    Wow, you are lucky to work with someone like Brent. First, he is a good teacher and is willing to teach you so many things. So many people would just do it themselves because it is faster and easier than helping someone through the process. He is a master with the skid steer, I don't want to think about how many hours it took to get that good. You are an incredible person, being both independent and willing to learn at every opportunity. You will go far in this world.

    😅get the puddle started before you start oscillating that is a good feeder weld , but you will need a ton of practice, they sale welding leathers that cover your whole body and good welding helmets, so there are a ton of things to get for welding, your eyes are the most important flash on your eyes will burn the edge’s of your eyes and 40 years from now you😢will need help to see things , welder flash and welder electric bead is 20 times brighter than the sun so please thank you BigAl California

    We always put bedding hay in our gutters, because if you didn't they wouldn't cross it! So, if you put them in without doing it, they would not go across, so we had to chase them back out and do it! farm welding don't have to be pretty, just practical! Brent cracked me up! Nothing wrong with using stuff you got! Wright Brothers didn't get their plane off the ground the first time either!

  • @TheZepp01
    @TheZepp01 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi Taylor, I thought the rain had gone for a while but to get nearly 4" is ridiculous. All you need now is a few sunny days to finish of baling hay. A great video of your morning chores after the girls have been milked and sent to the free stall barn. They did carry on when they learnt they were not going onto the pasture, but some green bale of hay sorted them out. The old muck scrapper is still doing a good job in the palour and I hope I haven't jinx you. It looks like you are using finer wood sawdust for bedding now, is that more comfortable than the wood chips to lay on? Welding is a tough job to learn and they say "practice make perfect". Its one of the jobs that will help you out on the farm or on your truck in the future. Keep up with the interesting videos. Chris from Australia 🇦🇺.

    We had an oiling system for our barn cleaner chain. We used old motor oil and once a week it would slowly drip on the chain. It was a 5 gal bucket with a hose spigot to control the drip.
    Welding is an art!! It takes finesse and some know how to get heat/rod/metallurgy to sync.
    Love the videos!!

    A few things to get if your going to weld. Pair of welding gloves, a welding jacket or at least welding sleeves to cover your arms, and a pair of safety glasses. The UV from welding will burn your skin and in the short term the weld splatter will also burn your skin. Stick welding with E6011 works well. Good luck with learning that skill.

    .... great to be learning welding, great skill to have .... first off am not a welder, but have seen many a weld done ... may I suggest going to google school to understand what is going on by searching "how to stick weld" ... as with a lot of processes an important part is the prep like for instance when painting a wall the better the prep the better the end result .... likewise with a weld, the better the prep, higher the possibility of getting a strong bond ...... thx for the share .. as always .. never stop dreaming, just dream bigger .. have fun be safe, save our oceans .....

    I’m interested as a retired life long dairy farmer what your production is on a cow average. I realize that profit Is based on input costs. But I’m curious where your protein comes from for the ration.

    • @tayfarms
      @tayfarms  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a great question, so in the summer our protein mostly comes from grazing on white clover. In the fall we green feed. The winter and spring months are what we are experiencing difficulties with. So we are trying to implement hydroponic which we have had amazing luck with. It’s anywhere from 20-26% protein. Thanks so much for commenting!

    Don't do too much welding without long sleeves, that will burn you worse than the sun in short order.
    Did Brent ever have gutter grates in that barn? From the appearance of that barn it looks like it had the best of everything when it was built, but I was suprised to see it didn't have grates?
    As my neighbors would say about Mr. Brent, don't laugh about him welding his feeder back together...............He is the guy who doesn't just go to the Bahama's, he could go to the Bahama's and buy the resort.

    • @tayfarms
      @tayfarms  ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s some good advice! Yes the barn did originally have gutters grates but they just didn’t work well I guess Brent said they were constantly causing problems, not really sure why. A penny saved is a penny earned right! 😊

    • @tpfromcentralpa1692
      @tpfromcentralpa1692 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tayfarms Couldn't have them here because we had to haul manure every day(No pit) and with grates you had to clean twice instead of once or the manure was up in the grates because the gutter wasn't deep enough. And they didn't like straw bedding..........I would say you didn't have the first issue, that manure setup in that barn is really nice, atleast tons better than what I was used to.

    I can admit this now but when I was young and stupid in my early twenties I arc welded without a mask and sunburned the retina's in my eyes. That night the moon looked pink and I felt like there was sand in my eyes. It was by far the stupidest thing I've ever done (there were others). Luckily there was no long lasting damage.

    Got a kick out of the "pimple on the a--" philosophy lesson! So true on a small family farm.

    Thanks to both of you for a fun and educational video. This was one of my favorites. Checking the list off of Brent's skills that you're learning too. Y'all stay safe.... Your buddy from Carolina (n).
