I took Klaus' Principles of Cartooning my sophomore year at SVA. I am eternally grateful to have had him as a teacher and mentor. His guidance set me up with an incredible foundation and passion for the medium. Such a great interview with him guys, absolutely loved it!!
This was a great listen. As a working pro of 30 years now, these are the kind of conversations I enjoy and keep me pencil pushing and ink slappin at the board. Hours are long in this biz. Thanks guys.
Legendary episode! Also, very validating to hear you all talk about the shift in students. I’ve taught college now for 10 years and there has been a slow shift/drift during that time, but the last two years have been night and day to ten years ago. The majority of students today are solidly in that Dunning Kruger (low skill/knowledge with high confidence) and some of the most emotionally fragile people I’ve met. The number of students crying during crits has increased a lot in my classes.
I agree with Eric considering the motivation. we all need the kick in the ass at some point so we don't get complacent. thank you guys for the awesome podcast. love watching you discuss the business I always wanted to be a part of.
Great conversation. Janson's inking is some of my favorite to study, especially his work with Miller and JRJR. Love hearing the guy talk about his craft and experience.
I'm glad TH-cam recommended this video to me. It was both entertaining and informative. You guys deserve 100x times the amount the subscribers you currently have.
I really hope to one day find something, like you guys have with art/comics, that I am passionate about and that I can make a living from. Congrats to Klaus for the extraordinary amount of years he's put into doing something he loves. Great episode with a great guest. Bring him back for more!!
You'll find that "something" by doing stuff and exploring various crafts and activities. Find what you're passionate about and learn everything there is to know about it and sacrifice, sleep, time, and entertainment to make it happen.
Yes, this is true, but this also means a different audience is here, not in super hero books, but webcomics . its bringing some good diversity in the mix, in terms of style and genre BUT, its doesnt work when used on super hero books.

After interviewing Klaus, I can't wait for the Frank Miller interview!
Klaus was my principles of cartooning teacher at SVA, his class humbled me as a cartoonist.

Legend!
He definitely is!
I noticed at MoCCA fest that the dominant style is VERY different; much more cutesy and playful, less action and grit
