If the rest of the world mandates EVs then perhaps, nobody makes money making EVs, so it's all about who can throw the most public money at them, and that's going to be the CCP- already half a trillion $ by some estimates. But where mandates are struck down, China can't compete very well building normal cars, IC technology is a lot more sophisticated than wiring up some batteries to a motor.

@@alexmckenna1171 totally wrong : after 10 years if standard flex fuel lines are not replaced or are damaged by rodents, a gasoline car may catch on fire while lacking this proper maintenance and this occurs therefore only on old cars . On many quality modern cars, the flex fuel lines are armoured and good for life time of 15-25 years and 300.000 to 500.000 kms but can still be changed or pressure tested each 10 years for safety..
While it takes air with fuel to cause a fire on a thermal vehicle, an EV lithium charged battery stores airless ALL the energy for 400 kms inside…and in case of a short circuit within one element or between two elements due to a shock or accident, fires are frequent and any damaged EV should be first discharge or transported extremely slowly..a signed responsibility disclaimer discharge is requested from the owner by most towing companies or garages before touching a damaged EV or PHEV, but also, it can take as short as 3 years of service for the lithium battery impedance to increase sufficiently for an excessive charging current to cause overheating. Most lithium fire recent recalls such as Samsung note 7, BYD E6 taxis, B767, TMS Plaid, etc were due to faulty BMS mismanaging batteries ageing and capacity loss..today, about 6 Ev burn per day in China and they are NOT old cars..and lithium fires, like sodium or magnesium fires cannot be stopped with water foam CO2 Halon gaz or powder and typically result is a full destruction while racing cars accidental fires are stopped fast and easy. This is simply NOT comparable…Now, most car “spontaneous “ fire pictured in local newspapers (while type of vehicle is not specified on purpose not to scare owners,) are EV and exceptionally hybrids and old thermal cars . Your 10 times ratio is just an urban legend for naive geeks..One issue is that insurance premiums do no reflect this liability for any prevention to take place, in case the recent ferry fires and destruction would be charge to the vehicle type which initiated the fire instead of being spreaded on all the goods transport and ship insurances going up… then the corresponding EV type liability insurance would be excessive or not available…and this EV type would become basically unsellable….and the current market collapse is also basically deciding it…and came to the same conclusion.

Evs don't explode - that's what petrol vehicles do. Statistics prove that petrol vehicles catch fire far more - ten times more - than EVs. These fires never get into the papers because they are so common.

This is one with an LFP battery which is very unlikely to self-combust. So no more toxic fireworks as these (hopefully) replace the NMC battery powered buses.

@@alexmckenna1171Diesel fires are generally just too easy to put out to make the news.
NMC battery powered EV's tend to set themselves on fire when they are too hot, overcharged, hit anything or just one of the thousands of cells was not quite perfect out of the factory.
NMC is just too unstable. The solar industry has basically abandoned it and switches to the much safer LFP battery chemistry without a highly toxic content like Cobalt.
