Buffy the Vampire Slayer continued in comic book form with seasons 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12 from Dark Horse Comics. Joss Whedon oversaw the comics and wrote the first story arc for season 8. These comics are considered canon, unlike Dark Horse's previous Buffy series with the exception of Buffy the Origin.

Oh my, you are really spoiling us with all that Buffy content in a roll. Welcome to the final season, hope you enjoy it. That last scene gives me chills everytime
Joss directed himself Willow and Giles scenes at Tony's home in Somerset, UK as second unit. He and Aly flew to England and shot it including Tony's kitchen. Reason why Joss didn't direct the episode was, probably, because he had 3 shows (he ran 1 and oversaw the other 2, obviously he co ran Firefly).
Always nice to see the Master again, you can tell Mark loved the role, every time. And poor William, remembering everything Spike has done, just like Liam did. Something to consider: what do the villains and Buffy all have in common?
You may notice Buffy in the very final scene as the villain is Buffy when so told off the Watcher's Council at the Magic Box. "It's about power, I have it, they want it."
Saddened to hear that Donald Sutherland who portrayed Merrick, Buffy's first watcher in the 1992 Buffy the Vampire Slayer feature film passed away this morning at the age of 88.
As a lot of people know, Buffy was _heavily_ based on the X-Men. Just wanted to point out that when Willow is talking with Giles at the start of the episode and they discuss the teacher that’s instructing Willow, it’s an obvious reference in name and role of “[Agatha] Harkness” who was a witch that played a key role in the stories of Wanda Maximoff, the “Scarlet Witch.” While seasons 3 to 6, the show runners stated Willow was their Jean Grey, complete with their version of the Dark Phoenix saga (even stated in the show itself), season 7 pushes her into the Scarlet Witch role, and has her focus on the reality-warping aspect of her power, now that she’s become so powerful.
Fun fact about this one. They brought in Sarah Michelle Gellar 's stunt double to do the "bag-fu" (the fight where buffy uses her bag as a weapon) and the intention was to just have Sarah do the close-ups. But SMG was shockingly great at it and the team actually thought the footage of her looked better than her stunt double's, so virtually all the shots of that are actually her.
Sarah holds a brown belt in martial arts and uses kickboxing as a fitness regimen. She actually knows a thing or two about kicking ass. I think they had a stunt double for her on set for the shots of Buffy getting thrown around.
An excellent start to a brilliant final season. And Spike's line "I dropped my board in the water, and the chalk all ran. Sure to be caned" gets me every time.😢
So glad you're starting this. As for me, I had watched the first 6 seasons of Buffy on reruns from 2004-2006 Years later, I re-watched the seasons 1-6 with DVDs I borrowed from the library and also borrowed from a friend. Then, later, I got the DVDs from the library for season 7. I really honestly wanted to rush through the DVDs to see the end, whatever that might be.

An at the end we got a treat with all the villains of Previous seasons. I will be sad when this final season reactions are done. But i will enjoy the ride, i still love the Buffyverse.
Safe bet the cast, especially the women on the show were probably getting tired of Whedon's offscreen shenanigans by that time and Sarah Michelle Gellar was ready to move on.
It's just weird how teen shows after high school, always give one season of college life and then go straight into adulthood. Buffy is a mom with a job as a guidance counselor, but not really a guidance counselor, but really is a guidance counselor. Xander is somehow a construction foreman, wearing a suit to work. He's 21 years old, he'd be the low man on the crew and not the boss. Willow is still in school, but we rarely get to see her college life. Instead of owning a nightclub, like almost every teen show in the 90's to 2000's did, they ran a magic store.
Here you are. The final stretch. Just to clarify without spoilers. They knew it was the final season going in & it'll all make sense eventually. Enjoy the ride. All I'll say is that spike wasn't alone in the basement and he wasn't imagining things. You're going to LOVE season 7! It's proper Buffy the Vampire Slayer! You've no idea what you're in for!
My feelings about this premiere is similar to how I feel about this final season. As a premiere its following the premiere format and revisiting the the elements from the beginning: high school on a hell mouth, combat training for beginners, the trio in high school making friends, a mysterious vampire, a supernatural problem to solve (a.k.a. vicim turned antagonists Buffy supposedly neglected to save). It all makes sense from a writer's perspective what they do this episode and this season and how they're able to tie everything up and completely book end the show. However, that being said it's just not a favorite of mine - this episode or this season. But hey, still fun seeing what's think especially their first watch through ;)
Dawn has her own group of friends that she will now go on adventures with.....or we'll never hear from them again. Alright Buffy is following through with her training of Dawn. Finally Dawn is going to get in on some action....Nope, this will be all the training for Dawn that we will see.
Excellent reaction to the first episode of the last season. Season 7 is sometimes maligned, many have negative comments, and has mixed reviews. I don’t believe that the Season has issues but is not revered because it’s the last. Everyone that has watched the previous 122 episodes wanted another 122. It’s hard to separate the melancholy from your independent thoughts but try. Season 7 is an excellent final year. When it aired , we knew it was ending after the final scene. Most of us dislike many of the episodes because we didn’t want Buffy to stop. There were 9 of us that stayed together for all 7 seasons. All of us watched but we were getting sad. But here is what happened. Each of us have rewatched the year and with the luxury of time agree it's a solid year . I suggest to just sit back , don't think of it has the last, and be entertained by an excellent final chapter.
I love Season 7's return to form. It feels brighter and more bouncy, like the early seasons, while maintaining enough of Season 6's tone without that depressing ache.
I'm new to your channel but I have gone back and binge watched up to this point. This opening episode is just a catch up episode with our main characters.....but it leaves you asking a lot of questions.....and they will be answered throughout the season....and be ready for arguably the best series finale you will ever see
Here's hoping Principal Wood doesn't get eaten! I like the theory that Spike was drawn to the Hellmouth. We saw back in season 4 that the Hellmouth was still under the high school, those 3 demons tried to open it by sacrificing themselves, in the same enpisode where Spike found out he could hurt demons...
Isn’t it fascinating that spike and Angel both go through the hide from everyone crazy with guilt phase but then spike seems to keep who he is for the most part Angel is a completely different person with a soul than without always been interesting to me.
Vampires are human/demon hybrids, and most retain some humanity within them. The Judge in season two was able to detect overwhelming humanity in Spike and Drusilla (saying they “stink” of it) and he was able to burn the scholar vampire because the scholar also had humanity in him. Angel was _unique_ in that he had absolutely _no_ humanity in him at all. And was immune to the Judge’s touch. Spike before and after being sired retains much of the same personality because his human humanity was echoed in his vampire self. Angel was seemingly unique in that there’s not a trace of humanity in him at all. I guess you could argue that Angelus is the vampire equivalent of a genuine psychopath. And if you consider how predatory and sadistic vampire by nature are, truly makes you appreciate why Angelus was as well-known and infamous as he was. Even The Master called him “the most vicious creature” he’d ever met.
@@arc7375 damn well said man that actually answers alot of my questions lol ya me and my sister have always thought of it like this with a soul angel is a “better” hero type than spike by that I mean that angel is always about helping people and helping the helpless as to where spike doesn’t really care about that as much and im not saying that as a bad thing its just a difference between the two. Now the flip side to that when both are evil angelus is super evil and sadistic as to where spike will kill people sure but he does it cause he has to as to where angelus savors and thrives with psychologically fucking with people so I’m basically saying that Angel is one extreme to the other he’s either REALLY good or REALLY bad as to where spike has a lot better balance between the two lol.
Liam was not a great guy to begin with. He was selfish, a drunk, thief, womanizer gave nothing to society. Blamed everything on his dad. Becoming a vampire enhanced his vices minus remorse. Which spawned Angelus. The centuries of cruelty finally weighed on him when he was cursed with his soul back. Liam finally felt guilt, shame, remorse and then Angel was born. Spike was the opposite a kind, sensitive, creative, romantic. Thanks to Cecily aka Halfrek aka Halley's cruelty, he turns to Dru. Even as a vampire he still had love for his mother and felt guilt for turning her. Spike, unlike Angelus can feel love, guilt, mercy.
Just remember, the last episode of your first watch-through is followed by the first episode of your second watch-through. The story doesn't really end.
Ha, ha ha ha ha.... all the villains plus Buffy. I have no answers and no spoilers. Love your reactions and all your work. Hope your channel grows and grows.
Season 7 is really good, but season 6 remains my favorite. I think you'll appreciate it more with time after the initial shock of its unrelenting darkness kind of settles in.
I was worried about Spike after seeing this episode. Because he isn't just like Angel was, overwhelmed by having his soul back. He also seems like it's driven him a bit mad. That intrigued me, but also made me worry where they'd go with it. And of course seeing all the evil Big Bads from past seasons made me worry because it felt like whatever's coming is a combination of them all, which could be really really bad. (But also filled with potential for a good season) So intrigued to see what you think of the upcoming episodes! :) P.S. Yay for seeing Amenadiel, right? 😄 This is how I first knew that actor (DB Woodside), from the Buffy series. So when he showed up in the Lucifer pilot, I was like, "Hey! It's Principal Wood!" Lol. It took me a little while to stop seeing him that way, but eventually he became Amenadiel for me. ❤😇
I don’t think Spike was as affected or tormented by his soul. SPOILERS: I think it was just the constant manipulation and mental torture by The First. As Spike says in Angel, he understood the severity of his actions as a vampire now with his soul, but it wasn’t him. And he can’t change it. So he just let it go.
@arc7375 I know that. Excellent points, though. 😄 I just didn't want to spoil anything, so I talked about my initial assumption after seeing this episode back in the day, before we saw more in upcoming episodes about how the First was so manipulative. Of course we saw a tiny bit of that right at the end of this episode with all the shifting Big Bads, but at the time I first saw this episode I didn't know what was going on yet. So back then I assumed getting his soul back made him a bit bonkers.
Yes!! We are finally at season 7!!! 🙌 i am excited. ❤❤❤ OMG!!! The cycle of baddies literally said.... "We're going back to the begining". Since we got to see all the baddies from last to first.... i thinking its "The first".... The BIG baddie.. Remember what Angel went through in the first season? Again theres that word first... Anyway Angel was seeing stuff that wasn’t there when he got his soul back. So maybe because spike got his soul back he is also going through it.. but.....So if Spike got his soul back like Angel, then maybe that means that this time, he will be Buffy's love intrest. These are just theories of course.
Hi Dakara. Ah, yes. The beginning of the end. I have been enjoying seeing your journey with this universe and it just takes me back to how I reacted. Lots of nostalgia to go around for this opening episode. I appreciate that they took everyone back down memory lane with all the villains of the show. ...Especially, how much Buffy has matured into her slayer career. The comparison is there by showing her teenaged angst of having to do the job ( back in the pilot episode), til now where she has fully settled into her role. Although season 7 isn't one of my favorites, you can't help but indulge yourself into every single frame by frame of the show, because you just want to soak all of the last season in, knowing that this is it..sadly. Well, there's the comics seasons but...meh. Those villain pop ups were reminding us all of the trials and tribulations that she's overcome and how she still turned out into an amazing hero. I mean she's so awesome that not even her white suit got a smudge of dirt on it from that filthy basement she was rolling around on. Lol The only thing that had me scratching my head is, who put the talisman in the bathroom? Can't wait to finish the rest of this journey with you. Blessings to you and yours, Dear heart.
It'll be interesting to see this one again. Being honest, I really didn't enjoy it as much as the others. It went darker and seemed to lose the humour. There is also to problem that this was the first one I had to watch on Sky, where it was badly edited to make it last an hour (they seemed to ignore the intended places for adverts, where the screen goes black for a second, and just cut it wherever they wanted).
Seeing how you watched Supernatural, this season of Buffy you'll be seeing Felicia Day aka Charlie in a few episodes, and how can you not love that actress she's terrific.
Dakara, I don't know if you noticed who that other girl was, the one that Dawn befriended in the bathroom. That's a young Alexandra Breckenridge aka Jesse from Season 6 of The Walking Dead. And yeah, back to the beginning. Back to basics. Talking about the first time slaying vamps, first time starting high school, the first evil villain Buffy faced aka The Master. I remember how super giddy and excited I was seeing all the villains from each season 😍. That's how we're gonna start the final season?? Strap me in! On a side note, I am one of the few that would've liked Buffy and Xander together as a couple. He's been with her and fighting at her side the day they met. So it was cute seeing them be like a couple when he walked in wearing a suit ready for work and ready to take them to drop Dawn off at school like as if she was their child lol. I'm just saying they looked like a cute little family. And this was a nice glimpse of what Buffy's life could look like if she had a regular 9-5 job and slayed at night now that she's a school counselor. Pretty cool ❤.
It always bothered me that Angelus wasn’t featured to represent the Big Bad of season two. But Drusilla is the perfect representation, with the omission of David Boreanez. I’m certain it was to differentiate Buffy as a series from Angel as a series, but my mild OCD felt it jarring to see the chorus line of Big Bads omit Angelus, who was indisputably the Big Bad of his season.
Let me just say that Buffy is not the best or hottest mom, my vote goes to you. Great first episode, Sunnydale High is back in spades, the series is back on track, sort of. Spike got his soul back, but it seems to have messed up his head. Be ready for a great final season.

I wonder how many episodes in before she catch it, ofc no one Ive seen have ever caught it in episode 1 lol
So, who placed the Talisman? I'm guessing it was Principal Wood.
I think this is the best season... ❤
"That vampire at the beginning. . .that was just embarrassing. After that big Speech Buffy gave and he gets stuck.
(But also filled with potential for a good season)
So intrigued to see what you think of the upcoming episodes! :)
SPOILERS:
I think it was just the constant manipulation and mental torture by The First.
OMG!!!
Lol
The only thing that had me scratching my head is, who put the talisman in the bathroom?
Can't wait to finish the rest of this journey with you. Blessings to you and yours, Dear heart.
Oh, by the way, I love you DakaraJ Just not your scamming fake person that isn't you person, but Dakara, you're the bomb diggity!
Positive Buffy in this episode is so great in contrast with season 6. She's like her old self.
Wait until episode 7. It is one the best episodes.
🙂
Seeing how you watched Supernatural, this season of Buffy you'll be seeing Felicia Day aka Charlie in a few episodes, and how can you not love that actress she's terrific.
She is also in Dollhouse along with Eliza dushku and Amy Acker :)
Oooh and ..
..Angel Ezekiel
Has Dakara seen Firefly?
Cause there's a few cross overs there too.
It's the hell mouth that's why.
When I rewatch Buffy, this is where I stop. Not because season 7 isn't great - season 7 is great - but it makes me sad that it's the last one.
Let me just say that Buffy is not the best or hottest mom, my vote goes to you. Great first episode, Sunnydale High is back in spades, the series is back on track, sort of. Spike got his soul back, but it seems to have messed up his head. Be ready for a great final season.
Whatever the new Big Bad is, it can shift shape.
Wait until Caleb shows up and what he does to Xander. That's all I'm saying at this time.
Mystique is the villain of Buffy S7 confirmed.
Not a shape shifter, can be seen as dead people.
@@Nicolas.VincentWe all know, but we’re refraining from posting spoilers.
Also: the entity _is_ a shape shifter. It’s one of its abilities.
@@arc7375 it's incorporial. It has no shape.
Sad that such a good show went out with a real bummer of a season. Jas some good ideas, but the execution was awful imo.
