Love the podcast, homies. I left a decent-paying career in creative marketing in 2021 to pursue my lifelong dream of making comics. This is the first year I actually have multiple paid gigs lined up. Having you dudes chatting on my side monitor keeps me motivated. Just wanted to say thanks and keep it up!
Congrats!!!
I love Matteo's art, but Eric's and Shawn's is suuuper good too! I would love to see more podcasts like this were they explore the reasoning behind their styles. I also think it would be cool to every now and then showcase the team's artwork in the closing credits. We, the viewers, are potential collectors of all of you three!
Great Ideas! Thank you!
Very insightful! As a life long illustrator who is now trying to pivot (slowly) into the comics world I find this conversation invaluable! Thanks guys!
Thanks for listening!
Thanks guys, you are always super inspiring to listen while I'm drawing or painting!
Great episode. You've achieved the golden ratio of jokes/roasting to creative insights.
AH! That balance! Thank you!
Great conversation. I always tell people at conventions, they ask me "whats the best advice" and I always go back to "enjoy the process and investing in yourself. It will naturally get there". I use to look at ways for a quick fix, getting lost in tutorials, searching for that "thing", but realised that when I trust myself and work on my skills in my own pace and what feels natural, I'll stop fighting against... myself. If that makes sense? It's like Matteo says, I believe in myself and know it'll happen with time, and with that, my skills have grown exponentially compared to before. I used to be a cocky piece of crud, thought I was better than I was. Be humble, be excited to see flaws. It's room to grow.
Eric actually introduced me to Matteo and his art many years ago at a con. It has been awesome to see his work progress. All of the praise is well deserved.
His growth has been amazing to watch!
Awesome podcast, I like listening while I'm working on art stuff. I especially like the stories you guys shared in this one about where you were in your own work.
Save I think high Rez should be purchased. Awesome stuff again fellas!
Excellent episode, guys. Been struggling with my own art lately, so this episode was just what I needed
Thank you!
Shawn you should be proud of that bit with Mahfood, legendary swindle!
lol.😇
Great show guys. Good deep conversation on careers.
Glad you liked it!
Man, I'm gonna save this episode and watch it again everytime I need. You've touched a topic that's very central nowadays, wich is having the right mindset as an artist and being centered with yourself, in a moment where it's so easy to get lost since we are trying to satisfy the algorithm on instagram, editor's expectations when you send them new samples, guessing publishers needs while plotting proposals for them, god, it's so overwhelming that many times the risk is to end up doing nothing, completely blocked because you don't even know who you are anymore, you're just trying and trying everything you can. Maybe it's all for the good, maybe at the end one will be the sum of all the parts, I don't know.
Its a tough game, that's for sure.
Really insightful stuff, especially for me as a guy who's starting out his career within the field of comics.
This episode was definitely eye-opening especially since I've been asking myself these questions of value of career and craft and how they correlate to each other recently. Awesome episode guys!
Im glad it was helpful!
Guys! New Inkpulp Limited Edition Butt Plugs will be available soon! In 'Everything Bagel' flavors and more! Get hyped!
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!
Amazing episode guys!
Thank you so much!
Very insightful episode, thanks guys.
Really great episode!
Confidence, observation, challenging yourself. So much I want to comment on with how beneficial this conversation was.
With that being said. Jamie is the man for that "SHAME" Matteo/ game of thrones edit lol !!!! Well done.
AHAHAHAHA! He's the best! Thanks for listening!
Loved the insight from this episode! thanks guys!
Thanks for listening!
@inkpulp of course! It's part of my studio time every week!
By the way, it would be so cool if you guys would make a comic all togheter. Have you ever thought of that??
Yeah, that would be fun. Maybe one day we will!
Is there anywhere we can see what Matteo did for those contests ?
The confidence game is a hard one. It's odd for me at this point. It's just making work, I dig. Trying a passion for a profession is fucking dangerous. For example, one thing is to cook for your family and friends, and another is to be a chef. I think for some folks, when you make something, it's a fantastic experience, but when you make something for someone else, for money? That's a whole other bag. Is commercial success everything? No. Is it something? Yes. But the artists/creator needs to balance it, and understand themselves before gauging things, because the unprepared or short-sighted will feel and look like shit, or even worse, think they are hot shit when they are cold diarrhea.
It is a difficult game for sure!
when you guys talk about artists who trace, do you mean people who use reference daily or are there artists who actually trace their reference materials on photoshop, over a lightbox etc? thanks.
Using Reference and tracing are two very different things. Tracing is literally tracing the photo
@@inkpulp ok, yes, I was hoping you just meant artists who trace lol. Yeah. I agree with all your sentiments there!
