Silly Putty is my go to for masking paint. Cheaper and comes off with no issues, plus softer and more pliable that Blu-tack.

Beautiful job. Now do some Tamiya German planes. The me 262 or the fw 190 would be good.

My girlfriend bought me this for Christmas. I've never built a model like this before so I'm a total noob. 💀I bought all the tools but I'm not wanting to mess it up because of how thoughtful, expensive, and very _detailed_ it seems. So, I figured I'd check out TH-cam to get some idea of what I should do. Thanks for the video man.

No problem hopfully it helps! Also. It's very simple just do one thing at a time and you'll get there. Tamiya makes it simple

That’s a highly detailed kit! Quite different from the Monogram/Revell range you used to build. Excellent built model ✨👍✨

Terrific job on the 38...really enjoyable video filled with tips/techniques and great commentary. You must be very happy with the final result...it looks amazing this side of the screen.
Apparently the lines around the nose and engines etc were created by tape (not sure which) to prevent salt corrosion of internal components when the planes were shipped overseas.

Thank you so much! Ohh yeahh the hard work was worth it and those tape lines are the cherry on top! Thanks for watching!!

Nice work. I believe the lighter lines on the panel were by shipping tape. The aircraft were transported by sea and the tape was put on to prevent corrosion between the panels and getting inside the machine. You seem to have pulled it off (excuse pun!) Nicely.

Thanks for commenting! That's great info! Yes the shipping tape makes total sense!

If you look at the pattern in the packing tape, it was mostly to seal the engine access areas and gunbays.

Nice work! I've got the P-38J itching to be built, but it will probably be a while.

Thanks! It's so worth it to just drop everything and build it. It was such a nice kit

The lines in the olive drab were from packing tape used to make the Lightnings more saltwater resistant when being shipped by sea.

The Stripes you have seen on Pictures is because before they shipped the Aircrafts over the Ocean, they have sealed the Panel Lines, to avoid Corrosion, which could happen from the very salty Water.

A better method of weathering is use a dry brush instead of wiping it of that way you can use more of your wash in other places

Should work on your decal application. Silvering ruins an otherwise nice model you have completed.

I fixed it later poked some holes in it and put some decal solution in there. I just had to finish to get the video out
