I agree, and hopefully the upgraded design lasts longer. Having said that, these seals lasted for 1000 hours over a 20 year period while successfully keeping the dirt out, they paid for themselves.
You did such a great job showing and explaining things that I wish you was fixing a L3400. From what I see that seal plug on bottom of spindle dont have come out to take snap-ring out on L3400, snap-ring comes out the side after the outer ring come off. Maybe both ways will work but I dont want to take apart more then needed to replace seals because then more seals have to be replaced and they are already expensive.... My L3400 front knuckle seals have been seeping since 800 hr so with couple bottles of [ ATP AT-205 Re-Seal ] I got by with no leaks, but now they are leaking lot worse after 1,500 hr, so they need replacing.........
You have a point about not taking more things apart than necessary. Personally I was willing to buy a seal if it meant I could replace them while standing up. There is also the benefit of checking condition of other components. At the end of the day, seals have a lifespan and mine had paid for themselves.
I have a 94 3600 with seals that started leaking years ago. Never replaced them but I did get rid of the super udt and went with cheaper gear oil and it seeps a little but never enough to refill between fluid changes. After watching you I just may give it a go one of these days. A valuable vid I thank you
It really isn't hard, these Kubota are really designed with a mechanic in mind and they come apart and go together easily. Leaks are really annoying to me and I dislike oil spots on the floor.
Good video makes a whole lot more sense taking the 4 bolts out of the axle and and getting those snap rings off I have a L2500 front axle thats leaking and needing new seals
I used Traveller Universal from Tractor Supply Company. It is supposed to be a good alternative for Kubota UDT and heaps cheaper. My L2900 is not an HST though which would need UDT2.
I changed seals on both sides of both front and rear axles and used genuine Kubota parts, so the prices were high, around $300 for seals alone. I needed 12 gallons of the oil for both axles.

Thanks! For sure, I am too old to be working upside down in the dirt, struggling to remove stubborn snap rings by feel.

You got a good deal. My local- Yocal dealer wanted $117.00 just for the one large front seal.
