I was first introduced to F-Zero with X I got for christmas as a kid. Been a fan of the series to this day. I still dig out my gamecube and n64 to play X and GX when I get that itch to play. Nothing comes close to F-Zero, some games may come close, but imo the comic book characters and charm, tight controls and the sheer feeling of speed has never been replicated since GX.

I love how in GX every one of the 40 characters has their own theme song.
Like, it was completely unnecessary and superfluous... but they still did it.
If that's not a testament to the amount of love and care that was put into that game I don't know what it is. Heck, some of the themes actually slapped. Hard.

I cant agree with putting Maximim Velovity. Its one of the best ones in series imo. The music, difficulty and Graphics are way better than the original. The 3d was much better. Try tapping the gas when turning. It was something I learned early on. Adding the paddles for turns. Its incredible taking turns at boosted speed and making the hairpin turns. Ive played the sequel in advance and it's good but I prefer MV

Absolutely! Solid 3rd place after GX and X in my book. It really perfected the formula of the SNES original in every way, and does indeed control like a dream once it clicks. I'd unfortunately place GP Legend at the bottom; trivially easy in Grand Prix mode which makes every race almost feel like an empty time trial. It's got everything else going for it, but the lack of "thrill" makes it the most unmemorable of the bunch imo

I'm just saying, Nintendo Switch was much improved after they put F-Zero X on Switch Online. However, a NEWER one is what every last F-Zero fan wants. While each of the games are great, they treat F-Zero like used laundry. Every now and again, they wash and dry it and give it back to us. Sadly though, each time some of the games come back, they are worse off than a previous rerelease (especially in X's case, if you think back on the controls...okay only in X's case). Nintendo's business aside though, F-Zero fans like yourself should also consider checking out the indie scene. Many F-Zero fans today are much like disgruntled Pokémon fans and really could help themselves by checking out say...Aero GPX, Super Pilot, or Ballistic NG's F-Zero mods (even though it's more like the classic Wipeout games).
That said, it's pretty hard to find a bad F-Zero game.

Good ranking, as you stated there’s no bad f zero game they’re all actually pretty good. F zero climax is definitely the best of the 3 gba f zero games, it’s basically gp legend with more content and it sucks that it was only released in Japan. F zero AX arcade is just as fun as f zero gx. The satellaview f zero games are fun as well, kind of like dlc before dlc was a thing and I love the commentary in those games. I never played f zero expansion for the 64dd but it did add 12 extra tracks to an already excellent F zero X game (my personal favorite game of the series)

    my top 3 would be:
    3. Climax
    2. GX/AX
    1. X
Climax was just GP legends but better. X is top because it has the best physics. I played a lot of X growing up and GX never really felt like an upgrade to me, it feels slow in comparison to X, probably because in GX the tracks are much wider and longer and the machines have less inertia behind them. I really like how they expanded on the storyline and characters in GX though, it's worth playing just for the humour alone.

As a diehard F-zero fan, its all about the gameplay and racing mechanics. Its the hardcore of hardcore racing games, the dark souls of racing. Its ball blistering, white knuckle, skin of your teeth racing where even the best cant slam dunk a grand prix every time, and you're always going to be crossing the finish line neck and neck with your competition. A brutal race with no tolerance for errors or failures, which always means your heart is pumping, your nerves are firing, and your muscles are shaking. You're always on the edge of exploding, because you have to exchange your energy/healthbar for speed boosts, and so you're always running low on energy. One bump from a competitor, a slight hit on the wall which slows you down and takes your energy, means you need to use even more boost to catchup or stay ahead. Its a game that does not forgive even slight errors. Imagine playing the hardest grand prix of mariokart, but you cant fall once, you cant hit the walls ever, and the AI is out to destroy you. Thats F-zero. I dont mind a strange deviation, so long as the CORE gameplay is ON POINT and solid. No die hard fan of F-zero will criticize some strange mini missions or whatever so long as the core gameplay and mechanics are good. F-Zero fans are clammering for a new game because none of the other arcade racers offer that same sense of speed and precision. F-Zero is exceptionally tight and fast responding, unlike Wiepout or Extreme G which feels more like you're piloting a clunky boat, F-Zero machines respond instantly, with instant consequences. This puts all the power in the hands of the player, and any mistakes they make, every crash, they own up as their fault. There is nothing worse in a racing game than feeling powerless and out of control. F-Zero puts more power and control in your hands than any other game, and its sense of speed is virtually unmatched, and by a long shot. The controls and game mechanics are exceptionally unique even within its own genre. Now here's what I want to see in a new F-zero.
1: I want to see virtual reality first person compatability, cockpit/pilot perspective with the ability to look around bends and turns.
2: I want to see the return of the X-cup, randomly generated tracks that are unpredictable every time.
3: I want to see the track creator and editor, with a way to share tracks via internet like mariomaker, and among friends. One could even create their own custom Grand Prix cups.
3: Custom machine making and skins/paint is cool, its personally not my thing but it would be nice to see that return from GX
4: I want at least 30 players online per race, in both single race and grand prix mode. I want a system like in Mariokart Wii where it keeps track of your win/loss ratio, online cups won, global rank, etc. That would be fucking awesome.
5: I want to see a return of the "death race" mode with online compatability, again 30 racers per match. The death race was nixed in GX, but was good in F-zero X, and online with real humans it would be amazing.
There are genuine ways to take the series to the next level, by simply combining all the elements of the previous F-zero games, taking the best and combining all the features.
As far as aesthetics and music choice is concerned, there are two types of F-zero players. Those that like jazz and techno, and those that SHRED the METAL. The F-zero X aesthetics is very unique, most arcade racers are some kind of futuristic techno cyberpunk type of aesthetics in both art and music, F-Zero GX being no exception. But F-Zero X's aesthetics, both in the music and art direction, were on point and very unique. Think "Judge Dredd" and "Heavy Metal Magazine" in one, classic American Adult comic book art. Take this into a game like F-Zero, use hand painted/drawn character selection screens rather than 3D models (kind of like how Melee eschewed the animated 3D models used for the character select screen in Smash 64, and instead went for a static poster-like image), and tell the story mode by "unlocking" pages in the comic book, which can be read through and then takes you to the next mission in the story mode to play through. This would cut costs in that drawing a comic book is cheaper than animating a story, and can allow a much more in depth, longer, and unique story to be told. This is also a callback to the first F-zero game, which came with a printed miniature comic book in addition to the manual.
Dont get me wrong, techno is great. But for rocket car metal death racing, heavy metal is hard to beat. The Guitar Arrange album for F-Zero X is amazing. It also sets the series wholly unique aesthetically and emotionally from all other arcade racers. Combine all of this with the tight controls and blistering speeds no other racing game has ever made, and its a winner,

1 would need to have a game to be a thing but having a first view play with a controller in hand would be interesting.
2 can't go without 3. The reason X Cup worked was because the track creator was supposed to be officially in until the 64DD was cancelled. Was nice to race on randomly generated tracks though. Too bad the track creator was in the Japan only Climax... And yes, I know Google is our friend, lol.
I'm one of those who'd want to see 4. In fact, not only would I want to see the vehicle creator, I'd want a pilot creator to it as well (not as a Mii though, they can be on the starting line as the crowd, lol).
5 is the one I'm the most iffy about. While yes, Online Play is a must, with Nintendo's rep with online servers, 30 would be rough so I'd put in (at the very least) half (15/16 maybe 20). But I'll agree about the idea of Cups and Event.
6 can be there, knowing it exists.
We fans are hungry for a new game, so any ideas do indeed put our hopes up and with the recent rumors of a GX remake for Switch, the yearly hype grows.

F-Zero X will be my favorite forever just for 1 simply reason: Difficulty.
At Master mode you had to play against your 'history canonically' Rivals (3 players) always chasing your ass, and the Leader Rivals, those who started the first race of the cup on Top places and next races were going to start with boost power to reach the top. F-Zero GX had not this difficulty, the races even in Master were very easy because you hadn't rivals who were going to fight for the first place of the races

beginner: learn the physics and the tracks, have fun
      medium: now learn the tactics
expert: now learn how to drive dirty
master: learn to understand the relationships of the characters.
i hate, that i never beat jack on master till today, but oh boy, it felt so good, to master the other 3 cups, and use the rivalery and the friendship of the charakters for your advantage. i usualy race with jody.. if dr. stewerd is your rival, its such fun to race against him on the front, or how falcon try to clear your way, if he is not your rival and fights not for a podium. its not just the rivals, also your friends, that make x such a great game.

  • @VestedUTuber
    @VestedUTuber 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Ok... you claimed that the Blue Falcon isn't in Maximum Velocity. Have you beaten any of the cups on Master difficulty yet? Because that's how you unlock that game's version of the Blue Falcon, the Falcon MKII. Which, by the way, makes an appearance in your video as an AI car at 3:08. Also, Maximum Velocity's controls only feel slippery if you're using a machine with low turn balance, like the Wind Walker. I used to speedrun this game and we use the Jet Vermilion (a secret machine unlocked either by completing every cup on every difficulty with every machine, completing Championship mode 255 times, or by going to a website to generate a password to use with the password system) for almost every course in the game, and it's actually a very tight-feeling machine, albeit with stiff handling that requires you to master drifting to get the most out of it.
As for GP Legend, the only reason why it feels faster than the other 2D games is because the courses are downscaled compared to the previous 2D games. Personally, despite porting developments from the 3D games into the 2D formula I feel this is the weakest game due to its mismatch between machine balance and course design, its weak AI and its lackluster story mode. To elaborate specifically on the machine balance and course design issue, a lot of the heavier machines are very stiff and can't turn very well, but GP Legend heavily nerfed the drift mechanics of Maximum Velocity to the point of only being useable with E-grip machines, so unlike with Jet Vermilion in Maximum Velocity you can't really use drifting to compensate for a poor turn rate with the machines that actually need it. This is especially noticeable with Black Shadow's story since you have to race against Rick Wheeler on White Land: Flower II and Black Bull physically cannot make some of the turns on that track without hitting walls.
Side note, you're the first person I've ever heard describe GP Legend as a difficult game. I mean, it's not like it's super easy, it does have its moments, but it's still the easiest game in the series.

    • @VestedUTuber
      @VestedUTuber 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

The thing with F-Zero X's X cup was that it was only really doable because of how course data was stored in the game data. F-Zero X stores its courses as a series of control point coordinates and parameters, and then procedurally generates those courses into 3D meshes on runtime. This was to save space on the cartridge, but the side effect was the relatively simplistic nature of the various courses in the game. F-Zero GX, on the other hand, stores its courses as fully modeled 3D meshes. The result is far more polished and far more complex tracks, but you can't really generate them on the fly like you could with F-Zero X's coordinate system.

Just found there was an f-zero 2 on the original snes. And I been around since the snes days. Have my wii modded and was going through my snes game set on it the other night and decided to play some f zero and saw f zero 2. Thought maybe it was a romhack, played it, its awesome, did a google search and found it was a legit game. Amazing!! Agree 💯 % we need a new f zero. As good as gx/ax is, imagine what they could do now 20 years later than that????

"imagine what they could do now 20 years later than that?"
I can and it's not really any better than GX unless they bring SEGA in again. The problem is that GX was WAY ahead of its time and really pushed the Gamecube to its limits, using every single optimization trick SEGA and Amusement Vision knew for that platform (keep in mind the Gamecube itself was co-developed by SEGA, using hardware intended for SEGA's arcade boards of the time). This is something SEGA has a lot of experience with since they also develop arcade hardware and games, whereas Nintendo doesn't, and it kinda shows. Nintendo doesn't even have the source code for GX, they were fully hands-off during GX's development to the point where GX might as well have been a SEGA game in its entirety.
For comparison, on _PC,_ developers are only now managing to catch up to GX with games like Aero GPX and XF eXtreme Formula. And GX was THE hardest game to get working in emulators due to how it interacted with the Gamecube's hardware.

By the way, F-Zero on the SNES wasn't multiplayer because the tracks were too large to fit into the SNES memory at once, so anything far away from the camera was removed from memory. With two players you would have had two cameras, which can see more of the track at once.

GX had some terrible tracks due to gimmicks introduced that simply interrupted the racing flow. F-Zero is about sustained speed on fiendish courses, not trying to avoid obstacles or be launched by stupid bumps and disappearing sections of tracks. Whereas on X, almost every track was a classic because they maintained that ethos of sustained speed and racing purity.
GX had some boring tracks too, like one of the Casino ones and Cosmo Terminal. It's definitely worth being ported to a modern console because it still looks really good. As for a remake, X is the best and most deserving candidate.
I'd rate GX third or fourth. I can't remember the GBA ones too well so GX is difficult to place in that context. X is best by far then I'd go for the SNES original.

i personaly rank x over gx. gx is sega in every corner of the game. the game looks fantastic, its fast a.f.. but it feels not right, to arcade, to hectic. its one of the best sega games out there and one of the best of the game cube. but it dont have this special style, that x have. x have this unique style, and this well balanced gameplay that is unmatched in the series in my opinion. also the humor on gx is, in my opintion a bit to on the nose (and, again 100% sega), it misses in my opinion, the character developement of x and the gba titles (and the comics and the anime) - despite the grafics, the f zero universe is sometimes extremly dark and the game is supricingly griddy and brutal. the sillyness of the dispictions of charakters like Falcon oder Jody fells more like a mockery of the franchise.. only draq is nailed perfectly in my opinion
