Scotland North Coast 500 - dream drive

- Join me on my trip around the North Coast 500 in Spring 2018, starting the NC500 from Inverness and going clockwise.
Scotland never fails to take my breath away with beautiful views around the next corner.
There is a little NC500 route map overlay in the bottom left corner, which gives a rough indication of each location.
If you do the NC500, please drive responsibly, be a courteous driver and leave no trace but footprints.
Thanks to Peter Wilkie for the intro gfx
Music from Epidemic sounds called "The sky is a choir" by Polar Nights
Beautiful video! I love the map graphic in the corner.
thanks Rachel
I'm cycling this route in 2023. You don't know how inspirational this video has been. Thank you.
enjoy the scenery
I've done that whole run in my works van about 3 time last year but doing it on my motorbike with my two sons this Easter
I'm afraid to drive on the left side but I would like to go to Scotland on the motorcycle. Grtz from Belgium
@@dannyvandenbranden4845 I done it on my motorbike with my two sons who also have motorbikes, we come from Glasgow so it was over 800 miles in 4 days, it's awesome you should try it
Not long to go now then. Best of luck to you. Ride safe.
keith marshall Sounds fun!
Plan to hire a caravan and drive this route with my family this early dec, hopefully it won't snow as i never drive in winter before.
Indeed, this captures the magnificent roads of the 500. I have not seen another video that captures this.
Sury this is the last place in the UK were you can enjoy driving/riding without being made to feel guilty and a criminal just for enjoying that simple fact that you enjoy driving.
Thank you for the video.
thanks
Lol. In what delusional way do you feel guilty or criminal for driving?
The driving etiquette there is amazing. You can have someone going the speed limit, maybe even more and they'll see you and know you wanna go faster so they indicate left and either pull over or slow down when you pass so you can go off over 100 making your tyres go bald it's great
@Im wearing tights that I borrowed from your mum. How so?
The Scottish Highland are one of my top places, in the world.
That was the best bike ride of my life .
Oh yesss. Love the breathtaking landscape and the kind people and especially the Pubs. 86 days to go and I'll be back in my beloved SCOTLAND. Kind regards from Germany
Love the country and love the people in Scotland, makes me cry seeing this video and knowing it won't be anytime soon that I can visit Scotland again. Thx 4 sharing!
Glad you enjoyed the wee trip Mark
Wry well done. At the present moment I’m taking a short break along the NC500 - first time here. The landscapes here are mind-bending, the people are the epitome of hospitable. The weather changes every ten minutes from Spring to Summer to Autumn. It’s absolutely brilliant . . .
thanks, the views and the weather sure sound like Scotland :)
Just WOW, I'm speechless till now I thought Wales was the prettiest place in UK.Thanks for this video it's awesome!
glad you enjoyed it Kris
Kris full of sheep molesters
I’m here! Beautiful and peaceful. Thank you for sharing.
That's a really great video. I like the way you've put the map in the bottom corner so we can actually see what part of the nc500 the videos came from. Massive 👍🏼 for me.
My husband and I did this run many years ago! We had a fabulous time, though we didn't have anywhere booked at night, we simply found a motel, hotel, roadside area, the best holiday ever...
Jennings644 sounds great, no need to be somewhere specific
each day, such freedom :)
Whats it like for a drive, many police patrols etc?
@@MorfiusRacing none mate
@@MoThomson and now in 2021 the world has gone mad and freedoms are being eroded 😕😥
I did this drive in the autumn of 2014. I picked up the car in Glasgow, and 16 days later dropped it off at Gatwick. Spectacular scenery, especially western Scotland.
As an Englishmen I am proud that this amazing scenery is what I can call home. Please stay Scotland.🏴🏴🏴🇬🇧
Just fabulous. Going back this year for 5 days on motorcycle can't wait.
Hope you read this, I've just spotted this and I fancy doing it, I ride a 20 year old Honda firestorm problem is a full tank of fuel will only last approx 100 miles, how's the route for fuel stations please
Ahh. Those single-lane roads in Scotland. Stunning video. Simply stunning!
glad you enjoyed it
Ive travelled virtually every mile of the stunningly beautiful NC500, on three separate coaching holidays.
Its the section from Ullapool towards Durness and the Kyle of Tongue, that was the highlight for me.
Looking towards Ben Hope, Scotlands most Northerly munroe, and crossing the Assynt looking at majestic Suilven.
The NC 500 is one very special road.
I've also done that section countless times, it's my favourite. While I'm not surprised by it now, I still do it every time I get a chance, never get bored.
Beautiful scenery, great people, food, whisky, the most amazing light - I love Scotland
That's my favourite stretch too. I usually take in Assynt as well. There is something very magical and special about this area [ North West Highlands] , and I think that a lot of people can feel it.
Pokaż Dunde ok 😁
It's so easy to forget just how beautiful your own country can be.
Sure is :)
Done it a few times before the NC500 was ever mentioned. I’d wish it hadn’t but that is selfish. Wonderful place My favourite place. Glass of Laphroaig with a sea view and peace and quiet. A little piece of heaven
Ukmongoose3 Where and when did you move. We were seriously thinking of coming up there. Is rural France better ?? Was up in Skye last year. Hundreds of vans and motor homes about.
Can remember going to Knotdart 25 years ago. Me and my best mate saw 1 other person in 4 days and he was 3 miles away. Went back a couple of years ago. Big parties. Music playing. 4wd Litter. Was gutted. The last wilderness it is not
Ukmongoose3 I think the same way as you. Used to climb up in lochnagar. It was wonderful. Peace and freedom. Last time I was in glen Nevis there was a sponsored walk three peaks thing. Horrendous. I feel a bit selfish like it’s mine and not yours But it’s sad the way some people treat the tranquility of our wild places. Mill of kintyre was still quiet. But we do go in winter now
NC500 is ok for business but ???? They want you to go where THEY want you to go. I’m not a person to be shepherded I like freedom
Burgundy and champagne is leading now. Wonderful
Ukmongoose3 If people just treat the place better it may help. After all they are places to enjoy.
We were thinking of Mull or NW high up coast.
Looks like rural France has pole position now though
Could leave climbing gear at the bottom of the crag years ago. Couple of year ago car got robbed and somebody even stole my gloves and leggings from a drying room at kinlochleven I’m a people person but I struggle with people now. Anyway. Hope you get somewhere quiet
Ukmongoose3 I hope you find what your looking for. Have a look at rural France some great property for little money. Then get to one of the french property shows. There’s one at Wetherby racecourse in a couple of months. I have my tickets. Barns from cheap to chateaus. All readonable prices
This video brought tears to my eyes! I have to save money to visit these places... I just have to...
glad you enjoyed the video
So peaceful. Just discovered NC 500 today. Have been binge watching vlogs. Thanks for sharing.
me and my wife love Scotland we hope to afford to go this summer to say goodbye to that brilliant country
Beautiful country and people. Always in my heart.
I've spent 10 years in Scotland. Stunning people, stunning country. That clip reminds me all those fantastic memories. Thank you.
Love the road to applecross, love my Scottish road trip looking forward to going back this year
No words can describe the beauty of our country, I’m from the UK but you know what I mean...
Another great video of what is without question the Jewel of Europe, Mo. Thanks for posting.
thanks Rosa
Did the NC500 last year on my motorbike, awesome trip, this video just brought back all the memories! Great video!
Did this route back in 2005 with my then girlfriend, this was way before it was designated as the north coast 500. Unforgettable.
Amazing roadside view! I enjoyed watching this, thanks for sharing
Bravo, good to see the map so one can better understand where it is !
You would never see better. I toured there a long time ago. Thanks mate.
Durness beaches were a complete surprise and they're a lot bigger than they look
THIS MADE ME SMILE THANK YOU THE BEAUTY OF CREATSION.

...I did this route often working as a lineman for a well-known communication company! Seeing it beautifully done in your vlog still takes my breath away! SAOR ALBA 🏴
What a nice patch to be driving and working at the same time :)
I done it and it was magical in some way over 7 days wild camping, going back this year we camped on Durness beech it was amazing
I'm just planning our trip for next year in our VW T4. 2 adults and 2 kids. Did you wild camp at Durness or campsite? 👍
I camped at Durness last year. Storm during the night - to be expected. Fabulous beach though.
Absolutely brilliant filming of stunning scenery that makes me yearn for my own trip in June 2019. Thank you so much for posting.
cheers Kenneth, enjoy your trip in June
Fantastic video... We're doing it in 2021... Can't wait.
This was my first road trip ever and is still my favorite to this day. I will come back again for sure!
this will be my first one this summer !! ( so stressed but can't wait )
Wow! what an amazing video. I love driving and driven the Alps and Pyrenees many times but everyone tells me to go to Scotland. After watching your lovely video Mo I now know I definitely must go to Scotland.
Wow this is really a dream journey to everyone with such a beautiful scenery down the road, thanks for a great adventure
glad you enjoyed it
Wonderful. Thank you ! I have never been anywhere more beautiful. When I am up there I could just drive all day. Now that I have reasonable camera I have started making films like this.
Fantastic video and I recognise quite a lot of it. Brilliant video and very relaxing.
glad you enjoyed it
Has to be the best NC500 camera work I've seen so far. 👏👏👏
thanks John, I tried to get some decent footage :)
Beautifully captured thank you for the upload. I can’t wait to do this trip on two wheels.
The music on this with the beautiful scenery gave me goosebumps! Amazing video and well put together 😀
Mikaela glad you enjoyed the scenery and music
Planning on doing this early next year, can’t wait. I feel so lucky living in such a breathtakingly beautiful country. Thanks for sharing another fantastic video. All of your videos are amazing
Absolutely brilliant filming that captures the magnificent scenery superbly well which has whetted my appetite to drive the NC 500 next summer.
cheers Kenneth
From one Thomson to another....”Well done!!! A fantastic video. The family is proud of you!!!!” I’ve just completed most of the 500 and the scenery is truly fantastic especially with the yellow of the Scotch Broom. I now intend to return in September to complete the 500 and see the countryside bathed in purple heather. Europe’s last true gloriously beautiful wilderness.
cheers Ian, hope you had a nice time around the 500, it's great to take time doing it all
One of the most beautiful places on earth!
this must be heaven.
Ty so much for having the map constantly, it's genial!!!!!
And the music synchronized with the pictures, it's neat!ty🤸😀👍👍👍
Thank you for that video, you've done it justice in the way you've done that. Brilliant
thanks, glad you enjoyed the road side view :)
I did it, took some great photos but couldnt get a good video so this is great because I can watch this and remember these places and views and how stunned I was
An amazing place , I can't wait to get driving here soon.

Absolutely fantastic and thank you so much for sharing.
Looks beautiful we can't wait to do this road trip!
Fab video and soothing music ,wished I knew the tune I watch it to chill out after a hard day.simply beautifull.
Hi Simon, it's a track from Epidemic sounds called "The sky is a choir" by Polar Nights
Stunning views, what amazing countryside :)
Thanks Mo. The only place I feel at home, but so far away.
Brilliant. Perfect video to tempt and persuade us. Done. 🎉
Beautifully set video. One of the best I have seen
thanks Muhammad, glad you enjoyed watching it
@@MoThomson enjoyment is understatement. I planned my entire trip based on your video. It is work of art. The editing, music and everything is spot on. Very well done.
My wife and I did the NC500 over the Easter weekend, we took 6days but could have taken longer as there is so much to see, the scenery is stunning, mind you the weather helped. We started off in Inverness and went to John O’Groats first so did it anti-clockwise, we missed out the Applecross section and continued down to the Isle of Skye. This was our first real trip in Scotland and don’t know why we haven’t done it before, we will definitely be returning.
a nice diversion off the NC500, always good to just go where the notion takes you :)
Really well presented with the location graphic. Thanks for sharing.
Stunning! Can’t wait to get back up there 👌🏼
Breathtakingly beautiful! Thanks for posting.
What a beautiful place
Really well put together. The map in the corner was a nice touch
Stunning video and great background music well done .
glad you enjoyed it, it's a track from Epidemic sounds called "The sky is a choir" by Polar Nights
Such a great video! thanks We have plans to do this drive in May 2021.
Great video! I'm doing the trip in May but driving the other way round over the course of 8 nights. Taking my time for photography spots. Cannot wait!
I did that journey last year 2019 from Kyle of Tongue to Inverness via Ullapool, very nice it was too!
Really good video footage and nice idea having the map showing the location. 👍
thanks Scott
Looks fabulous. I'm hoping to do a road trip in Scotland in 2020. That looks like a great route.
Scotland looks a very beautiful Country. You did a super job 👍 with this video. Well done 👍

Well done!
Cheers from Calgary Canada
cheers Ron
That was so cool you synchronized with the map. Awesome 👏
thanks
Thank you for making and posting this fantastic video , stunning footage and information to act upon , just what I was looking for 👍
Beautifully done! Love the summary of the route and especially the map for reference. I drove it last summer and had an absolutely amazing time. I'm in the midst of posting some videos but my driving clips are nowhere near this quality.
Brilliant video. Great idea with the snippets and the map location
Thanks so much for putting the tracking map. Very helpful.
Very nice idea with the little map and the current position!
When I saw that video in the first time I was crying right after that. Now I have a dream and a goal to make the same journey. That's for that beauty of nature😱
Looks great Mo, I might follow in your footsteps next year!
cheers Dave, aye, it's a lovely drive, I would recommend going anti-clockwise
Excellent little video.
Thanks for posting.
Glad you enjoyed it Andy
Aah! The single lane roads with wide spots every so often for passing. I remember those from a lovely drive back in 96. My first experience with a right-hand drive car but it was fine.
Beautiful video, well filmed and edited. This is on my todo list, seeing this has made me more determined to do it.
cheers Dave, hope you get round it in the future
Just do it mate
Beautiful! Around every corner there seems to be a lake. I didn't realize Scotland was covered with so much water. There was barely a mile without a body of water on one side or the other. Lots of Vast open uninhabited land in Scotland as well. If I lived there I think I would be moving out to those Vast uninhabited acres of land and starting a huge farm. How great would it be to raise vegetables and animals in all those wide open fields and there would always be plenty of access to water.
Wow! Your videos are inspiring! Inspiring me to head to Scotland asap! Absolutely beautiful :-)
enjoy
Love the music with the magic landscape... from Portugal!
