We just finished up our 14 footer. Tip on painting. Forget the spray cans. 1qt of rustoleum white tinted with a bit of black for a nice light grey color. Small foam roller and lay it on. A quart will give you 3-4 nice coats for a beautiful finish !!!
@@Scubasteve118 Just get yourself a plastic paint cup, enough white to cover what you’re painting, figure 3 coats. Then take a pint of black and keep slowly adding and mixing until you get the shade of grey you want. I have pictures but no idea how to get them to you 😃😃
HELL YES!!, For the love of God and our Savior sweet Jesus, I have finally found you fellers. Actual real dudes doing their thing without the hoopla and an ass load of crappy music. Makes my day. I'm redoing a 12' boat my Dad gave me, and what you guys have going is spot on to what I have in my mind. Thank you and I will return 🙂
I just acquired a 1965 Lone Star vehicle built here in Grand Prairie where I live which is crazy but anyways the front to benches are gone and I have the back bench which I'll probably leave but I have the whole front all the way to the nose mine's also a v hull and I sealed and painted the outside black and red two tone it looks dope and I'm running the wiring for lights but I was going to have some kind of a floating floor and build a seating area and possibly a small deck up front to put a chair to fish off of but be able to remove if I want so I'm learning from your video
7:34 I don’t like how he subtly flipped us all off. Good build, just wish it didn’t have to happen with the middle finger. All jokes here lol love what y’all did
Ribs first your method works but its like spreading peanut butter over jelly . keep up the good work dosent matter how you run the race as long as you cross the finish line.
I' did one like this , then had an accident with head trauma. By doing it this way , n removing the seats , do you have flexing in the gunnels ??? The seats add a lotta support to an aluminum boat. My boat is still in about 90% finished state , and has been for around 4,-5 years. Hopefully soon I can get active Enuff to get it 💯% finished , and be on the water soon.
Guys please wear safety glasses. You only get 2 eyes and they are quite helpful to keep them both in good operational condition. Otherwise great video.
That is the same boat I have. What is the make and modal of this boat? I also want to put a floor in mine but I'm concerned about the added weight. The only difference between yours and mine is the transom is cut down 4" to fit a short shaft 25 HP 4 stroke Mercury motor that is 140 LB. Please let me know what you think, thanks.
I’m unsure of the make and model. It’s a 1660. The added weight shouldn’t be a problem depending on what your weight capacity is and what all you are adding to the boat. If you still have the data plate for the boat it will tell you mad weight and all that. With that being said though since it’s all aluminum it’s not a whole lot of added weight. The heaviest part is the .063 sheet aluminum.
Thanks for replying. The information plate is so worn and faded it was hard to read, but I found a website that sells replacement plate for the boat. It is manufactured by Mirro Marine Division Oconto, Wisconsin Model F-3616 Max HP 35, Max weight persons 600, Max weight persons motor and gear 950@@SlaunchOutdoors
This is what i needed a video of! Im gonna be doing something like this to a 1966 Mirrocraft 14ft deep fisherman just like yalls but mines the natural finish instead of the teal finish. What year and model yall got? New sub to your channel from Lebanon Tn
if the old framing is solid, you could possibly use that to build off of it. We would need some more info. You can message us on our IG with a couple pics and we can give you some feedback.
With no paint below the subfloor, aren’t you worried about corrosion below deck? If it’s used in salt (my build will be) then corrosion is a big issue I’m worried about. Working on pulling the subfloor on my boat (had been added by previous owner) and pulling all the foam just to apply a thick paint protection of the aluminum. Last thing I want is to put Money and time in something only to drop it at the dump a year later.
it wasn't going to be used in salt water. We probably should have painted the entire thing is hide sight but it did have a coating on it. Just didn't look pretty
The main reason I do it is 1) it gives you a better surface to build onto especially in a Vhull. It also allows you to hide a lot of your hoses and has the water drain and run back so your feet stay dry. As well as a couple other reasons but that’s a couple.
We are going to have the outside either wrapped or painted with a higher end paint. The inside we will be using spray paint. We are going to sand down and buff everything down to nearly bare metal. There are some small chips in the old paint and that doesn’t look good.
Awesome build! Are you using sealed blind rivets or are none of your rivets going through the hull for your bottom and side supports? How will you prevent any leaks for rivets that need to go through the hull?
Not really sure what your going there. I must be a beginner beginner beginner. But you guys are better craftsmen than me. I think I’m done with you tube. It’s keeping me from fishing

Sheet metal was around 500ish. Hatches were 1100 and the framing was about 800 I think. It’s been awhile though so numbers might be off. Check out tbnation.net for current pricing.

I totally agree

How in the world can you put the first twelve words of your response together? That’s deplorable and blasphemous. But nice work on the boat guys!

This was the first full build we did so we definitely figured out some better ways to do it. it was a learning experience.
Wow if u guys pulled this off I could definitely put together my own build with a 12 pack 😂
Little creativity and some patience and you got it

You do lose strength when you remove the seats but when you frame it it adds more strength than what it originally had. Hope you can get it finished.
Good job
Thanks man
Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks
Sweet!
Looking nice Im doing this soon just got done washing cleaning the hull v14
Good luck!
Very similar to my deep fisherman, quick question do the seats contribute to the structure of the boat? I’d like to do something similar
The original seats do but as you build the subfloor and the decking it will add more stability that stock seats

PERFECT

Trying to figure out how to set my simi v up. I'm rather new to it, I'm wanting to open the floor up.
Check out fireant boats and tiny boat nation!
Is the transom set up for a long or short shaft? looks like a short transom filled in for a long shaft outboard? Thanks guys.
It was set up for long shaft I believe.

We actually dont know that model lol but thanks for watching Chris. Have fun on you build and glad we could help.
Are you guys using 1 1/2" angle or 2" on the hull frame pieces?
1.5!
How thick was the aluminum you used?
Sheets are .090
What boat is that? I AM RE DOING MINE RIGHT NOW.
No idea lol the guy we bought it from didnt know either.
Are you confident that without original seats that the hull won’t fold like a taco in heavy water?
Yes very. With the framing we did it is more structurally sound than it was before we bought it.
I just took the deck in off of my 16ft V and the old framing is riveted through the boat, what do I do
if the old framing is solid, you could possibly use that to build off of it. We would need some more info. You can message us on our IG with a couple pics and we can give you some feedback.

Not necessary in fresh water.
Next boat set working draw or prototype
Huh?
Any thoughts on how removing the seats affected structural integrity of the gunnels? ie is it flimsier now?
It actually sturdier now that its complete.
@@SlaunchOutdoors can you show a pic of the finished boat? Thanks
Do you have the capacity plate info for that?
It didnt have one when we got it. Pretty sure its old enough to not be regulated to have one.
Is this a mirrocraft? I have a 79 I’m redoing. Wintertime is stalling my progress.
We aren't sure of the make. Unless you're hunting winter time is the perfect time for boat progress.

Noticed the boat said SC, is that where you guys are from?
We are from GA the guy just moved to Georgia shortly before we bought it and we haven’t updated the stickers yet.
@@SlaunchOutdoors either way you guys earned a sub. I totally enjoy what you guys are doing.
What can I do with a shallow well jon boat? The sides are literally like 16 in.
Honestly storage will be minimal so other than putting a deck there’s not many options.
What size is those aluminium do framing please
1/16 angle and 1/2 square tubing
1/16 aluminum angle or 1/8?
1/16
Hey what’s the length width etc. of your boat?
16ft x 60”
How’s that 25hp push that thing what size prop?
Couldn’t tell you
What kind of spray paint were you using? Any prep before spraying? Great video! Looking forward to more.
We are going to have the outside either wrapped or painted with a higher end paint. The inside we will be using spray paint. We are going to sand down and buff everything down to nearly bare metal. There are some small chips in the old paint and that doesn’t look good.
are those rivets strong?????
They are but if you can help it always put more than one on supports just to lessen the strain on individual rivets.
Awesome build! Are you using sealed blind rivets or are none of your rivets going through the hull for your bottom and side supports? How will you prevent any leaks for rivets that need to go through the hull?
Thanks! We are getting it wrapped!
Also no rivets through the bottom. They’re through the ribs in the bottom which are internal
@@SlaunchOutdoors nice!
@@SlaunchOutdoors that’s really smart, nice planning! Thank you for your time, awesome build!
How far did you drill into the ribs on the bottom, what depth? Also what size rivets did you use to anchor the supporting brackets? Thanks!
What color and paint is the outside?
I believe it was the OG paint. It’s kinda a Tiffany blue but honestly I have no idea.
how much did all of that aluminum cost?
We never sat down and did the math unfortunately
What's the name of the rivet gun
Milwaukee
Cool. Did you add two more brackets to the transom? Was that because you added a heavier motor like a 4 stroke?
Don’t understand your question
Those are standard transom brackets on the older mirrocrafts
How thick is the floor
The sheet metal is .090” thick
🍪
What is make and model of boat?
It looks like a mirrocraft 16’ deep fisherman
We have no idea
Cover the motor!
And why would we do that?
Try voice over instructional videos.
I probably will at some point
Wear P100 respirator mask.... I didn't while spraying my 19' 1964 Texan and caused severe lung illness that lasted over a year. Just saying...
