My brother in law, who is on the autism spectrum, LOVES Macaulay. So much so that he started crying when we watched My Girl, believing he had really died, but calmed down when we showed him a picture of Macaulay and his wife and child, being very happy to see a “mini-Macaulay”
Two quickies. First, the dragon is from a famous piece of British Literature called the Faeire Queen. They even go as far to have books in the creature's stomach because in the story, it vomits books instead of fire. But still, it can be ANY dragon of one doesn't know context so that's ok. Second, I was surprised to see you didn't mention they were going to have the Frankenstein monster in HorrorLand but it got cut. You could see snippets in trailers, video games, novelizations, and video games. I wonder why it got nixed but you can see the thing on the poster! Still, I covered Pagemaster on my webseries and I agree. It's flawed but fun. I feel something got lost in editing. When you look at the novels based on this movie, there is a great deal missing like Richard going against the crocodile from Peter Pan and things like that. It's fine and fun, but it could have been so much more. Thanks for covering it! P.S. This movie made an impact to me because when I got the VHS tape at age 5, the VHS player ate it. We couldn't find a replacement so I kept the memory alive by reading EVERY merchandise licensed novelization out there. Even right down to those books with the noise buttons. The movie did the job well....by having me read licensed novelizations! 😂😂😂😂
The idea of being in a magical library and going into a bunch of different books is a great concept for a movie. Get some glasses and reshave your beard and your Dennis Nedry cosplay will look great, Tony.
Enjoyed the breakdown, I remember enjoying this movie as a kid. Man, technical issues happen. However, I know how irritating it can be to find out AFTER RECORDING AN ENTIRE EPISODE! 😆 I'd be curious to hear your review/discussion of the 90's live action/animation hybrid Cool World
Some movies i insist on owning without desire to rewatch them and this was one, i say was because now im moving it mentally into what i will watch at my earliest convenience!
I remember having the Pagemaster on VHS, it was sold as a double feature with Digimon The Movie. I watched the Digimon on loop, and only watched The Pagemaster once cause as a kid I thought the live action stuff was boring. Also as a kid I thought it was weird mixing live action and animation for whatever reason.
Also I must say the audio issue while disrupting at first has a charm when you are reviewing a cartoon. So the funny echo can be an homage to the history of animation.
Speaking of the Page Master being the last cel animated movie, the Little Mermaid was the last hand drawn Disney movie to be drawn on hand painted cels.
yay Casey!!!!!, and page master is a secret gem i have always enjoyed, and the audio was echo as heck but at least i could hear her i was more worried that we couldnt hear her
Loved this movie as a kid and rewatched it a year or two ago and it holds up pretty well. I also appreciate its a film about telling kids classic novels are really good
What if he did the mic thing on purpose so that we WOULD comment and drive engagement for the video? I never really comment on anything so I guess it worked. lol
19:44 I agree with Casey! I love all 3 movies. The 3rd one is not the best but I still enjoy it and it has a special place in my heart! The 2nd is my Favorite of the series. 😊😊😊
I had this playing in the backround for 45 mins and I figured that Casey was plugged into the show via a skype call from Mars, but she's sitting right next Tony turns out. 🤭
One of the few animated movies i rented as a kid and fell asleep to. I was always the one watching all the movies, this, i fell asleep to the 2nd time too!
Long time listener, first time commenter. I’ve been looking forward to the video! I remember renting this movie all the time when I was young, and I haven’t thought about it in years. Sadly, the audio was pretty rough. Not only did it ruin the video, but it ruined my entire childhood too. 😫😫😫
I use to LOVE this film as a kid, but when I recently watched (maybe two or three months ago) it put me to sleep more times then I'd like while watching a film... I thought it was boring as fuck... =(
This was a great episode, Tonny from Hack The Movies! I've watched it from start to finish, but I must notice that you have some audio problems here: girl with blond hair sounds like she is a ghost haunting in your studio.
Had this film on VHS when I was a little kid. I watched it multiple times, because that's what kids do, but it certainly isn't a movie I think of very dearly. The animation was good and I do remember liking a lot of the scarier moments, so I guess there's that. It mainly makes me miss good animation more than anything. E: and of course I remember that theme song. It's a banger.
I vividly remember the trailer for this! I thought it looked lame back then and it's still lame now. But I enjoyed it as a kid 😂😂. The Nostalgia Critic review of this still makes me laugh!
Last I saw this I thought Atlas Shrugged in fantasy was a reference to this quote that’s been floating around the internet: “There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old’s life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs." Turns out this was written in 2009…..Page master was ahead of its time.
Oh shit! Tony from Hack the Movies, what’s with this crazy audio? I feel like we should’ve gotten an introduction to brace us Hackoffs for a jarring experience. I can’t watch Pagemaster without Nam flashback now
I have The Pagemaster movie poster hanging framed in my room and my Dungeons & Dragons character is a library mascot wizard named “Pagemaster General” (whose race is changeling so he doesn’t have his government name Nix out there in public). I didn’t know they made Horror plushies, I am jealous.
I vividly remember the trailer for this! Forget what VHS tape I was watching at my nana's at the time, but it did have it on there! Also yay for more casey!!!!
I always figured nostalgia critic only trashed this film as the n.c. character, because anyone who grew up with the 'master obviously loves it. Good show guys.
Libraries: I used to weekly check out "The Official Godzilla Compendium" from my local library. If you visited the Cudahy library from 1998-2000 and couldn't find that book, sorry about that. Side note, I work at a college. I bought and donated a DVD of Dawn of the Dead (OG) a few years ago. I checked up on it recently and didn't find it in stock. Dope! Some student must have checked it out. Nope, the library threw it away.
Honestly, that audio would normally make me skip this video, but because I really like Casey I'll deal with it. You should thank her for being such a likeable person lol.
I was 15 when this came out but still liked (not loved) it. I can't find any evidence of this online now, but at the time, I recall them releasing tie-in reprints of the stories featured. [I don't mean the kidified ones, which I do see on Amazon, but the actual text.] I got and read Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde for the first time and the printing included a watermark or logo or something with the horror book character.
Had this on tape as a kid watched it till the tape wouldn't play anymore fantastic movie regardless of your guys thoughts (posting before watching the full review)
Also if you have Adobe Premiere you could've used the AI audio fixing to make Casey sound closer to how she should it works way better than you'd think and it'll match the tone of the mic you wanted to use just for future reference this is your residential drop out audio engineer

What happened with her audio? Its unusual.
Jk. Lol.

Tony, you did Frank Welker dirty. How could you not mention Megatron or some other of his famous roles? At least get his name right.
May I draw art for the tape master I am asking so I won't be stealing an idea
@amberfoster410 Go ahead
Man the audio is rough, wish someone would’ve warned me beforehand
*throws book at u*

I barely noticed the audio issue. Thank you for doing this one Tony.
How much you wanna bet that Tony mentions that he hung out with Macauley Culkin and called him Keiran Culkin?
I mean they kinda look similar. They're brothers after all 😂😂
Unless I fell asleep (I was lying down while listening) he only mentions it in passing near the very end.
How much you wanna bet you gay?
@@Queefwellington247 Ask you're mom.
This movie is a Trek reunion. Patrick Stewart, Leonard Nimoy, Whoopi was in TNG, Christopher Lloyd was in Star Trek 3, Ed Begley Jr was in ST Voyager
For a second i thought Tony was dressed like Nedry from JP!
That's the raincoat that Macaulay wears!
See nobody cares
casey voice sounds more like an angel now
You should consider doing more animated movie reviews, Tony! There’s something extra magical about it.
Agreed! Animation is cinema after all!
The Pagemaster should have been a TV show. Then they could give them 1 hour to focus on one classical book in each episode.
Two quickies.
First, the dragon is from a famous piece of British Literature called the Faeire Queen. They even go as far to have books in the creature's stomach because in the story, it vomits books instead of fire. But still, it can be ANY dragon of one doesn't know context so that's ok.

@MorganLegerInVaulting i didn't know about the frankenstein monster until after! I'm so mad I didn't double check the trailer before we shot.
@HackTheMovies Eh, it's to be expected. Glad you double checked. Thanks for reading my comment! 💙
This show is cursed by the Frankenstein monster. It keeps on popping up
Tony must've forgot that Christopher Lloyd and Whoopi both were also in Star Trek.
You're right!
Hanging with Tony has officially made Casey swear…the world is ending
The mic being turned the other direction makes Casey sound like she is recording from a bathroom. 😃
The Pagemaster is a very underrated movie.
Came for the comments on the audio. Was not disappointed. 😂
I watched this one quite a bit as a kid. Way underrated IMO.
I like it. I have the Blu-ray. Before my birthday, I remembered the movie and when I went to the store, it was right there on the shelf and I got it.
Bro you should have had Casey dub herself over that'd been hilarious 😂
So now we can all look for Tony’s Seinfeld parody on TH-cam
The idea of being in a magical library and going into a bunch of different books is a great concept for a movie. Get some glasses and reshave your beard and your Dennis Nedry cosplay will look great, Tony.
Ah ah ahhh you didn't say the magic words! 😂
I wonder if Tony noticed Caseys audio had issues throughout the video.

I thought it was fine.
Hell yeah I love pagemaster definitely underrated
even the game was ok
Oh my god! The audio on Casey’s end is ROUGH!
The waters in that ocean are rough! ALMOST AS ROUGH AS THE AUDIO NA'MEEEEEEAAANN?!?!?

Boy, this audio sure is rough! If only there was some sort of message at the start telling me about it, but I was afk in the first 2min.
Oh, well.
I forgot this movie existed, I remember actually liking it a lot as a kid.
But I personally liked "Little Nemo" a bit more at that age.
