Nice! If you happen to do a part 2, I've got a few suggestions: 1. Primus - My Name is Mud (most of Les Claypool's bass lines are, like, god-tier difficult, but I think you could tackle that one. It's practically like an ObZen-era Meshuggah riff) 2. The Cure - Fascination Street (it's not metal, but JFC that bass riff alone goes as hard as most heavier modern bands) 3. Norma Jean - Sword In Mouth Fire Eyes (just listen to the first 45 seconds of that song and thank me later 😉) 4. Muse - Hysteria (for real...how does someone write a bass riff that goddamn good???) 5. Every Time I Die - Apocalypse Now and Then (an overlooked gem for sure) 6. Chevelle - The Clincher (the credit probably goes more to their producer on this one, but I can't think of many other bass riffs that are mixed equally to the guitar and still manage to stand out)
Daaaaamn when I saw the vid I hoped so much you'd know about Self-Destruct. Can't believe it's there. That riff is so simple yet soooo heavy. This band deserves way more audience
very nice! Small thing; normally when playing fingerstyle, you anchor the thumb on the pickup, but obviously just do whatever feels best, great work as always :)
Solid list, I definitely agree with Metallica, Tool, Periphery and Korn and some other songs I'd like to add are Ace of Spades from Motörhead, Iron Maiden's Wrathchild or Phantom of the Opera, Chop Suey! or BYOB by System of a Down, Primus' John the Fisherman or Too Many Puppies, Panic Attack by Dream Theater or even I Want You (She's So Heavy) by The Beatles
Faaacts. Vortex, Perennial, Pisces, Who Is Gonna Be The One, Eugene just fucking writes banger after banger, just like his bandmates. Him and Jared Smith from Archspire are the two players who first made me wanna play bass. Then songs like Spirit Crusher by Death and Yellow Stone by Gojira made it actually feel like a feasible goal lmao
Mastermind from Megadeth probably has one of my favorite basslines. Cliff burton may of inspired me to play bass but Ellefson is certainly the reason I still play.
As a fellow player loving the video, just some helpful advice: when slapping da bass, when slapping try and make contact with the neck with your thumb. So you'd be slapping over the last fret of the fretboard, you get that punchy, slapback tone easier. Hope that helps! :)
Tech Death ain't something you can just EXPECT someone to play 😂😂😂 Nobody got no right to force you to play it even if it's great! And side note, I think Ball Tongue would've been the BEST pick for Korn, the bass in that song is great.
great list but i feel like the mix isn’t very cutting, i think it would have been ideal if there was more treble in the track especially on dig and fwtbt
the 2 things i noticed were that schism felt off but i havent heard it in awhile, and absolombs guitar part was missing a part, but i know the focus is on the bass anyways
My favourite bass riffs as of late would not have been in this video ever as they're either darkwave or post punk. If you want to check to check it out the bassline in the song Shadows by Twin Tribes is a good one. Great band/duo from Texas
I know they don’t really fit the typical genres of the channel but I gotta shout out DFA1979 for being the first band that left me going “wait, that’s a BASS?!” Also Canadian so automatically better
Every time I hear a Dingwall it sounds slightly distorted but I don't know if your using a distortion effect and I could never get a good distortion tone on my basses mainly my six string bass
Hey now, if you want to get that true tech-death bassist sound, you've got to set your bass tone to emulate a fretless bass, and then de-quantize it a bit to emulate the fact that even the professionals in tech-death aren't hit every single note perfectly and reliably on time for some of the harder parts.
Get your Dingwall bass at Sweetwater:
sweetwater.sjv.io/DKrzMn
Dingwalls are badass, I dream on getting one, but too bad it’s $2K USD.
Awesome!😁
I love how you’ve mixed the bass so badly on for whom the bell tolls 😂 like a true guitarist…
I literally have a sound boost app, and yes.immediately after he's done the bass is loud ASF lmao
Like All it did was make the guitar sound deeper lmao
I'm so glad he put Absolomb in this video. Its such an underrated song and I usually don't see it mentioned that much.
Underrated by who? Not to be rude at all but It’s one of the most famous bass intros in metal😅.
Nice! If you happen to do a part 2, I've got a few suggestions:
1. Primus - My Name is Mud (most of Les Claypool's bass lines are, like, god-tier difficult, but I think you could tackle that one. It's practically like an ObZen-era Meshuggah riff)

6. Chevelle - The Clincher (the credit probably goes more to their producer on this one, but I can't think of many other bass riffs that are mixed equally to the guitar and still manage to stand out)
Chevelle's mixing is so good. That was the song that made me a fan of them. And shoutout to Fascination Street!
wall of dingwalls is so fire
The wall of ding
Bout $45,000,000 of fire
Real@@TheAverageGam3r
I want one
@@ellawills1994 me too but my hands are too small to play bass anyway so im just programming it
I’ve actually been wanting more bass content from you, so thank you. Also the Self-Destruct HITS every time I listen to that song.
This needs more Rex Brown. Hes underrated.
And more Deftones. RIP Chi

YES!! I suggested Hammer Smashed Face and I’m so happy it made it
Daaaaamn when I saw the vid I hoped so much you'd know about Self-Destruct. Can't believe it's there. That riff is so simple yet soooo heavy. This band deserves way more audience
Where's Deftones - Needles and Pins! That intro is so heavy! Love the For Whom!
Came for BR BR, stayed for DENG
You and I have much different definitions of "heavy," but I kinda love that. Made me look at a couple pieces in a new light 🤘
Got a nice mix of slap, fingers, and pick playing. I like it.
"Mudshovel" by Staind is my all time favorite bassline.
Great bassline indeed
Personally, I think Staind’s best bass line is 4 Walls
i love the shirt but also great riffs. really need to get a bass one of these days
I hate it
bro, i think i need a full blind cover with screams. i loved the tone you had going on that one.
Sorry i know you said no tech death BUT
Job For A Cowboy- Sun Eater album👀
And any Beyond Creation (FYI, you'll need a 6 string fretless bass 😳)
Oh wow did not expect a good slap from you, awesome!
very nice! Small thing; normally when playing fingerstyle, you anchor the thumb on the pickup, but obviously just do whatever feels best, great work as always :)
I think you could have included some Meshuggah or Lamb of God riffs. There’s also P.O.D. That being said, your list is top tier man.
Cant really hear bass over the guitars.
Finally the bass is getting some love
Solid list, I definitely agree with Metallica, Tool, Periphery and Korn and some other songs I'd like to add are Ace of Spades from Motörhead, Iron Maiden's Wrathchild or Phantom of the Opera, Chop Suey! or BYOB by System of a Down, Primus' John the Fisherman or Too Many Puppies, Panic Attack by Dream Theater or even I Want You (She's So Heavy) by The Beatles
Here to Stay and Right Now by Korn for me.
I'd have picked Prayer Position over Absolomb, but this is otherwise super solid.
or MAKE TOTAL DESTROY
Jinjer has a lot of sick bass riffs. Definitely worth taking a look at. 1:30 into the song Vortex is one of my favorites
Love Mr. Kohle's new bass IR pack. Using it myself for a mix right now.
Baena playing Bass??? Let's goooo
in case you're going to make a pt.2, I highly suggest "Judgement and Punishment" by Jinjer and "New Faces in the Dark" by Loathe
Mastermind from Megadeth probably has one of my favorite basslines. Cliff burton may of inspired me to play bass but Ellefson is certainly the reason I still play.
Sick dude, it‘s crazy how much you‘ve improved since you first got that swirled Dingwall despite bass not being your main instrument.
As a fellow player loving the video, just some helpful advice: when slapping da bass, when slapping try and make contact with the neck with your thumb. So you'd be slapping over the last fret of the fretboard, you get that punchy, slapback tone easier. Hope that helps! :)
Kublai Khan?! Wow, Andrew listens beatdown hardcore!!!
did you really just cut the best part of hammer smashed face?
Nice list. And even some slap! Wasn't expecting that!
I don't even play an instrument, i just watch for the Heavy Chuck Riffing.💀🤘
Tech Death ain't something you can just EXPECT someone to play 😂😂😂 Nobody got no right to force you to play it even if it's great!
And side note, I think Ball Tongue would've been the BEST pick for Korn, the bass in that song is great.
You gotta have massive, ginormous balls to even try playing Necrophagist on bass 😂
I really want one of these basses
Lots of heavy bass lines to choose from but the first one that comes to mind when I think of heavy bass 'riffs' is Karnivool's song "Goliath".
great list but i feel like the mix isn’t very cutting, i think it would have been ideal if there was more treble in the track especially on dig and fwtbt
the 2 things i noticed were that schism felt off but i havent heard it in awhile, and absolombs guitar part was missing a part, but i know the focus is on the bass anyways
Yeah, would’ve really liked to hear the bass more.
Rex Brown has some of the most crushing bass lines ive ever heard in Metal becoming is heavy and hard af to play with fingers
My favourite bass riff has to be Primus's Tommy The Cat, but that is an extremely hard riff to play so I don't blame you for not including it 🤣🤣🤣
All of primus basslines are hard to play lol
@f-100subersabre6 Yeah that's true actually 🤣🤣🤣
You can't do the intro to Dig and then cockblock us as soon as it's about to drop man! 😭
Yeah definitely left out the best part there.
Ps the Hammer Smashed Face bass riff is legendary
I was truly specting to hear Crooked by Dealer
"Simple Boy" by Karnivool. IMHO what we know as a 'modern' bass tone started with that bassline.
By far and away, my current favorite bassline is Drift by ERRA.
My favourite bass riffs as of late would not have been in this video ever as they're either darkwave or post punk. If you want to check to check it out the bassline in the song Shadows by Twin Tribes is a good one. Great band/duo from Texas
Those damn blue collared tweakers. Heaviest bass riff I can think of
Dig by Mudvayne is one of the best bass intros of all time
I know they don’t really fit the typical genres of the channel but I gotta shout out DFA1979 for being the first band that left me going “wait, that’s a BASS?!”
Also Canadian so automatically better
Every time I hear a Dingwall it sounds slightly distorted but I don't know if your using a distortion effect and I could never get a good distortion tone on my basses mainly my six string bass
gotts do another one with anything from Varials, their bass riffs are THICC
Kublai Khan - just knew it had to be in there!
Lowest open string? Below F#0? Tool was favorite !
as a trans male who plays bass I adore that shirt!!
what gauge strings did you use on the 4 string?
"Dig" sounds good even now😮
A 100% no shit recommendation for you
Nekrogoblikon - Powercore (the little bass solo @ 2: 10) sooo good
What, no "Darko - Praise the Sun"? (Even though I clearly commented "Knocked Loose" via Threads)
Oblivions Peak - Knocked Loose 😢
part 2 needs to include vortex or pisces by jinjer
Self destruct is my favourite
My favorite bass riff that isn't tech death has to be hammer smashed face
Рифаки супер, жаль бас не слышно
4:05 the first time I’ve seen this man do fingerstyle (I mean it’s Korn so)
Having 2 Nolly signatures and uses d-roc for the only Periphery riff 😆
Seeing some gojira on this was a pleasant surprise
Dängle, Dängle Deluxe! 🤩
why no ajfa?
very cool 👍👍👍👍
Bros got that 6milly lip cuchy bro
I argue Damageplan- Crawl would've been the heaviest bass riff had I made it in time lol
Surprised that harm didn’t show up lol.
man never heard "The Finest Day" by Monolithian
Could have added some ATB i think
Kohle is the man!
🤘🤘🤘
Vacuity is so underrated
How bout some knocked loose, they got nice bass riffs
just started this video and i stg if Monuments isnt on this list.....
update: No Monuments
Sick shirt ! 🥰
Absolomb!
Thumbs up for Vacuity
Wall of brbr ding
Epico
Necrophaghist ❤
AWESOME SHIRT!!!! Tons of love from the transfem community 😁😁
Cannibal corpse 🤘🏽🤘🏽
I've been playing for almost three years and the intro for Only Ash Remains is nothing bro
I hope there'll be Necr... nevermind. :)
Is that a t-shirt or a T-shirt? :v
So there was no Carcosa on this......
Can barely hear the base
i need ask this, the shirt what are you using in the video, has a trans pride flag? (im tras btw)
It is! It’s from a band called The Hallowed Catharsis
@@BaenaCarcosa Thx so much!! I will give them a listen
Why don't you just play an 8 string guitar?
Bro had to pull that
Hey now, if you want to get that true tech-death bassist sound, you've got to set your bass tone to emulate a fretless bass, and then de-quantize it a bit to emulate the fact that even the professionals in tech-death aren't hit every single note perfectly and reliably on time for some of the harder parts.
Cool ideia. Did not like the mixing and tones tho. Nice playing, nevertheless. Cheers.
