Sylosis is so underrated, riffs for fucking days. Such a sick band.
A sign of things to come is one of my favorite albums of all time.
Their older stuff is neat, newer stuff is generic and sounds like just about any other metal band
Sylosis is hands down the lord of standard E Riffs
The Helix Nebula, STILL the HEAVIEST in normal 6 string Drop D!
FK double Drop D!
I haven't watched the video yet but I was gonna say, Sylosis or we riot.
Putting the fall of Troy and Dillinger escape plan right next to each other was diabolical lmao
Putting Sylosis on this list was mandatory. Respect.
he could have filled the whole list with Sylosis and it would still be valid
Dude I know you likely won’t see this, but you’re part of the entire reason I started playing and why I bought my 7 string, so thank you so much Andrew baena I’ve been watching since 2019
Thanks so much for saying that!
Same here but i started playing 8 and 9 string because of Andrew
@@maciekt3499 Same here! Without you i would not have own my fist 8 string guitar yet. Thanks so much to Andrew Baena and those other djenty boys out there letting us know about that awesome instrument😁
Always a pleasure to do a HEAVIEST R II II II II F S with Ab... in E std? Yes in E std. 😎👍 any tuning, any time, any place, let's go! Great sounding drums RS!
👏👏👏
1:28 Metallica - For Whom the Bell Tolls
1:48 Sylosis - Empyreal
2:16 The Dillinger Escape Plan - 43% Burnt
2:38 The Fall of Troy - ECPREMIX
3:02 Trivium - Ignition
3:20 Opeth - The Master's Apprentice
3:42 Deftones - Engine No.9
4:08 Dream Theater - Pull Me Under
4:26 Winds of Plague - Decimate the Weak
4:44 Pantera - Domination (Breakdown part)
Hero without the cape🫡
🤡👌🏻@@dimejoe2621
A very based selection
Empyreal is fucking great!
Opeth is of course mandatory for this list although Heir Apparent might be heavier
Love Sylosis and Opeth. Master’s apprentices is one of my favorite e standard riffs. Never gets old
That Opeth riff hits different
Better be Master's Apprentices
HELL YEAAAHHH
Should have been Heir Apparent IMO. That might be the heaviest thing every written in E standard
The Fall of Troy was a solid pick. Well done!
I got so excited as soon as I saw Master's Apprentices, I was hoping so much that it would be on here, being probably my fav E standard song
LOVE seeing The Dillinger Escape Plan get some love!
I'm so happy to see Empyreal in there man, such a heavy song for E standard.
The secret is that standard tuning already has a power chord on the bottom two strings and it sounds as heavy as a seven string
Inverted power chords are amazing. Well aplied sounds so massive.
You can make 6 string guitar sound even more massive when you put a five string bass on the root notes in the lower octave. I know Periphery does that on their drop C songs occasionally, and I’m not as familiar with Sylosis but I think they do as well
In Standard, the diad of lowest two strings is an inverted power chord
@@na7h4n34 It's now industry standard to add sub frequencies to everything they fucking shouldn't lol
Won't be long til you hear cymbals sound like earthquakes.
I immediately thought of Master’s Apprentices so many great riffs. I really like the part at 2:24 in the song.
I love that first riff in 43% burnt so much, it just hits so hard and doesn't overstay its welcome.
Yep, but by the time it comes back at the end, it seems like a relief because the rest of the song is so crazy.
Said it once I'll say it again, heavy is a style of playing rather than a tuning
Serenity painted death - opeth (main riff at 1:25)
Also, love that fall of troy made it in there!
E standard is making a comeback and I am here for it
SYLOSIS MENTIONED 🗣🗣🗣
The heaviest riff in E Standard is probably Servitute by Sylosis
So fucking real
I remember at their comeback show they played Servitude in D standard, sounded so good!!
I pretty much started in drop c learning SOAD riffs, too 😂 never kept a guitar in e standard, ever.
a man of culture
I did the same thing, I learned over half of them before moving on
DEP being in E standard always blows my mind
The intro to glassgow kiss will always be my favorite E Standard riff and my go to warm up lick.
That guitar sounds amazing! great job!
You put the "Bae" in Baena 💛Fantastic video as usual :)
Cool list! Here’s some of my favorite heavy E standard riffs-
Slayer- Black Magic
Mayhem- Buried by Time and Dust
Celtic Frost- The Usurper
Sepultura- Dead Embryonic Stem Cells
I’ll also mention some E standard riffs from bands that don’t cleanly fall under the “metal” label but are still very heavy nonetheless
Black Flag- Nothing Inside
Nirvana- scoff
Discharge- meanwhile ( honestly you could make a good argument that this one falls under the metal category)
I would assume that anything by Slayer and Sepultura are almost definitely in Eb standard, not E standard. Not much of a difference but still
Black magic was off of the album show no mercy, which was in e standard
@@havenless3551Sepultura was E standard all the way up through Arise and Slayer was in E standard but only on the first album.
It always surprises most my metal friends when I tell them my favorite standard tuning riff of all time. KMFDM's "Light" - That riff still makes me kick my own ass every time. The whole track, not just the main riff.
Subscribed immediately. Then rang that bell.
Love this E Standard homage!
I mainly play E Standard.
Opeth's Heir Apparent is probably the heaviest E standard I've ever heard.
Broken One - Trivium, one of my favourite E standard songs of all time
Fancy seeing you here
@@thepresidentslabnow wait a minute 😉
Hold on a second, now... Don't I know you two from somewhere?
@@mikerodz204insert pictures of spiderman pointing at spiderman here

Holy haha! Wasent expecting that Fall of Troy riff at all! One the most underrated bands of all time!
And the breakdown on that song…Uff. Talk about heavy but groovy.
Andy Gillion wrote some great E standard songs in Mors Principium Est and on his most recent solo album
Everything he touches IMO, is great.
Opeth is crazy! I couldn't believe it when I found out that Heir Apparent was in E Standard. Absolutely amazing
I Hope bands start using half step down and E standard again. Some of the heaviest riffs aren’t lower than Drop D. I used to be obsessed with low tunings but now that everything sounds like low sludge I love listening to the great crunch of E srandard and half step down. Honestly anything lower than A standard or drop G is just ridiculous. Only for an effect but not for an actual riff. Ask any kid what song sounds heavier and they don’t know anything about tuning, they’d say Most death metal is heavier and crunchier because of that crunch of not tuning too low. 8 string and 9 string sound cool but don’t have that punch of something in Drop B or higher. And even Drop B loses a lot of the crunch unless you EQ the hell out of it. Having been in exclusively in Drop Ab and Drop B I can firmly say. Eb and E standard ftw.
Didn't know Baena owned a tuner that could reach E Standard, or a 6 string hahahahaha
Dimmu Borgir has a decent amount of badass riffs in E!
Just goes to show that the only thing that matters is tone. Incredible.
That guitar is sick! I have the headless one. Love it
Started learning Nirvana and progressively tuned lower and lower to Korn and Limp Bizkit, thanks for repping the E standard Baena!!
Soul Sacrifice by Power Trip is sorely missed 😪
5:19 the Eric cameo let’s go!
Calculating infinity is so rad!
This video blew my mind - I had not idea DEP, FoT, and WoP used E Standard
Making domination the final riff was smart. Love this list. Crazy how heavy you can make E standard sound 🤘🤘
Tell me you have too many guitars without telling me that you have too many guitars
Andrew: "I guess I have to find the guitar in E standard"
im ngl one of my favorite e standard riffs is the riff that comes in after the harmonized intro in dont tread on me. that triplet feel goes nuts
any list with has my approval
Great video Nik- I mean Andrew!!! 🖤🖤🖤
Love to see the colabs with @EricMorettin! Certified shredder, keep the content coming boys.
cant have a heaviest E standard riffs video without Heir Apparent by Opeth
So glad to have seen Opeth and Deftones on here. I was astonished that Adrenaline was recorded in E standard when I first learned how to play Engine No. 9. Great playing as always 🤘🔥
Time to do “10 more heaviest riffs” in every tuning, all over again??? Because that would be fuckin sick, no joke. These vids are entertaining asf
Huge inspiration to all guitar players out there big dawg! Bought an 8 just to learn Carcosa💪
It might not be considered heavy but one of the most catchy riffs in E Standard I've ever heard is the main roff in Do You Call My Name by Ra it's such a ear worm
I LOVE E standard!!! some of my favourites include:
Accept
(Ok I'll try to narrow it down):
Bucket Full Of Hate
Breaker
Sucks To Be You
This One's For You
Flash To Bang Time
Final Journey
Too Mean To Die
Wrong Is Right
Balls To The Wall
Fast As A Shark
Bloodbath Mastermind
I Don't Wanna Be Like You
Stampede
Southside Of Hell
Some not Accept:
Artillery - Beneath The Clay (R.I.P)
Artillery - Life In Bondage
Pestilence - Chemotherapy
Megadeth - Take No Prisoners
Megadeth - This Day We Fight!
Judas Priest - Painkiller
Judas Priest - Night Crawler
Scanner - Conception Of A Cure
Scanner - 20th Century Crusade
Scanner - F.T.B.
Primal Fear - Chainbreaker
Tantara - Human Mutation
King Diamond - From The Other Side
Pretty Maids - Back To Back
Pretty Maids - Future World
Not sure if it counts as heavy but the intro of "Thank you for the Venom" of MCR is really good
Opeth rules!
Btw, I think maybe an early Sepultura song could have featured as well.
that's what learning drop c tuning leads to, picking up a guitar in e standard, it turned out that the live notes came out of the chat
I love the Psycho Frame Gundam shirt man lol, honestly that band needs way more attention than they are getting.
Sylosis has entered the chat
Sylosis - Servitude
DUDE FINISH THE DOMINATION ENDING!!😤
Some of these go really hard even for today's standards and this goes to show that it's always the riff itself that makes it sound heavy, not the low tuning per se
Opening with For Whom The Bell Tolls already makes this a winner. Having Empyreal and Domination seals the deal.
oh shit you actually included a trivium riff in this video, my bad LETS GOOO
Domination is heavy.
I find "Slaughtered" by Pantera to be very heavy for Standard E as well.
This rules! Thanks so much Andrew! \m/
💚💚💚
Always know Sylosis will be on the list for sure!
I'm surprised you didn't do the verse riff from " Like Callisto to a star in heaven" by Trivium but ignition is good too!😊
Pull Me Under could have been on there 3 separate times, definitely deserved to be here.
Also, it seems you learned from the Drop D video to keep a single guitar around E Standard.
Pull me under is perfect for this list, but it hits way harder if you down pick it instead of alternate picking
I was going to say, sylosis had to be there, glad to see it 2nd 🤘
Obituary - Slowly We Rot. Death metal in E standard is wild
The madlad finally did it
He has a “normal” guitar now
Domination!!! I was going to say you should have borrowed one of Eric's Dimebag guitars and then he showed up lol
The intro of fugue by trivium has one of my favorites e standard riffs. It's not the heaviest, but the whole "thrash metal meets metalcore" thing is amazing
Missed Coheed & cambria - Welcome Home
Demon of the falllllll by Opeth bro goes so hard. All of it. And the Leper Affinity duuuude😭
Demon of the fall is in drop D
This was sick. I forgot all about the fall of troy. The only thing it was missing was the final part of down from 311.
Oh, even has a hint of the Line6 Spider II Insane Mode tone in it
+1 for putting the masters apprentice in there, deliverance is my favorite opeth album
Lacks some good ol' Dimmu Borgir. Blessings Upon the Throne of Tyranny would fit perfectly.
Also funny how you and @jojoplaysmusic both released "heaviest E standard riffs" essentially at the same time
We've been talking to each other about it for weeks lol we were racing to see who would finish first
That winds of plague came outa knowhere lol good picks though! 🤘😎
The to live is to die riff is pretty heavy sounding
Insomnium - white Christ. Oh my giddy aunt, what a tune. And in standard tuning too
So happy that The Fall of Troy gets their flowers every now and then from musicians
Holy shit the mad lad actually did it
A heavy E standard riff that is not in a metal song but certainly is a metal riff is in the second half of the song "Right time of Night" by Urban Heat (post-punk/darkwave band)
Empyreal is SUCH an underrated banger man
I knew when I saw The Dillinger Escape Plan, it will be 43% Burnt - since this is the first riff which always comes up in my mind when I see their name.
Engine No. 9 is so fucking sick
Cool riffs!
Sylosis must have to this list.
I love so much tracks Sylosis - Teras, and Sylosis - After Lifeless Years.
If u would make video E Standard Heaviest Guitar Riffs part 2, add these tracks plz.
Engine no. 9 riff is underrated
needs a part 2 asap
i haven't watched the whole video yet but i really hope strength beyond strength is there
FCPREMIX by Fall Of Troy riff is so dang good. I remember hearing it on Guitar Hero for the first time and was blown away lol
Rushed in here to make sure Dillinger was represented and was made proud. Id personally argue the bridge riff from Phone Home is heavier than 43% burnt, but the important thing is DEP was mentioned.
Trivium - Like Callisto To A Star In Heaven
that one goes so hard. constant down picking at 226bpm. i can barely do it at 210 but it´s so much fun to play.
Something I've always found pretty neat about the higher tunings is how with the right dissonance, E-standard can sound like drop A.
I think the best example is the breakdown in Flying whales, being D standard but for the longest time I thought that part was played with 7 strings.
Because you have bass underneath it I guess
Gotta do D standard heaviest riffs now
Damn dude I wish you hit the second part of the breakdown aka breakdown 2....ah well. All classics. That Sylosis riff was THICC.
Maximum the Hormone has awesome riffs in E standard.
