Hi Bush. Marcos here. Thanks again for the Spanish mackerel. I caught one that day and while on the ground unhooked an osprey came down and flew away with it. Funny moment, didn’t see it coming. Bush was nice enough to let me have one of his as my luck ran out at the end. Thanks for all your help in the middle of all that chaos. He taught me a few things. So thanks again Bush 👍

I grew up here. I was 20 when the Skyway went down. It's nice that they left that part for us to fish from. That area out there has some great fishing. A deep channel and plenty of water movement with the tides. You can even catch grouper out there and if you have a boat, you can fish the the channel ledges for grouper. Right now the tarpon are on fire out there.

I'm in Texas, but never had much luck from Texas piers. When I was stationed in North Carolina though we caught lots of Bluefish, Mackerel and sharks from the piers. My favorite part was catching baitfish using 4lb mono with several tiny gold hooks tied to it. Just jigging it beside the pilings using bare hooks and catching all the bait we needed. I even got a small Mackerel that went after my bait and got tangled in all the hooks. Had to use the net to haul him up and untangle him. I thought for sure he'd break that 4lb mono! We didn't even know what a Sabiki rig was back then.
Not all piers are good I've been on some that you can't even catch pinfish 😀💪

one of the great things florida does is leave these old piers and roads up when they are replaced like in the keys , they become great fishing spots and hang outs for many fish and don't pollute

I go there alot, MANATEE side. Dont be fooled there are days nothing is hitting. You will rarely see everyone hooking up. Also it is $8.50 plus 1.75 for the toll to get to it. The current changes direction and there is another bridge on the opposite side you have to avoid. There are dolphin that will steal your live bait. It gets noisy from the interstate. The best part is you can have your vehicle near you instead of having to haul your stuff out to the beach or piers.
Got its ups and downs for sure gets expensive 😀💪

@@FishOnChannel , it really is one of the best places that and desoto long pier, it gives people a chance to get really big fish without having a boat , the hard part is getting them up out of the water , I use the tremble hook with a weight and line it’s easier that trying to net them , live bait seems the best bet for big boys , cut bait for snapper, thonny hooked up on snook on greenies but it was windy as heck out there ,I was surprised you didn’t try for grouper 🤔

Great place to fish both times I went caught nice fish, a couple snook one time which I gave to this Asian guy he wanted it, and other time mackerel which I also gave away but still fun, just gotta hit the tide right

Went there yesterday afternoon but same thing had no luck any chance you can make a tutorial on the rigs you using from weights to hooks and set up i feel constantly changing hooks don’t know if im using too small or big I stopped in bass pro before going to the pier and the person i spoke was telling me that there are no Bonitas in the pier lol😂 when clearly you the man I’ll appreciate if you can do like a tutorial on the rigs and the baits thanks for your videos keep it up🫡👍👍
I never have luck on the evening hours I always liked morning. I'll keep that in mind for the future and make tutorial of everything that I use on the pier😀💪

I fish here frequently at night but never catch much. I always use a sinker but wondering if try free line? I usually use a 2 or 3oz but again catching is rare
Cause you’re fishing at night. All you’re gonna get are groupers, snappers, rays and sharks.

I use a dropper rig set up and catch snapper but I don’t use anything more than 3oz. When I don’t use the dropper rig I’ll throw a Split on there or free line bait. I’ve never fished at night tho

the skyway is pretty local to me, and if im doing a full fishing day, its usually my go to if none my my fishing buddies are going out on their boat, or i WANT to go somewhere else.
but the one thing i never understand is how people freeline out there. the current is usually RIPPING every time i go, unless its the hour or so its a slack tide and the tide is changing, in which the water isnt moving and i cant get anything to bite.
are you just not concerned with getting to the bottom? or am i doing something wrong? i can go offshore and slay fish. go to the skyway and do the same thing with the same bait and get skunked every time.
