Thanks for answering what I was just going to research. It seemed like a straight run and I was wondering what is the longest straight run in NYC. I know that US cites are mostly grid systems so I'd imagine there would be quite a few long, straight runs. I think I'll do some calculations using Google maps to find out.
It actually seems more dangerous the less traffic there is. When there is lots of traffic, the cars are more predictable since there is not a lot of places for the cars to go.
I'm 53 and live in Ireland. I'd love to visit NYC again when the covid's over. I'm struggling to imagine myself fearlessly hurtling down 2nd Avenue on a track bike with no brakes, although, when I am out and about training on my fixed gear, I keep saying to myself "Gotta be like a ninja" quite a lot - It's become my new mantra and these videos are an inspiration.
Great comment. When I read this I was flying down 2nd Ave on my Super Pista. 116th to 14th. Just copped some smoke, flying high! Great feeling. My man Mario gets it in! 👊🏿👑🖤✌🏿
A less adventurous version of what Mario is doing is something everyone inevitably ends up doing if you ride in NYC long enough. Even if you swear you'll be the safest rider ever The City makes you eventually go at least a little crazy.
It became perfectly normal and second nature for me to run lights. I’m not doing it recklessly. Everything I do is calculated for the most part and almost every line I take is for two. This hotline is literally what it used to look like commuting from the Bronx to brooklyn to go to work. (Thanks for watching y’all!)
I look forward to all of your videos Terry. Everytime I watch one I want to get on my bike and explore. The one you made with Safa in Mexico felt like urban exploration. I love the crazy fast stuff but that particular one is my favourite explicitly because it felt like I was a kid again - "let's see if the cemetery is a short cut", "I wonder where these stairs lead", "let's see where this road goes" etc. I've only got a 46/16 single speed/fixed gear steel bike & appreciate the fixed gear riders' abilities but Safa was doing all this crazy stuff on a geared bike. Amazing in it's almost brutal beauty. I fell in love with the movie Quicksilver when it came out but life took various turns so here I am, almost 50 being inspired by yourself & those you're filming to push myself to get fit & healthy again despite disabilities. I wish my disability pension could enable me to help fund your travels and work but the best I can offer is a bunch of Anti-Fascist Action Ipswich stickers - a group I formed to fight bigotry and divisiveness in our community. Keep being awesome.
Anna, thank you for the feedback on the Safa video. Happy that it made you feel that way, and love that these videos keep you stoked to get out, explore, and ride! I have one with Safa coming out soon that was shot in Mexico that you'll really enjoy. I'll keep you posted :)
Yo. This is an instant favorite. How have I not seen this before? His control is sick. That aw shit moment by 2nd and 21st, come on man. The traffic movement! And that poor damn kid. He was a second off. I gotta start riding man, I feel bad calling myself a biker after seeing this. Shout him out man, much props. Need a TERRY hotline
Well us guys in SF dont haver to ride this hard because traffic is not so insane but we bike race allot around the SF bay area and the regular road bike folks hate us because one of us always win. They tried to BAN track bike but the race event people said no.
as soon as I said wtf with all the red lights you got a green. I used to do that shyt not for 5 miles worth but some, elephants/cars don't move sideways very well. Your vid reminds of some good ole days, if you only knew, what landing on your head when someone has run a red light you can't avoid, melon bonk, no helmet. Very fortunate to still be here. Be well, GET REAL.
Awesome shit! I feel myself swerving and dodging cars as I watch. Didn’t even realize that was Wonka, one crazy dude. Video was rad as always Terry. When you posted the date for it I felt like a kid waiting for Christmas morning.
Amazing view !!!! I'm from small village in Poland - right on the border with Germany . I'm quite often in Berlin but it's nothing in comparing with NY !!!! My biggest wish - someday get to NYC !!!!
It'd be awesome to see HR. Please do post. Urban riding like this (and drop bar cross bikes on singletrack) is why I ride. I love the speed and freedom to hammer past cars. I'm curious as to how hard others are going.
Damnnn you guys are good and always focus...I can’t imagine riding in NYC ,that will take me long time to remember all these traffic lights and street because I live in Bangor Maine and it’s nothing here lol
i'm new to your channel. How did you film it with little to no shake? Either the cams you use have crazy image stabilization or you have a small rig on mounted onto your helmet. Very relaxing vids
Love this guy's bike and commentary. One of the rare people to actually lose you a couple times there too, tiiiight squeezes. Was that bridge in the beginning Krussia inspired?
Keep in mind people.... everyone he films he also HAS TO KEEP THE PACE WITH... respect from Philly!
he is on a e bike
@@nomadwgk no... he isnt
@@12366hihi he actually is there was a video about that ...

I did the maths for you stats guys and they avg 23.2 mph (37.3 km/h) through the whole 2nd Av run (5.4miles in 14min).

Fucking flying
I just commented that i wanted to see this and then i scrolled down, thanks dude.
It actually seems more dangerous the less traffic there is. When there is lots of traffic, the cars are more predictable since there is not a lot of places for the cars to go.
Studies actually show that during covid, the roads were more dangerous because people could actually get up to speed
It's a very wide road so it's possible to see coming cars
hits every red light in the city.
I think the lights ganged up on him... big brother?...
Observe trafic rules bruh...
Achievement unlocked!
The lights are only for skateboarders and wheelchairs
Agree
I‘m buying this Game in PS4
I thought the same thing! Hahaha
Nah, save the money and buy a bike.
buy a bike
Man Mario is clean as fuck. Really smooth lines and not risky for no reason. Miss riding with him. Need to more!
4:23 My heart stopped for a second!
11:15 Car hits!
16:41 "Ah-shit!"
Truck passes gast af
You forgot 8:52
At 16:39 wasn't there a "Ah-shit!"?
At 16:41 Ah shit!
never in a million years would I pull any of those moves
8:52 for me was the craziest

I’ve seen a bunch of NYC POV bike videos but this 3rd person style is much better for showing the chaos of riding in the city.. dope concept🤙🏽🤙🏽

I'm so happy I set a calendar reminder for this premiere. This video was 🔥
One of the best rough cuts.
Agreed.
Love Mario's cycling and commentary...
Would be really interesting to see how riders like this guy would do in an actual bike race. Great stuff.
Road race or track racing?
Well us guys in SF dont haver to ride this hard because traffic is not so insane but we bike race allot around the SF bay area and the regular road bike folks hate us because one of us always win. They tried to BAN track bike but the race event people said no.
This was wild! One of the best so far
Nice pedaling technique. The best I've seen on these videos.
belated happy birthday and greetings from leipzig/germany :)
Amazing,,beautiful bike,incredible speed,lighting fast rider!
I love riding along with Mario on my exercise bike. Terry we need a new MARIO HOTLINE! Please...
49-15...Was wondering how he got so fast with low cadence, but that explains :D
Pedro Nogueira that’s straight up 86 gear inches boy
Strong ass legs man
How is he skidding with that gear ratio lol
when u start riding those gears it becomes normal....im on 47-14 and its been fine lol
@@NoFaceNoNameee its a e brake at that point, where I live its way more hilly and wouldn't dare but it does look so fun
Filming this requires incredible skills, maximum respect
It stresses me out when you pass intersections at red light. lol. Thank God you guys are safe.
105 was my block!! Changed so much.
Great finish - "fade to grey" just after some seriously good bike handling carried out at speed.
The road in the beginning so flat and nice!
Sick rough cut. I will do one soon on laurel canyon leading to hollywood blvd . lots of turns down hill
I did it amd survived. no video of it .it was practice but I will go out there again amd film it .
That's a beautiful bike!
Stop scaring the old ladies Terry 😄

Most likely yes, otherwise Terry wouldn't have edited that part in
That was Wonka. He made it out alive :)
If you pull a Wonka in NY do you stick around for the police or ditch?
ps, love your content
is this the same Wonka?

Abraham Espino Barros pretty sure yes
This is the craziest of your crazy ones
I estimate Mario is doing close to 20mph. He's one wild SOB. Wish I could peddle that fast.

Where does his name Wonka come from?! It said his name was Mario. I guess Wonka is he nickname?
Beautiful ride guys!!
Mesmerising
I like his riding style. He is quick! And like a Duracell battery, he keeps going.
Love these bronx vids makes me.appreciate my borough
Terry you should try filming austin horse . love your work boi, youre the reason why i converted my fixie to a single speed
Slow fade out at the end was nice
i liked it too. good effect.
Mario, amiable guy, used to race track at Kissena years ago. Red Hook too.

wish more people would just bike, specially for commuting. Its fun.
Totally
Tough in the winter months though
Need telemetry (speed, elevation, heartrate)
Yeah maybe on these RoughCuts we will in the future. Although HR may or may not vibe with all the riders.
