- Sandie Shaw, MBE (born Sandra Ann Goodrich; 26 February 1947) is an English singer. One of the most successful British female singers of the 1960s, she had three UK number one singles with "(There's) Always Something There to Remind Me" (1964), "Long Live Love" (1965) and "Puppet on a String" (1967). With "Puppet on a String", she became the first British entry to win the Eurovision Song Contest. She returned to the UK top 40, for the first time in 15 years, with her 1984 cover of the Smiths song "Hand in Glove". Shaw announced her retirement from the music industry in 2013.
I was not expecting Jade Thirlwall to bring the UK’s first ever Eurovision winner to the front in 2024 ❤
Even in mid seventies still rocking
Jade sampling Puppet On A String is such a MASTERMIND MOVE #AngelOfMyDreams
which part did she sample? i cant figure it out
@@milliemorley6299 well.. the sample is quite literal?? the part of "i wonder if one day that you'll say that you care, if you say you love me madly" it's literally copypasted as the intro of jade's song. then multiple vocals are sampled throughout the song
@@sergiocarrilloruiz5793 it was just a question damn I’ve only heard it on the radio but listened to full version and I can hear it now😭 be nice damn
@@sergiocarrilloruiz5793later on when she’s wearing the red wig after getting hit by the chair, they sampled the song again, slowed down, and played in the background like it’s just the music, but it’s there.
@@milliemorley6299 I think it's more that the melody is quoted, it's pretty subtle
she was very beautiful and full of energy. Her voice was awesome. This song really cheers me up when I am feeling low
She hated it & refused to sing it anymore.
holy moly i saw that record in 67 where are the years gone....😥😥🤔🤔👍👍
wow great
A Grand year, Celtic European champions .
My question too .... I think that 'whooshing' sound I heard a moment ago was those precious years going ....
This song demands to be heard over and over!
You would be pleased to know that her "Sandie Shaw" & The "Pretty things" came to New Zealand in 1965 & & I had the pleasure of being on stage with her. The "Pretty Things" were drunk & throwing lit matches at the curtains, it did not go down well with the police or fire department I was in a group called "Judge Wayne & the Convicts" yep I'm still here
Oh it is, I can assure you.
There's such enthusiasm and joy in her voice - it's a song that makes me happy.
Who else is here in 2024 because of Jade Thirlwall 👋🏻
👋
Meeeee
Who?
No, I came here after listening to 'Alfie' by Lily Allen
Me... can't wait for Angel Of My Dreams
What a catchy song from 1967,one of the best Eurovision winners ever and one of the UKs few winners.
Sandie Shaw was one of my favourite female singers from the 60s.
Agree with all of that except one of the UK's few winners? Don't be too hard on our form - the UK has won it five times - only Ireland and Sweden have won it more. We are the perennial runners-up, though - 16 times! We were robbed with Cliff Richards' Congratulations and Sonia's Better The Devil You Know. And Gina G only came eight!
Música linda

And is still
Stunningly beautiful and sexy lady.
Here for Jade 😭
J'avais 17 ans à l'époque 😅..mes années tendre.
Que du bonheur a ce moment là..n'est ce pas..!!!!❤
Da❤❤❤😊

1967, I remember, I was standing on this world already.....and I had one of her LP, this song was in it ..and she was barefoot on the cover, wearing a miniskirt, ofcourse, what else if not ...?? 😄.....
Sandy was every young guy's heartthrob back in England in those days. Now we're all either gone or certainly near end-of-life. Some wonderful memories from a much happier and care-free time, when a Man was a Man, a Woman a Woman (pretty hard to miss that with Sandy, such a beautiful girl).... So many incredible songs from that era!! Bend Me Shape Me / Young Girl / Whiter Shade of Pale / Everything Beatles & Monkees etc etc etc....
Well said couldn’t agree more
I agree, women today want to dress like men in trousers or tight leggings, NOT femine
Très juste ! j'aimais bien "whiter shade of pale" Procol harum
plenty of cross dressing and gender bending in the 60s you just weren’t at the cool parties grandpa.
loved Sandy Shaw in 1967, when I was an eight y.o. east german boy 🙂
In a beautiful park as a child I listened to this song.. at the tearoom was a glass box with a stringed puppet inside dancing to it. Today it's so relevant a memory, and such pertinence to my life that i could never have forseen.
I remember this great song so well from 1967...l was 12 years of age
😂😂😂😂 sehr gut… nach der Muttermilch… oh, ja, Fäden zerschneiden, gute Idee 👍🏼 Ich bin BJ 1955….🤫

Loved her madly and I am 77 now.
well, she is 77 now too. Maybe she loves you madly too.
Once upon a time, artists produced quality songs both lyrically and musically. It was a delight to the ears of any music lover. You could listen to it endlessly. " Puppet On A String..." released in 1967 and still popular in 2023...! The sixties, seventies, eighties... greatest times in music...! And let's be honest, what a beautiful singer or " Sandra Ann GOODRICH " better known as " Sandie SHAW " at her best...! Also a reminder of the beautiful British youth of the sixties. Thank you for this cheerful song and may you be well sweetie. Sandie SHAW... pure youth sentiment...! Greetings from Belgium (Europe) and Florida (USA).
Yes, you nailed it. "A delight to the ears". She certainly is.
One of United Kingdom’s best entries, great song and singer, she was brilliant.
She hated the song unfortunately
song is bad
@@robowizard6132 it was good for the time and she won for uk .

A very good looking lady, with a great voice.
A wonderful song. Sandie was a dynamic performer and one of my favorite singers in the sixties. I am a fan for life. I also like her hits Long Live Love, Always Something There to Remind Me, and Monsieur Dupont.
I'm in the US and never even heard of her.
not forgetting - Girl don,t come -
@@Cindybin46She was a star in the UK and the first British singer to win the Eurovision song contest. She preferred to sing barefoot.
@@MICHAELNORTH-n8lYes, that's another great song: "You have a date for half past eight tonight...".Thanks for jogging my memory. Cheers.

I'm 17, my parents had this song on a CD whenever we'd go on long drives somewhere when i was little. Lovely song 10/10
I was born in 1967 and I honestly remember this as the first thing I remember.
born in 62 here with 4 older sisters with a pile of singles to play whenever they were out.. Great song
Same born in 67 my family would always play old songs! When women looked and acted like women. Great voices of the 60s as it was really their voices.

What a great song.
It's great to hear the song.
Especially for the Eurovision song contest
This is the first pop song I remember as a child. Loved it
A Song, a Favorite since Childhood ❤
Fabulous, georgeous, wonderful, beautiful ❤❤❤
A wonderful song! I love it! Bravo!
You outstanding you ar 🎉🎉❤❤
It might have won the Eurovision contest but Sandie hated this song. A fabulous lady and a wonderful singer.
I don't think she thought much of 'Monsieur Dupont' either!
@@stevenbaker7696 That wouldn't surprise me.
From what I have read,Sandie did not like the song at all describing it as "that idiot song with the cockoo- clock melody"-- for all that it became her biggest hit,if not her best Auckland New Zealand 2021
I was recently listening to one of Edgar Wright's audio commentaries on "Last Night in Soho" and he mentioned that was part of the reason he chose "Puppet on a String" for the cabaret scene.
What else did she sing then ??
Such an amazing voice and a great talent. Wish we had singers with these qualities today.
By god this takes me back to childhood ❤❤❤❤
Before Jade, Lily Allen also sampled this gem in her 2009 (?) single "Alfie"
Omg you're RIGHT!
Think it was around 2007, though
Don't think it was directly sampled but it's blatantly referenced for sure.
This was just one of the songs that we loved.. Happy days for us in England, at that time...

I know it's crazy but she looks exactly like my year six teacher back in the day, her perfume used to make my head spin. A darling, kind young woman I have never forgotten.
There is something so blissfully charming about the way she nods at the camera at the end 😊
Souvenir of my childhood : After Sandie Shaw's winning at the eurosong contest, in all the seaside resorts during summer holidays, local bands were playing the tune, marching up and down the walks.

Great old classic song from the 1960s, it‘s such a happy sound that lifts your spirits, they don‘t make them like this anymore, love the guy in the dark jacket he dances like a puppet on a string! 😉😊
Very few could make a goofy song like that even bearable, but Sandie did it.
Unique singing voice and great style
When women were women.
She oozes class. She could also sing in multiple languages.

Vintage music is excellent and I love it ❤😊
Vintage!? LOL!
Her voice is so strong and sweet and beautiful. Song's catchy - a real banger!
Deserved to win the Eurovision. What a pity there aren´t many more songs like this there any more.
Agree. But Eurovision is long been all about a visual spectacle, and a grossly overcooked one at that, with a low score for actual singing quality. ABBA is the exception, but even they were quite an assault on the eyes strutting around (and singing too, shock, horror!.
The original and best singer of this evergreen singalong that has endured for close to 60 years. You're never too old (or too young!) to clap along, step up the beat and get into the groove with one of the 60's best performers. 💯

I remember this song as she gave Tom Jones his first number one hit song called It's Not Unusal and she is the only singer who came on the stage in her bare feet as it won The Eurovision song contest as it was Sandie Shaw with Puppet on a string as I am dedicating this song to my old school friends who are both sisters as I hope to see them both again very soon to Chris and Hester from Billyxxxxx
I loved the way they used this song in Last Tango in Soho! Which is why I sought out this video!
