROM FACEBOOK, AND THEY WILL PROCEED TO MUTE THE VIDEO AUDIO :(
    Anyways, at $400, its a tough pill to swallow with current glitches, but at $170... id buy them all day long :)
    P.S. i collect arcade machines and ppinballs, abnd these glasses are a dream for streaming pinpall gameplay!

      Thanks for the tips. I also take a lot of videos, and I guess I need to go with transition ones. But I do love the round brown ones, like the one in this video they look great. But sadly they don't come in transition type.

    Great Video! I just got mine last week and I'm still figuring out all of the functions. Thanks for touching on the privacy issue with FB as during the setup it asked me for access to all of my photos which I'm not 100% on board with. Is it just to write new photos or did I just give Meta permission to suck all of my photos and videos up into their servers?

    • @aarhd75
      @aarhd75 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Theres that + privacy of others around you of you sharing their images or videos without their consent and feeding Facebook with it. Cool tech but Meta never thinks about users privacy and the impacts it can have on others. That’s how I see it.

    I love seeing how this works just walking around town. As a prescription glasses wearer, I am curious how well the prescription version works (not curious enough to spend $300+ though). If it catches on, I'm hoping they will come out with a non-luxury-brand version.

    For video framing easiest way would be for use your phone to see what’s in frame and then just use a marker in the inside of the lens for where the camera frame is in your field of view, pretty easy to do if that really matters to you

    I find it interesting that Meta has the glass be a separate thing to their XR lines... You would think the glasses would just use the quest app were you do have a viewfinder for the quests and the Quests could record with their external camera and have the AI features that the glasses do... Like that is a very odd choice from a company wanting to make a meta verse and be all the things.

  • @daviday87
    @daviday87 ปีที่แล้ว

    As much as I want to love this leap in technology, my main gripes are the following:
    1) the aspect ratio really ought to have horizontal framing enabled;
    2) sunglasses are useless indoors which leads me to the most important dealbreaker for me;
    3) installation of prescription lenses in Europe costs double of the sunglasses. The base price sunglasses are sold in Europe at €329 & prescription lenses bump it up to €608 or €718 with transitions + prescription. (Only possible via Ray Ban stores at the moment; two opticians couldn’t believe how much Ray Ban is charging for the service until they saw the quote). At that excessive price point they need to be less limited in their functionality.

    I made a prototype from some Chinese glasses with a camera and I have managed to control them without touching them or saying a single word.
    What's more, you can look at me with them on and I'll give you $100 if you guess when l'm taking photos or videos of you.
    I am doing some things to get a superior prototype and launch them on the market through crowdfunding, but I am going slowly since I have never launched any other product. The control system using cephalic-facial gestures can be incorporated into any glasses, including Ray-Ban | Goal. The sensors that I incorporate are 3 and they do not consume any additional energy to function, in addition, I also made a system for them to charge them while you use them without it being noticed and it has turned out as I expected.
    The glasses still look identical, you don't notice anything additional when you wear them.

    I think these would be great for driving, Conventions, hobbing, Lego/gunpla/model building/Art... Or just wanting to capture something right there if you wear it all the time and taking a phone out of your pocket is to slow/impossible... Like Gopros are great but are never right unless you have time to set up. But yeah even my Quest 3 has that same light and while it is nice to have on that for passthough... recording need to be red... My Blue yeti studio has a red light for armed/on/recording and flashing for muted... Even that could have more lights but still I wish the m,etas has white for passthough/AI and Red for recording at least.

Seems like the Meta version is better in just about every way, plus they add AI features. Think I'll be saving up to get prescription lenses with the Transitions so I can use them indoors and out. • @TheGenzceo
    @TheGenzceo ปีที่แล้ว

    Jacklyn I guess meta should work on feature called live blur like Google maps. See today roughly every person has access to Facebook and Instagram so meta should develop an option in it's apps to calibrate their face and turn on the blur mode and then that facial data will get uploaded to metas database from which this glasses can render and identify the peoples preferences who turned on that blur option and who's not... I know it's kinda not working thing but can work and can be one of the solution to protect privacy without annoying the other person... And if one want to shoot one person with this glasses they just need to send a unblur request to his phone so that glasses will not put the filmed person in blur mode...

    3:25 There is no expectation of privacy when you're in public..... I hate when people say, "They might not want to be recorded in a public setting"..... Well, I say to them. Don't be in public. What's the difference between recording someone and looking at someone and having a memory of it? It's pretty much almost the same, except you can't download it and share it with other media... Once again, there is no expectation of privacy in a public setting. However, there are exceptions like the bath, the gym locker room, changing rooms, PII information, certain areas of federal/government areas etc..etc..... Here's an example: We see celebrities with their children and they get really upset when paparazzi's are recording them constantly..... Well, there you go, and you don't have to be a celebrity to be recorded in public. Also, how many times in a court of law have the defense or prosecution use a recording to help with their case? And i'm pretty sure the victim or parties did not realize they were being recorded and never gave their permission. .... case closed....so light indicator or not really isn't a concern for me.
    Here is a fun fact: it would be great when pulled over for "real" interactions with Law Enforcement.....

    I'm building parts of the Metaverse aka The Real Node-LA. These glasses won't fit the bill for the future. Functional glasses need to be light weight, have a minimum OLED display. For true AR/XR experience you need tracking cameras front and down facing for leg/ hand tracking. Built in WiFi or 5g. Finally, the glasses should have noise canceling audio with pass-through sound. Build some glasses with these specs, and it will be a Matrix game changer.

      @@artphototech so if someone wearing the glasses films me and decides to use the footage without my consent for whatever purpose or context is ok or exempt from a lawsuit? Do you know what I’m saying? I don’t understand about legal actions for that case but not many people would be ok with being exposed like that with their even knowing they’re being filmed. Cool tech but coming from Meta even is worrying.

    • @artphototech
      @artphototech ปีที่แล้ว

      @@aarhd75 oh for sure, but if you're in public, you can be recorded. If you feel that it's better settled through litigation, you go that route too. Now if those videos show malice, then yeah, maybe a good case

    • @aarhd75
      @aarhd75 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@artphototech yeah, if we lived in a world where only ‘well intended’ individuals lived I’d totally love it too - and I mean it. But a simple example is someone films you and goes home adds some captions on the video saying you did something to them or you tried to do something bad and boom on Instagram. Your life is exposed for something you’ve never done or knew someone else is using your image without your consent. To me that sounds like something Meta would do.

No one trusts Meta, why would we wear their cameras on our faces and film everything and everyone for them? The privacy concerns with something like this are astronomical.
