Would you consider ITIL as a way to build your organozation IT policy?
Great question! I definitely believe that organizations that follow the ITIL 4 framework will have greater success in delivering services to their customers (internal and external) in ways that bring value. That being said, policy creation as part of governance doesn't necessarily have to be straight from an ITIL perspective. I've worked with several companies that started their IT policies with something from COBIT and perhaps LEAN as support. The good news is that ITIL works well with most other frameworks as they all share quite a bit in common when it comes to Risk Management, Incident and Problem Management, Change, Security, etc. Can you use ITIL to build out your Governance through policies? Yes. Do you have to just use ITIL? Not at all. Hope that helps!
