      Quick tip - use "Microsoft To Do" on your phone. Create a list called "Film". Each roll then can be a "Task" with all your notes. Label the roll with a 4 digit number and include that number in the task title, and in every scanned file name. Tah-Dah! You now have digital tracking for your film. I mark the task completed once my scans or done. When I file them, I include the 4 digit number which makes it super easy if I want to track back the scan -> negative.

    It's cute how Caleb and Jason release their videos at exactly the same time. Maybe they have an ironic saying they yell together right before publishing their videos? Like, "Flash buddies, ahoy! Upload & publish!"

    The idea of organising 25 years of negatives and 17 years of digital photos causes a level of fear that forces me to ignore the problem for another decade or two.

    This was probably the best ever video I will ever see in my life. After seeing this though, I thought I was organised with my negatives, how wrong was I. With regards to scanning options, I prefer the second, because the waiting gives me time to reflect on the poor choices I have made in my life.

    I actually have a somewhat similar organizing scheme but I have another step where I have full metadata for any photo I take. I use and app called EXIF Notes (I think it's Android only) and a tool on PC called EXIF Tools that allows me to enter all of my shooting data on my phone whenever I take a photo and then when I finish the roll export it to my computer and use EXIF Tools to update all of my photos after I scan them to have the information. It's really useful especially when I have a photo not turn out I can see what my settings were and figure out the mistake I made. Love your channel by the way! You, Jason, and Karin Majoka are my favorite film TH-cam channels!

    About needing scissors, for cutting the long film into strips I personally prefer a scalpel or sharp hobby knife. That way I feel like I can easier see where I am cutting and make small ajustments as I cut to make sure I stay away from the actual frame.

    I organize in folders as well. But it goes under camera then location then I name the last folder as date scanned, number from developer, film type shot and wether or not it's been organized yet. If it was organized for the pictures into other folders I'll tack organized onto the end of the name.
    So my last folder would be named as follows for example.:
    10-4-22 0601 Fuji Superia X-Tra 400 Organized
    Gives me a rough example of when I shot it as I develop it right away and allows me to look up the developer number under my negatives easier than just date. Probably not the best solution as I'm always thinking of how to do it better. But it works for me.

  • @Dahrenhorst
    @Dahrenhorst ปีที่แล้ว

    Wenn you name your files according to date, you should change the format from mm-dd-yyyy to yyyy-mm-dd. With that, when you let the computer sort your files by their name, they are automatically also sorted chronically.

      @@BadFlashes I agree, better to have negs organised than in a shoe box that your wife might mistake for junk and throw out in the bin. Try scanning negs that spent some time in a bin, no fun. As if Lomography went and held your negs ransom but you can't afford the ransom, so stuck with funky negs. Yeah, definitely worth organising them. Perfect for when the curators come to buy out your photography archive because you've just landed top billing in the Metropolitan Museum. Got to be ready for that day!

    i import my scans directly through the lightroom import and have it setup default. This way it gets ordered by import date automatically. But i'm not quite happy with that. How did you setup your lightroom catalogue to recognize the existing file system? Also do you do DNG conversion on it?

    • @BadFlashes
      @BadFlashes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m not sure I completely understand what you’re trying to say. Are you wanting them to be organized by date and when you took them? And because they are raw files from the camera I don’t have to make DNG’s from them
