      Im a mom who is doing the same! I’m married and I recognize that it’s easier on me than a single parent, but I am way more athletically inclined than my husband and played softball. So much is the same , but I need these videos to help fine tune my teaching techniques and if I didn’t do it, he wouldn’t have anyone to work with on it. I think so many assume dads are the only ones working with the players with baseball, but a lot of time it’s actually us moms!

    "poison' sheesh man. I assuming most youth league coaches are volunteers without a ton of experience. I know in my kid's league, atleast 3 of the coaches stepped up out of necessity. What they teach the kids may not be perfect, but we're all friggin happy theyre doin it so the kids can play and have fun. "Poison" is harsh man. how do you recommend having the hitters put all of this together into one full motion? I have hitters that are stuck in this step one, two, three, four routine. I can't seem to get them to understand that other than steps one and two being something they do separately, they should be loading and striding as part of the swing as a whole. They pre-load before the ball is pitched then stride then swing.

    • @jasoncarter9356
      @jasoncarter9356 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just a suggestion. Once they understand and can execute all 3 points teach them the domino effect. At the end of their load without pause (ideally) the stride begins and the swing begins as soon as the stride has has finished transferring the front foot forward. if you have access to a cage and L-screen start with a front toss round then progress to full arm batting practice. They can hold the load for a second if their timing is off or early but ultimately they have to figure out through repetition when to stride and swing once loaded. They should feel like the stride is the beginning of the swing. Roughly when the pitchers arm swings down (or separates from the glove hand) the load begins and the stride follows when the pitcher's arm swings up to its peak just before the ball is released and the swing follows. Depending on how hard the pitcher is throwing and your batters bat speed and reaction time will determine how much momentum (Controlled speed) to use during the load and stride. Again reps, reps, reps.

    Not sure where to start. Should I buy a bucket of tee balls? Whiffle balls? Should I slow pitch to him? Or only have him hitting off a tee? How high should the tee be set? Just let him have fun. You don't need to slow pitch it to him as the arc will confuse him over a straight in pitch. Tee is good too. Belt high in the middle of the plate but he should stand back, so he can stride into the ball.

    Knuckles “Door Knockers” lined up doesn’t work for broad shouldered players. It leaves the top hand palm off the bat, and tips the back elbow down and in. Creating an upper cut, where the back elbow never gets into a 90 deg behind the bat and through the ball!!!
    As a result, no barrel control & being stuck w/ using balanced bats only!
    This video unfortunately shows what not to do. Baseball swings & golf swings are different, this video merged the swing finish of both sports.

    Question. my son is only 5. How can you teach this to a 5 year old? You cannot, right?

    • @ProSpeedBaseball
      @ProSpeedBaseball  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Thanks for the question! To give you a vague answer: It depends. It will depend on the 5 year old. I've experience kids at that age being very attentive and ready to go.... and on the other hand, at the same age, they are still kids. That being said... one of the best things you can do with younger players is give them very simple directions. For example, hold the bat like this and hit line drives. Literally that's it... younger kids will do so much correct instinctively by adjusting to the goal, which would be line drives. Pop ups are no good by the way ;) The biggest mistake I see with younger players are parents/coaches being too critical of mechanics. Then the kids tend to lose their instinctive advantage. Now, at some point instruction and mechanics have a place.... but the early years can be hugely beneficial to younger players with just a nudge in the right direction.
      Hope this helps out! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball

    Poison? I think 7 is still young. Prior to that a lot of kids arent even sure they want to play the sport and the coaching relies on volunteer coaches. I would not expect a volunteer to have same passion as a "professional" trainer or coach.

    • @jamesg4460
      @jamesg4460 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      100% - you can respect coaches who are putting in the work >and< recognize that they could have introduced habits to a player that might be limiting. "Poison" might sound harsh, but all I heard was calling attention to having a growth mindset. Players are always going to have something to work on.

    Doesn't matter the swing, it's all about repetition. IMO " fundamentals" teaching causes so many problems. Kids just want to impress adults.
    Hit the ball a few hundred times a day and your brain will figure out the rest.
    All the greatest hitters have the funkiest swings and break at least three of these supposed"fundamentals ".
    Repetition is the real teacher, that isnqhy these drills help. It's just repetition.

    • @ProSpeedBaseball
      @ProSpeedBaseball  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Aaron, thanks for the comment. Repetition will get you a long ways in hitting, but as an advanced seasoned hitting instructor, it is blatantly obvious when bad mechanics get exposed by better pitching. I work with all kinds of college players and professionals that were great at the level before, but because of mechanical flaws, they have very difficult time adjusting to the next level.
      I also agree that teaching causes so many problems... if the teaching is incorrect and/or the information is incorrect. With so much information out there, it's hard to know what is right and wrong... which is why our proven swing mechanics at ALL levels is taught at PSB. So proper mechanics + repetition is the ultimate.... however, my last note, just repetition is massively better than teaching with improper mechanics.
      Thanks for the comment! ~Michael Pro Speed Baseball

    • @aaronreeder5753
      @aaronreeder5753 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ProSpeedBaseball I guess I agree with you. The problem is not teaching fundamentals but people teaching what they think to be correct and teaching incorrectly. In my experience this has caused more problems than good and stalled a player out due to overthinking, bad habits and a destroyed passion or enjoyment of hitting. My advice from being a student of countless " hitting coaches" is to make small changes if anything and first see if just extra repetition will solve the problem first. Rarely do people take a thousand cuts a day. Same goes for feilding, pitching, etc. There is no replacement for repetition.
      Thanks for the reply :)
