"In the Year 2525 (Exordium & Terminus)" is a 1969 hit song by the American pop-rock duo of Zager and Evans. It reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for six weeks commencing July 12, 1969. It peaked at number one in the UK Singles Chart for three weeks in August and September that year. The song was written and composed by Rick Evans in 1964 and originally released on a small regional record label (Truth Records) in 1968. It was later picked up by RCA Records. Zager and Evans disbanded in 1971.
Zager and Evans were a one-hit wonder, never releasing another charting single. This occurred in both the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and the UK Singles Chart and as of 2021, they are the only recording artists ever to have a chart-topping number one hit on both sides of the Atlantic and never have another Billboard charting single in the US or the UK for the rest of their career. Their follow-up single on RCA Victor, "Mr. Turnkey", reached number 48 in the Canadian pop charts and number 41 in the Canadian AC chart. I was born in 69 and I never cared for my dad's era of music. But in the 90s I worked at a 50s & 60s diner for 5 years. I heard this song for the first time.
I went to my dad that week and told him that I got it. I got him. I knew.
And that's the first time your dad yelled at you and asked you if you were messin with that whacky weed or what? Talkin like that to him.
I never understood why this was their only charting recording. The days of great music. I've always thought this was hauntingly prophetic. Back then, who would have thought things mentioned in the song would be our life today? ☮💜☮

I'll never forget standing in front of the amp and watching a live performance of this in 1969 in Atlanta. It may have been a cover or it may have been them I don't know. I do remember all of us were profoundly silent as we walked away. The message was clear. This was no joke.

@@swmita The IVF and the procedures related to helping a woman to have a baby are a good thing, and people should have those options available I believe. What causes my concern is cloning, and any of the ethical issues surrounding such. Scary stuff in the wrong hands I think.

Yes! Since I was a teen, I believed whether Zager & Evans knew it or not this song was meant to reach the consciousness of millions of people. That it foretold of the times we're in now and still to come.

I had just graduated high school in 1969 when this song came out at the beginning of the summer. Even then we could see things starting to happen, but little did we know that the 10,000 year projection they prophesied in that song would come to fruition in 50 years.😢
