Did this job in the evening in the garage. Accidentally snapped one of the top bolts. Good thing they were just press fit in and I pulled one from the old one. Close call. 😅@@M2Motoring
I love videos like this. I stopped working on cars when I had a 2000 VW Golf because it was too difficult (for me), but Scion xBs are ridiculously easy to work on and your video proves that yet again. At 253k miles and counting 😊
Thank Dude my box is in dire need of new shocks and strutsits a 05 and still rolling on the factory ones going with coil overs all the way around. You were a big help with this project I didn't think like other videos showed of taking out all the hood cowl ,you saved me a lot of wrench time. Thanks.
Thank you, this was helpful for my 2005 and 2006 Gen I xBs. I like that you did both front and rear. I'm wanting to lift the rear 2" or 3" to tow a Harbor Freight trailer without it scraping, and my 2005 I already have new struts and need to install them. It's good to see how you approach this job.
You’re welcome and glad the content is helpful. I don’t know if they make it anymore but look at airlift’s tow leveling kit for the rear. I believe they use to have a setup that fit the xb that goes in the rear and can be airred up to level out for towing.
If i like the stock height i most likely only need a new strut right? Lots if miles and im sure its all original. They just suck over speed bumps and the rude is rough.
How’s the KYB - Excel - G shocks and struts going so far? Are they a little firm as others said? How’s the body roll with them? And how much u pay for a set? Maybe around $330?
Hi . It’s going well. In terms of firmness with the oem springs , I honestly wouldn’t know as I’m on lowering springs. My shocks prior were all blown so this is a far better refresh. It doesn’t seem firm to me but rather it helps eliminate some of the sloppiness of the oem springs. There’s still body roll as it’s a regular shock and lowering spring combo but much better than oem. I forgot what I paid as this video was done a while back but kyb had a rebate promotion so if I remember correctly, about $150-200.
@@M2Motoring oh no shit. I bet that was fun back then. The KYB excel G shocks and struts are an excellent oem replacement. I honestly wish if KYB makes monotube shocks like Gas-a-just for all models.. Even if it’s not huge demand. So my next question is, why choose KYB over other brand?
@@M2Motoring u only get them with just shocks and struts and not the strut plus? I know those are sweet set: but I heard some people had bad experience with a front strut plus.
Also have you upgrade with automotive led lights for your interior and exterior? If not, is there’s something urgent looking for something that’s super bright, reliable? If not, I can help u to find the right ones for you: 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I have led bulbs for the headlights already. The interior dome light I’ve left stock and aren’t really looking to upgrade. But thank you for the offer.
I just saw this after I replied. The one trick I do is use a lflat head to push through the hole and the hole on the knuckle and use that to help align . If the knuckle is out of sorts you’ll have to move it a little and get it back into its spot
Hi thanks for the comment. aside from actually showing myself turning a wrench , I’m pretty sure I explained the socket sizes and tools needed. I need both hands to work and it’s just me with a camera 99% of the time
Thank you so much for the documentation. I still mostly daily the Box as well.
You’re welcome! It’s a great daily.

Mine is almost at 200k. Not too far behind! Did you get your 200k mile club sticker from Toyota yet?
@@M2Motoring I had not heard about that til you said something, but I emailed them a pic this afternoon!
👍🏻 heck yeah!

Kenneth thanks for watching the video and glad it helped!
The toyota echo trick is smart! Thanks for the videos learning a bunch.

What wheels are you running? I just bought an 04 xb and these are some of the nicest wheels I’ve come across.
Hi Christopher. They’re Xxr wheels 16x8 +20. Shoot us an email can definitely help you get a set info@m2-motoring.com 👍🏻

Yes just struts would be fine imho.

Nice profile photo btw. I helped with the actual real car way back in the day 😀

Just a brand I’ve been using forever on various cars and I’ve never had a band experience with them. They’re a great value for what you get brand.

@@M2Motoring not a problem at all.
Do u like the warm light color temperature of the interior incandescent bulb lights?
Doesn’t matter to me to be honest .
What are the extra gages on your dash?
Hi one is water temp and one is volt. Previous owner installed them. Water temp comes in Handy since the xb doesn’t have one
How long should they last?
Hi. Depends on how you drive. I would say on average shocks are good for about 60-80k miles .
@ thank you for replying. My 2015 has 60,000 and needs a replacement. It has been such a fun car and has had very few issues.
ever used the car as a spring compressor? ;)
Yes. Sketchy 😂
I dont know why but i cant get the the struct to align back with the two bolts.

@M2Motoring thank you for the advice. The problem was I only had one side jacked up and the sway bar prevents the struct to align correctly.
@@eddieyan5529 ahhh ok. Yes that would give you an issue.
witch year echo are you talking about? mine is 2006 xB

How did you get the strut back in? Is there a trick I'm missing?
