    Thanks for the tour.
    I love barns. Growing up in Ohio there were barns everywhere. I've got a Weyerhaeuser 4-square plan book with plans of barns and outbuildings with elevation drawings and materials list. I bought it when I was 12. Printed in the late 40's.

    Hi Taylor thanks for sharing another awesome video, wow the barn looks great when you finish cleaning it The up stairs is amazing you can see how it was constructed, the woodwork is beautiful. Someone certainly put some thought into all the trap doors for hay and grain and it's still practical today. Taylor has Brent got a secret rock band with all those drums 🥁 😅. At my place I have to use my imagination because all that's left of the former farmers are old foundations, slabs, a really well made dug well, and of course, the rock walls that show where the old fields were, some of which were kept in use to the present.

    Where I currently live, I use to be surrounded by Tobacco barns. Most have been torn down because of rot and the market in general. My town still grows a small amount of tobacco for the outer wrapping of high end cigars but no more green buses picking up High School kids in the Summer for working the fields. Love old barns.

    I like older barns, nice to see them used I have mixed feelings when they tear them down to recycle the wood, nice it is being used but the barn will never be again. It was fun and especially hearing from you guys about the barn and things you guys did there. The old brick house I lived in as a kid was knocked down last year, just to much for anyone to heat in winter so they took it down. We had a lot of round barns in the area I lived as a kid and Brent can probably tell you about the poor old farmer that died looking for a corner. Thank you for sharing this video I appreciate your time to do all of this. Hope you all stay safe and healthy. So glad the storm did not hit you guys hard.

    Can you maybe get Brent to explain and show how they anchored the corner wheels for the barn cleaner in the top with the wood? I always thought the forces were so great they had to be in concrete. I got a row of pens in my barn that we don't use because a fork is the only way to clean them and there is no way to change things to get a machine in. I am wondering now if I could pick up a barn cleaner head at a sale for next to nothing and setup a old berg chain and put those to use. Thanks

    I think all Farmers love to look at old barns. I’m surprised it had three levels and they had cattle on the middle level. In Ohio we would of milked down below and have machinery on the second level then hay in the mows. I milked in a round barn with the silo in the middle to hold the roof up. The cows faced the silo it was really nice to feed. How many miles is it between the barns.

    • @tayfarms
      @tayfarms  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I suppose you’re right about that 😄. Isn’t it amazing how regions did things differently. Here in Maine winters get so cold that the best way to keep the barn warm was by putting cows in the middle of the barn and typically heifers or dry cows on the bottom. Their heat would rise and keep the barn nice and toasty especially with a hay loft full of hay! That round barn facing a silo sounds like a fantastic feeding arrangement! It’s about 1/2 mile between them I’d say.. thanks so much for sharing!

    that hay mound is slick they built a wooden chute to safely throw bales down i always stacked bales made a somewhat of a chute all the up in winter days are short always dark kind of sketchy throwing bales down did twist my ankle once doing that do you know how hard it is climbing a hay mound or 60ft tower silo or grain bins even just a tractor cab with 1 leg then found the time/money built a staircase

    Hey Taylor. I've probably missed your explanation. Refresh my memory. Why are you cleaning and bedding this barn? Are you planning on adding livestock?

    This vid would have been epic had Brent sat down and performed a drum solo.

    Hi Taylor, I know very little about cows. What cows are the ones that look like they have panda markings? Black and White. Those are the ones I mostly see in movies and tv and on the Chick-fil-A ads. You are are an inspirational person. You work so hard! Thanks for the awesome video! I hope you have a Merry Christmas.

      Hi, great question! Those would be Holsteins. They are probably the most popular dairy cow these days because they can produce large amounts of milk. You are too kind! I’m just glad you all enjoy joining me!! You have a very Merry Christmas as well 🎄🎄

    I really liked this video about the old barn Tay? Any idea what year it was built? Thank you Tay!

    Interesting barn. Never seen a barn were livestock were put on a second floor. Did they put hay in with a carrier running on a track at the top of the barn or was there a way to put hay in from an elevated ground level. You're both working hard.

    Yes Taylor the ingenuity of what farmers did to make things happen if so fun to explore and look at the concept of what they came up with, and old barns are just the best, my grandfather's Barn had to Walnut logs for beams and only two sides was the bark peeled off

    Is that old barn on a hillside? As you walked in from the grass outside and then looked down to a lower level...🤔
