THIS is how you measure a champion. Having a never give up mentality, forging on to the end. This, the two gentleman electing to share gold in last year’s high jump final and so many more are what make track and field the greatest sport in the world.
the story of Derek Redmond got me to rekindle my relationship with my father. Its never too late until it is, then you will regret it forever. Make the call.
I still remember this like it was yesterday. Derek Redmond, Keri Strug, and I don't remember the young man's name who finished the marathon after all of the other events were over and he had expected everyone to have gone home but those moments are the most touching and amazing moments in Olympic history to me because those 3 people along with many others represent the spirit that will ensure when the battle turns to survival. They never gave up and finished what they started. Theirs was/is the true Olympic and competitive spirit that will ensure. I thank you Derek and your father because medal or not you were the most enduring memory if that specific Olympiad.
John Stephen Akhwari from Tanzania in the 1968 Olympics. "My country didn't send me 5,000 miles to start the race; they sent me 5,000 miles to finish the race." Still remembered for his courage.
Have just spent an afternoon listening to Derek who now does motivational speeches - I sort of knew this event took place but was very young and didn’t know the back story and what happened subsequently- got to admit I was pretty awestruck listening to him - inspirational even to this day 👍
INSPIRATIONAL 👏 You didn't got the medal but you won the time you didn't give up and started running again despite of injury. You earned the respect which was more important.

This is so inspirational and demonstrates how we can overcome any difficulty we might encounter.
Always loved watching his father come to assist him, truly an encouraging moment.
Never once I have never cried watching this. True inspiration. He finished last, but he finished.
Love of a father
I like how his dad waved the other officials away as if to say “no, I’ve got him”
Fatherhood is so underappreciated these days...
I've always wondered how he got past security.
@@mrbillboland2120he had guns drawn upon him and they tried to separate them. Thankfully they backed off
Jim ran down 13 flights of stairs jumped over the railing and caught up with him

It's a great moment of sportsmanship 💐💐💐💐

👍👍👍 Hello from Germany 👍 Playlist Sport 👍👍
😢
But who finished first 🤔
The irony? The fact that his dad helped him meant disqualification. Per Olympic rules, his run is a DNF (did not finish.)
The people who make that call were all on a lunch break or on the can.
@@thekaiser3815 Funny! 😜🥳😆
