Yea, No mate, I'll correct you on that, it's parents and their s h i t upbringing and neglect on teaching them early to look after their stuff, have all my tech from when I was a kid still in perfect nick such as my Master System 2 I've had since I was 5.
Displex (which I reckon is the exact same fine acrylic polishing paste sold by the very same company in the same tube with a different design) has helped me with more than one radio dial cover, as well as a clear plastic soap holder that someone must have attacked with coarse scouring means in the past. I would definitely give it a shot if I had to save a badly scratched CD. On a side note, I bet they're buying the stuff by the bucketload and making a pretty penny selling it in 5g tubes... but it does work well.
That chip flying off with the upbeat music in the background nearly made me pass out from laughing.... I don't think anything scripted could be any funnier. Thanks for all the learning and laughs! Absolutely love the way you roll! Outstanding! 🤙😂
I think alot of the issues are people that sell on ebay and lie. I have had so many xbox ones that are unfixable but just listed as sometthing else. Had a controller recently listed as working but x button not working and when it arrived it was full of corrosionand doesnt work at all. @bart.k
If its anything like my house they get given to the youngest in the house and they do unpredictable things. I have a pink lite that ny 3 year old decoded to dunk in a bucket of water while I was doing aquarium stuff, power cut out instantly thought it was a gunner then 2 weeks late ri randomly test it and it comes alive.
I understand the anxiety and desperation of trying to fix something for hours on end, and even if logic says it shuld work, it still won't. I felt your relief when it loaded that game at the end brother...felt nice!!!
Two tips = 1) To polish the screen, try a foam ball buffer bit on a rotary tool/dremel, to apply the cleaning paste... Similar to a car electric buffer. 2) If your glasses have transition lenses, have your eye doctor give you a prescription for soldering glasses = A single focal length that is strong, but long enough to get a soldering iron in under your nose. For me (far sighted,) that is about +4, for a distance of about 12"/300mm. I have been spreading the word on YT and everybody loves them. No more chasing the narrow band that is in focus.
Huh. Once I get some glasses (I'm nearsighted, but not nearsighted enough to matter except when soldering small components) I'll probably ask about that.
i’m a bit too nearsighted to comfortably solder with my glasses off. would be pretty hot that close, and i don’t want to splatter flux or solder into my eyes lol. 12 inches would probably be fine, im closer to like 4 or 5 inches of focus distance
@@morgan0I'm so sorry; I don't understand. I was not suggesting to not wear glasses. I was suggesting that for people that wear transition lenses, they get a single prescription, so they do not have to chase the proper, narrow field of view. And, that the focal distance be long enough to accommodate a soldering iron. I hope that helps. Maybe you were just joking with the prior commenter?
The hot air going at warp 10 speeds always gets me hahaha. Crying here from laughing when that chip went flying, all i thought was picard's face palm meme. 😂🤣🤣. Great fix tho! Nice job Steve!
So glad that it worked in the end. After removing the game slot, I think I saw a trace or two under the flex ribbon cable that needed attention. Maybe not broken all the way, but the solder mask is scratched away.
Those holes could be probe marks? as there were some on the right hand joystick socket test points, 6:19 the 5 points all had indents which is normally a sign. Thanks Steve😊
With great power comes greater responsibility... But with bad consoles comes the worst replacement challenges.. This is the most satisfying video in a while
Dear Switch Doctor, Two questions, if I may? 1) Where can I learn your craft? 2) Do you have a separate channel for your music? (because you are actually mad talented!)
2) totally, loved it too! The smoother beats and voice works great. I do love the OG style beats a lot too. Also, since Switch Doctor told me to: told you not to put it back togetheeeehhh.
Love seeing the excitement when it works, I've been doing original xbox ones for a while now just for practice and I'm the same when it works. Love the content mate, keep it up.
I'm very jealous of your ability to se what you are doing! I gave up modeling and repairing electronics when my eyesight started to fade and plain reading glasses failed to improve things.
I laughed so hard when you said let's annoy everyone who doesn't like it when I put it all back together, that's me!! but it's still funny hell. Love your channel.
Steve you must be buying your stuff from the same place I get mine. You fix one thing and another fault comes along straightaway. Well done mate you fixed it, mine normally gets thrown in the corner while I sulk for a few months before having another go at it. Always enjoy your videos mate 👍
This is a good day to not reset the melted plastic count! Good fix, irritating - like all Nintendo fixes seem to be. Have you had the opportunity to fix an OLED Switch yet? I can't recall a video?
Why they're water damaged? Kids... spilling drinks, dropping the handheld into something and everything in between. But the Switch is actually very repair-friendly for what it is. Job well done!
Good stuff! Might be worth investing in an ultrasonic tank for cleaning up liquid damage and flux residue. Fill it with IPA (initially expensive but will last a while before it needs changing) and they work really well. A good brand of display polish is Displex but not sure if it’s still available.
I SO feel your pain! I know exactly how you feel especially with cable connectors. There have been many a time I have given up and ended up throwing a laptop on the floor. "One more for the spare parts box..." Fixing electronics is not good for your mental & physical health but the puzzle of getting it working is just too absorbing... I could never do it professionally. Thanks for the laugh and knowing it is not just me!!! : )
Good job on the cartridge slot connector. I would've tried to align it close enough and anchored it with some Kapton tape. Also, I'm sure you've used polywatch before, but it's good to keep in mind that the paste contains some acetone, for softening up the plastic, so cleaning it thoroughly after polishing is important, as well as keeping in mind to not use it on soft plastics, as acetone can be bit too harsh on those.
Oh I'm so glad this one got to see the light 😆 amazing job on the connector I wouldn't have the heart to try replacing these yet but you deserved a happy ending with this one😄
I really enjoy your videos, there so relaxing and informative at the same time. You're sense of humour and mannerisms reminds me for an old friend i used to know ( also had the weirdest sense of humour lol). you as a person seem to be so likable. if it was possible, id be happy to buy you a pint and chat Sh*t for a few hours in a local pub. keep up the great videos and have an amazing week. All the best fella. Dave.
Amazing work Steve! All done. But uve given me all the inspiration to never wanna do my own repair work on any switches. I’ll stick to my earlier console jobs instead
Great stuff, happy to see you get it all sorted! Just so you know, even if the game cart slot hadn't been sorted out the switch is still very usable with a picofly modchip installation. The pico fly chip is quite cheap, and then you can just load all your games on an SD card!
2:05 not sure if you mention this further on in the video (not got there yet) but you can see on the inside of the black case SH written or scratched. Doubt Nintendo would do that, so someone has probs been in.
Lots in Australia too. So many idiots spilling coke into them, even more idiots thinking they have the skill to perform a repair. The PS5 in particular seems to attract fools that think they can repair them, probably because too many youtube repairers make it look easy.
Steve... I never understand how easily some plastic melt when you blow the hot air pistol... But not the plastic on the chips... Are they somehow heatproof or you control the temperature? Greetings from Brazil! Love your videos!!! You're my only TH-camr I keep notifications on!
Different types of plastic have different thermal properties. I was shocked to learn, years ago, that plastic cement used to assemble model kits only works on certain types of plastic. If it's the wrong type of plastic, it absolutely won't work.
If you kept going with that poly watch and scrubbed more between applications, you'll get everything out of that screen. They are the perfect kind of scratches for poly watch. It'll even get that bigger one to the left out.
I love those songs at the end. One day were gonna see an advert for "100 songs by Stez" like the one the sea captain released in the Simpsons Mr Plow Episode.
for polishing scraches out of plastic you need to invest in some novus plastic polish, it comes in 3 compounds and would probably get most if not all them scraches out
Stupid water damage
Stupid owners...
I think it’s sweat
And Stupid air flow.
Some people eat fish eggs and drink rotten grape juice to feel fancy. I like to soak in a hot bath and play video games on my Switch.
In my defense the package didnt say that I couldn't take it in the shower.
"That wasn't in the listing" I laughed so hard.
That solder/hot air job was impeccable!
Stupid water.
🤣 thanks Scott. Those little connector things are a nightmare, so I was glad to not melt this one!
I agree, perfect!
It always amazes me how people treat their stuff.
I look after my stuff and will still look like new after years.
You act like you’ve never had a fuckinf accident
Kids.
Wait til you have children, little dick heads I tell you
Yea, No mate, I'll correct you on that, it's parents and their s h i t upbringing and neglect on teaching them early to look after their stuff, have all my tech from when I was a kid still in perfect nick such as my Master System 2 I've had since I was 5.
The scratch removing with the polywatch alone was worth watching the video--wow!
Steve you've becoming a Switch Doctor. You almost pinpoint faulty places instantly.
That Poly watch was freaking AMAZING! I've never seen a screen that beat up come back that much.
Displex (which I reckon is the exact same fine acrylic polishing paste sold by the very same company in the same tube with a different design) has helped me with more than one radio dial cover, as well as a clear plastic soap holder that someone must have attacked with coarse scouring means in the past. Great, but really, again, vinegar is the way to go to dissolve and THEN use alcohol to clean the vinegar.
Rust, lime scale, battery leak => vinegar :)
I am beginning to think that these Switch Lite things are cursed... But your soldering skills are off the charts mate!
😁 thanks TSL, really appreciate it!
Yeah, like that chip flying off the board.
I'm afraid its not the device that's cursed but users. They're having a really hard time before ending up under Steve's scope!
I think alot of the issues are people that sell on ebay and lie. I have had so many xbox ones that are unfixable but just listed as sometthing else. Had a controller recently listed as working but x button not working and when it arrived it was full of corrosionand doesnt work at all. @bart.k

Spoilers!
@TravisFPV That’s why you avoid the comments section until the end!! ;)
I actually clapped when you got it working, I was so pleased! Nice one!
"If it doesn't work, i'm going to give up !"
Is such a mood.

For some reason, the Switch is your kryptonite.
I enjoy the journey, the dedication and the perseverance. Great content. Keep it up. Thanks.
🎉 It’s just unbelievable how much you have progressed over the months in terms of fault detection, soldering skills, etc. Kudos!

Amazing work! That connector defect was super hard to spot!
Amazing to see how much your skills have improved, and I've learned a lot just from watching you.
Special…… very special. I felt you anguish, then joy. Keep on truckin big man
With great power comes greater responsibility...

The Switch and Switch Lite videos are always so intense. Awesome repair! Look forward to the next one.

Well done Steve, well chuffed for you that you managed to get it working 🎉
Brilliant… I actually cheered out loud when it worked !! Emotional rollercoaster… luvin this channel
It's so hard to find a channel that uses the correct amount of thermal paste. Thanks. Subscribed.
Congratulations! Great video. I enjoyed the many angles when working on the M92 chip.
amazing fix, i was holding my breath at the end there. Fantastic result.
Awesome as always! You had me in suspense there for a bit. Glad to see you come out on top over that stupid board connector.
I had myself in suspense too! 🤣 all worked out nicely in the end...
The suspense was killing me 😱 so glad you solved the problem 😃 for our benefit and your sanity too😁 nice 👍
I'm very jealous of your ability to se what you are doing! I gave up modeling and repairing electronics when my eyesight started to fade and plain reading glasses failed to improve things.
Nice job sir. Your skills, troubleshooting and soldering just continues to improve. Another one saved.
I wasn't telling you not to put it back together yet, but I do think you are in the pocket of "Big Thermal Grease". Great vid as always.
What a rollercoaster! Well done for getting it sorted, you're a wizard Steve!
I laughed so hard when you said let's annoy everyone who doesn't like it when I put it all back together, that's me!! but it's still funny hell. Love your channel.
A very entertaining parade of calamities. That wasn't water damage, it was milk damage.
Nice work Steve, it's great to watch when you solve multiple problems. Well done 👏
Hey Steve you killed on this one!! That connector was crazy, didn't have to put sunglasses on 😂😂😂 thanks for the cool video!
These references to other channels are just amazing! Really enjoyed. Another great video!
LOL maybe you should add another counter to how many parts you blow off screen next to your plastic counter
I can't believe yo fixed the screen before testing it, you're a different breed.

Yeah, they always irritate! Haven't done an OLED yet, but I don't think I've found one for a decent price yet. I'll keep looking! 👍
Why they're water damaged? Kids... spilling drinks, dropping the handheld into something and everything in between.
But the Switch is actually very repair-friendly for what it is.
Job well done!
7:07 what is the little muppet creature that pops up in your videos?
Thanks for a great vid and thanks for leaving the mistakes in--they are all extremely relatable!
Get in there !!!!!! Nice job ! Always entertaining if you fix it or not ! Thanks for another great video
I do have to love your character, damn you do it good. Such an honest man.

I laughed so hard at the emltional damage part in the rap. Youve gotten pretty good ad editing.
Congrats on finally getting a lite fixed!
Lovely to see the Polywatch in action. I've got some and thankfully I haven't needed it.
Great choice of song at the end 🤣( laughed out loud when that chip blew away too🤣) top work 🤘
Absolutely impressive work.
If you used the correct amount of thermal paste it would have worked first time😂😂
Great repair Steve👍
That one was doubly satisfying to see you fix because of the game card reader twist.
These faulty Switch Lite consoles must be fairly common on eBay. I'm going to have to take a look and see if it's the same here in the States.
Yeah, there are loads of them! The hard part is finding a genuine one that hasn't already been looked at! 👍

@@JMcMillen Cool, Dude! Thanks for the knowledge!!!
I like how you polished the screen before even testing if it works. lol
Who changed the connector ? Super Steve ! Our repair hero.
Steve the same happened to me a few days ago. I'm so relieved not to be the only one 😂
I think you would love a place we have in Tokyo... shop's name is "Hard Off". They sell "Junk" for pennies and often work.
You name it, they have it!
Hey Steve! People play these things while they do the number two. That's why they all have water damage. 😂😂😂
The final look of joy!!!!!
Nice job as always ! I wanted to know what kind of flux you are using?🤔♥️
If you kept going with that poly watch and scrubbed more between applications, you'll get everything out of that screen. They are the perfect kind of scratches for poly watch. It'll even get that bigger one to the left out.
Top notching repairs, Steve!! Great work!!!
Stumbled upon you. Made me laugh several times. Enjoy your content… hello from Pennsylvania USA!
Nice job sticking it out.
😍 thank you, I was determined not to let this one beat me!
Awesome work Steve. Very nicely done.
i dont even use thermal paste anymore for my pc pr anything i use these graphite pads that i can just set and forget works quite well
Liked your selection of background music for this one!
great fix steve 👍, and you get a headband magnifying glasses when working without a microscope, i have one and it helps a lot

Nice work, Steve 👍🏻 did you see the scratch beneath the slot connector? Seen at 19:20
I was skipping a heartbeat if this is the problem 😅
I spotted that and was about to mention it. Looks like possible trace damage doesnt it.
If you add a screen protector, the remaining scratches might be hidden by the adhesive.
Did this on one of my switches and it looks like new.
Well done Stez!! Perseverance paid off!
Its a good day when I see new videos of yours friend.
You're my hero Steve! Amazing!
