For families crossing the bridge, especially if you were very close to the track and bungee drop,, it was definitely being at the right place at the right time.
This video motivated me to check out the New River Gorge Bridge for the first time, last weekend, over in West Virginia. It's quite a spectacle and worth the visit.
I had the Texas/Texas Tech 1993 football game recorded, and it included this commercial. It was the same save for the ending - the announcer said: "The GMC Jimmy - drop in for a test drive".
@TDRIVE80 it's a '91 through '94 T15 Jimmy. judging by the chrome strip around the bumper caps & side molding, i'd say a '91 or '92 ('93 & '94' had "gold" chrome)
My grandma's nece was on the raft when it was dropped. My great grandma was also one of the first people to cross the bridge and got a certificate from the governor.
They were demonstrating the strength of the vehicle's frame. Humans weigh 150lbs vehicles weigh thousands of pounds and gain intense momentum with each second of free falling.
Ford's are all we use as work trucks, much tougher than a GM product, although the Chevys ride a lot smoother and can outrun them. They are all 1 ton pickups including the chevy, but, it isn't used as a work truck. GM's and Dodge's can't hold a candle to a Ford as far as work load.
I live 1/2 mile from the bridge. They shut down 19N for a day or two to shoot this. Ford was the work horse behind this commercial. GM got dropped off the bridge, but all the trucks on the bridge making it happen were mostly (if not all) Fords.
Filmed in the Great State of West Virginia! At the New River Gorge Bridge. Awesome commercial and awesome place!
No worst state
Awesome! I was there for that drop...

This ad is great. Awesome visuals actually related to the strength of the truck for towing.
They showed the making of this commercial on a show called "How Did They Do That" with Pat O'brien. Very Interesting!
I love this state!!!!!!!
wow. Can you imagine riding inside, that would be awesome.
Freakin A! That is a mean ass bungee cord! Like rock.
Very strong!
thats a great advertisement for that rope haha
That was my thought

My Great Uncle built this bungee rig
I used to have the VHS of the behind the scenes of this commercial
Puts those Tundra commercials to shame!
I like the original bridge below better 😁
The DP was Jeffrey Kimball. I think he'd finished True Romance around the time of this ad.
Lol, after the commercial...they should'v just it loose and made a crash test video. haha
hell, if i knew my trucks frame was that stron i woulda towed heavier stuff with it
the truck was striped when that ad was filmed. but its still cool you dont see truck bungee jump from bridges.
Now do it with the Terrain today and see what happens.
Nice 👍🏾
I know a guy who's engineering company worked on this commercial
yes it does.
@TheFreakyfixed87 not really.
How'd they get it back up/down?
I live next to this ultimate bridge
@dstrong1337 ford hung it from the box to advertise their fancy mounting bolts
if that was a amusement ride I'd shit myself.....
Now, PUT PEOPLE INSIDE IT!
now lets do it with an F35. lets have an F35B operate from the bridge.
Ok, now leave it hang there and then call the finance company!
hey! i have one of those! the truck that is. I love my jimmy. i have a vid of it on my youtube account. :-D
I shot this spot with David Butler and Rod Davis
did the truck/bungee jump seem legit?
New River Gorge Bridge
how the hell did they get it down....

well tundra weighs like 3 times that little thing haha
Well considering people manage to do this all the time, and that a truck is MUCH stronger than the human body. Could'nt any truck do this?
@gooziddaiejoon Uhhh yea it did........ ill be willing do donate money for you some contacts.....
they should of let it just drop
The 10 at the end must have to do with your age.
Can I ride in it?
Didnt ford copy this a little while ago and hang there f150s by their frames?
@Hond400ex woulda been way cooler
They removed the seats, engine and transmission for that little stunt. Not that impressive when you know how they do it.
I dout it had the motor in it that motor wood have flow out the front of it because of the junk mounts being rubber an glue holding it in lol
@DirtbikeGuy2009 do humans way tons no
I came here to see this video thanks to a 1993 Popular Mechanics article.
